Estime's TD

FWIW, Whugham ran down #6 on the tunnel screen that looked like 6. They scored anyway, but I loved the hustle. Kids get caught a lot.
goofy question, how much does the carrying the ball slow someone down?

maybe a tenth of second or 2 on the 40. Wouldnt call it huge, but prob something.

I also wonder if looking over his shoulder slowed him down a tenth or two.

I used to hate it when Andre Reed did that for the Bills. Probably cost him a bunch of yards out of his hall of fame stats.

Over 89 yards that probably adds up to five yards difference between two guys who are the same speed without the ball. Wild guess

He didn't get "caught" by the DE. He couldn't make it around the guy. I was disappointed in real time, but when I saw the replay, he would have had to run out of bounds to get around the guy. There is a big difference between getting caught and not being able to go around someone who had too much penetration. The DE made a good play. It's as simple as that.

But, if you want to make the argument that our fastest players are slower than the DEs on Wake, I guess I can't stop you.:noidea:
Yeah,I ignored that comment

lonnie johnson against the packers (?) stared over his shoulder for 15 yards and forgot about the safety who absolutely blew him up

lonnie wasn't smart before that hit, i'm sure that hit left him even less so permanently (not kidding)

it also shows that our fastest WR was almost caught by a wake db and he had a 5-7 yd lead.

This from the guy who is the King of "if only these 4 plays went differently we would have won by 28 instead of losing by 17" posts.

Good gravy.

But he didn't catch him. That's the difference between Estime's wheels versus some of the other WRs we've had in recent years--that play becomes a touchdown instead of getting caught from behind at the 20. He also made a smart "cut" at the very end to take away the DBs angle.

But no question--that WF defensive back [#25] was FAST.
That was my thought. As I watched 25 close in, I said to myself (since no one else was listening), "Pay attention, change your direction." And, sure enough, he made a quick cut to change the angle and VOILA! six points.

anyone complaining about someone simply pointing out the the brisley bear got out run is crazy. The wake defender was simply faster on that play.

And it was a straight line run until the end. If the brisley bear didnt cut back to the right at the end, he may have been tripped up similar to running from an actual bear, must run in criss crosses. Our Brisley bear took the perfect angle that required the longest distance for the wake guy to make up (which the wake guy was certainly making up distance) and then took it back to the right because he knew the wake guy couldnt react at full speed.

Its not an insult to say Brisley almost got run down. Its not like Brisley was at full speed when he caught the ball anyway. It was an awkward play. and he scored.
If you are running from an actual bear, game over. A few days ago I walked down my front steps to the street and a bear charged full tilt down the middle of the street from a block away. He was fast, and they have a low center of gravity. They clock at 30 mph, about twice as fast as a human.

Come on people! How much farther do you need him to outlast the fastest guy on the field? How many 90 yard TDs do you expect on the season? This thread has taken a ridiculous turn. I think some people on here would find something to criticize if we won the NC.

"Now all our best guys are going to leave for the NFL" :(

Wow. Talk about a hijacked thread.

I actually thought the 2nd TD pass to Ishmael showed us why he will be very good. Unless you are an athletic QB, with a nice arm with touch, you aren't making those throws. He couldn't have made 2 better TD passes that showed off his immense potential.

With all that said I take back what I said about moving Womack so quickly. I now can see it was much more about what Dungey can do, and they probably realized that Womack would never have beaten him out.

we have a whole conversation about why we play soft corner, and here is one about our fastest player almost getting caught. he also got caught on jet sweep in the 1st quarter by a DE. BE is fast, and fast enough for most plays. we play soft corner because our Dbs are slower than the other teams WR. teams play press on our WR and play physical too.
What a ridiculous post. I think some of you must just enjoy misery. Finding fault in a 90 yard touchdown play is simply ludicrous. Our DBS are not slow.

it had nothing to do with finding fault. most people here are oblivious of what goes on in a game. it was an observation that 2 years in a row we had big plays with solid leads and Wake DB's almost caught both of them. not sure if it was the same Wake guy though.

Haha. "Oblivious" is posting how Estime was almost caught (except that he wasn't) on an 89 yard TD on a 100 yard field as the first reply in a thread about what a great throw Dungey made and not recognizing how that could be construed as negativity. I like that you are trying to back-track some by blaming the ignorance of the board.

you missed the point. the issue is team speed. we lack team speed, that what people are claiming is our fastest guy was almost caught by a DB is just an indicator of how much more speed we need to get and it needs to be multiple guys. the wake WR ran by our DBs all day and he was a low level transfer from uSC. when we were at our peak and had guys like the missile/dar dar we ran by other teams like that. when we get back to that we will be able to compete again.

he wasnt caught because he busted his butt to finish off the run,

He wasn't...number 25 was definitely catching him but, as Milly said, it doesn't matter he scored on an 89 pass play.

I think BE's speed is more suited over forty yards rather than 100.

Later in game 25 is after Ishmael on his TD reception, and never gets even close. Does this mean Ish is faster than Bris? No it simply means 25 gave everything he had to try and catch Bris with nothing in the tank to pursue Ish. You can not treat football speed like its a 40 or 100 yard dash too many other variables that effect speed(fatigue, situation, angles) at any given time in a game.
Bris is plenty fast.
