Estime's TD

Yeah, I'm not nitpicking and I'm not commenting on Estime's speed.
I've watched the game a couple times and I've seen the highlights about ten times. I noticed that it looks like the WF CB probably could have tripped him up and possibly prevented a TD if he dived.
If you disagree with that observation, that's fine.

coulda, woulda, shouda, but didn't.

If you are running from an actual bear, game over. A few days ago I walked down my front steps to the street and a bear charged full tilt down the middle of the street from a block away. He was fast, and they have a low center of gravity. They clock at 30 mph, about twice as fast as a human.

yes but did you score a TD?

It is now starting to feel like this is Syracuse.com Football Forum. I don't post on there anymore for a reason. Two many Negative Nancys. Lets all be happy he scored and we beat an ACC team. Remember that, we won.

you missed the point. the issue is team speed. we lack team speed, that what people are claiming is our fastest guy was almost caught by a DB is just an indicator of how much more speed we need to get and it needs to be multiple guys. the wake WR ran by our DBs all day and he was a low level transfer from uSC. when we were at our peak and had guys like the missile/dar dar we ran by other teams like that. when we get back to that we will be able to compete again.

he wasnt caught because he busted his butt to finish off the run,

You do know he actually ran a lot further than the guy who was chasing him right? The route alone covered at least 50 yards of field. You should try to break the play down a little more than just what you saw when number 25 started digging to chase him down. A lot of running occurred before that. Estime's touchdown registered as a 89 yarder but the fact of the matter is he ran about 115-120 yards on that play. and he covered all those yards in about 13 seconds.

I think people confuse quickness for straight line speed as well. In addition, I think receivers such as Ishmael are faster than many give credit for, guys like Phillips and Estime aren't as fast straight line as many would like to believe, quick and very shifty for sure, fast for sure but clearly the Wake guy was faster on that play It's a not a huge deal.

outside of SU where so many of our DBs run weird, cornerbacks can run down just about anyone. that's why they're cornerbacks.

yes and this is why Estime struggles to get open on deep balls. he cant just run by guys and he does not run his routes very well. even his long td he just floated along, i think he knew he was not the first/second option, when Dungey came back towards the middle he realized he was back in play and made a nice move back towards the ball. he tries to use speed in his routes and really needs to use his quickness more on the breaks to create the separation.

Agreed, but the receivers will now realize that at any time they can get the ball because Dungey is back there creating a play. A QB that can move and buy some time makes everyone look better.

Like I said, I don't think we have any true burners with straight up track type speed on this offense. It's a not a huge deal because they don't always make the best receivers, sure they are good for the occasional straight go route. Mike Williams wasn't one of those guys either, Lemon and Sales were not either, just savy football players who knew their spots

Wish we had Mo Jackson - he was fast and could get open. And was probably shorter than Estime.

I think true track speed is rare. The kid from NYC was straight line fats but wasn't a very good receiver.

1) He didn't get caught
2) It was an 89 yard play on a 100 yard field
3) Are people really complaining that, sure, Estime scored on a nearly 90 yard play, but he didn't score it quite fast enough for their liking?

I don't remember Jermaine Stafford but I remember David Byrd, I think he wound up in camp with the Bills, right? Played DB...supposedly 4.3 range speed.

Byrd will always be remembered for Sadie's Place... also a pick vs. Tom Brady.

Jeremiah Kobena from NYC may be the other one?

Estime's game speed seems to be somewhere on the spectrum between Jamel Riddle and Moe Jackson. What he does exceptionally well is change direction without much reduction of speed; something long striders like Jim Turner can't do. Riddle was similar.

Yes. Who was the safety we had that chased down the wr from USF a few years back, drafted by Tampa and failed a bunch of drug tests? That kid could fly

Tanard Jackson

The kid chasing Bris supposedly runs a 4.4. Not many players are going to catch him from behind he is plenty fast enough and quick as a bug

Who gives a ? It's gone.

it also shows that our fastest WR was almost caught by a wake db and he had a 5-7 yd lead.

can we please stop complaining about the speed of guys who score on 89 yard plays

Well UD I think this^ means you are way off base. Wake's DBs are some of the fastest guys on their team and they are also an ACC team. Everyone runs slower as the ball carrier.
