ESPN the Magazine to shut down

the demise of magazines and newspapers just continues for poorly done website display of information..

The magazine was a great work around for ESPN Insider access. You could buy a cheap yearly subscription to the magazine (I found it for as little as $4.50 a year) and get free Insider access ( i think it was 40-50 a year). I pre-bought 3 years a year ago and then they shifted everything to ESPN+ and canceled insider. My poor dad is going to be sad to see the subscription i forward to him canceled. I hope I get my money back!

Exactly what I've done for about a decade. Pretty sure that I have ESPN+ until sometime in 2021 because of it.

Trying to cancel my subscription was the circle of hell. They kept passing me to other lines and operators. Finally I told them in a nasty tone that I did not want to be transferred again and demanded that my subscription was cancelled. It took over an hour I am not kidding. In hindsight, I now realize it was because they did not have enough subscribers. Like a stooge, I kept it because of insider access but it felt so dumb to have a magazine that I never read arrive in my mailbox all the time.

I am sorry for the writers and the older people who are more comfortable getting their info from the printed page instead of on line. The day is coming when even Sports Illustrated will stop publishing hard copy issues.

The era of hard copy newspapers and magazines was great. I miss it a lot already. The times, they are a changing.

That's sad about SI. Our family has been a subscriber since it first started beginning with my grandpa. They've had to reinvent themselves since you can get on-demand game stories and recaps by telling stories from different angles. But they still have a lot of interesting stories. Except for hockey stories, I find myself reading almost all of each issue.

websites as news media is bad.. at least kindle is still a book without the paper.

its funny that newspaper lived for 200 yrs making money and now they go digital and most sites that killed the newspaper cant survive

I'm generally so busy that digital is just far more convenient for me. However, when I'm on vacation or on a quiet Sunday morning (rare), I truly appreciate a real newspaper and magazines. I like hard copy and digital books on my Kindle.

I actually like ESPN the mag. I don’t read it cover to cover but I do read selected articles that interest me. I must be weird. Lol.
That's what people used to say about Playboy: "I just read the articles." roflmao ;)

Thank God. They made me take it for free with my ESPN Insider account.

I actually cancelled my Insider account because they wouldn't stop sending the magazine.
