European Football Summer Transfer Window

I'd argue Portugal is the best feeder country due to work permit ease there vs the rest of Europe.

Italy is an odd country in that it is still all feudal states that largely dislike one another. Aside from World Cup and F1 with Ferrari Italians aren't Italian, they are Sicilian, Napolitano, Milanese, Roman, etc

Belgium, too. They have visas for former colonies in central Africa.
Portugal is a great entree culturally to Europe for young Brazilians.

Those 3 countries (Portugal, Belgium and France) are where Chelsea's ownership eventually wants to buy clubs. They have Strasbourg so far.

Luis Diaz to Bayern. Seems lfc will make another run at Isak

I'm hearing that they are looking for another LW, maybe even Rodrygo of Real Madrid. Malick Fofana of Lyon is also an option.

I expect Nunez to be sold next. Curtis Jones, too. That could be 60-80M between them, to go with the 75M they just got from Bayern Munich for Diaz.

They'll keep Gakpo, but they are looking for another winger too. I guess they figure, "we haven't spent money in years, let's go for it this year".

One writer said, they see this as their opportunity to set up their attack for the next 5+ years, after Salah moves on.

I know he had good stats and I admittedly don’t watch LFC consistently but I thought Diaz was slop. Thrived in dysfunctional situations but was overall poor. Great for EPL fantasy but wouldn’t want him on my squad. That’s a huge win with that fee for LFC.

Hard to parse between actual intel and players agents simply trying to drum up interest in their players. LFCs more trusted sources haven't even mentioned Rodrygo, rumor has it we've been in contact for Fofana but that was also before we signed Ekitike. Maybe we want both but Gakpo and Ekitike both play the LW well.

I think the goal is to turn Diaz and Nunez money into Isak. Can't see Cujo going anywhere anytime soon. He's Scouse, boyhood fan and not sure what "better" options are currently there for him vs return. Also cannot see us leaving homegrown players leave at this point, we're already one short which means we'll only have 24 man senior squad vs 25.

Will just say I disagree with your assessment of Diaz. Fast, good in the box, tracks back to defend... just don't think we properly utilized him and he only got about half the touches he should have because everything channeled down the right with Trent and Mo for us.

He will be missed at Liverpool for sure but decent money for him and at 28 he's now effectively been replaced with a 23 year old

Yes, I think Gakpo and Ekitike can both play from the left, and if they buy Isak, they are going to have to, most of the time. So, if they get Isak, I agree that Rodrygo makes no sense. There's only so much money.

I agree. Thriving in a chaotic environment was kind of the essence of the original Klopp Gegen Press. He toned that down over time, and so has slot, even moreso. Diaz and Jota (and Salah) are all very effective when defenses can be disrupted.

Even without Isak or Rodrygo, not sure another left sided player makes sense. LFC are currently 2+ deep aside from the 4 and 9. Only buys now are wants, there's no pressing needs barring injury. We've also got Rio Ngumoha coming through as an attacker. Think CB is the need and pure 9 is the want

Latest transfer news:

Newcastle signs Aaron Ramsdale from Southampton on loan with an option to buy. Competition for Nick Pope, who has had some injuries the last couple years.

Chelsea sale of Joao Felix to Al Nassr is finalized. 30M up front, 20M more in add ons. Chelsea getting close on Ajax 19 year old defender Jorrel Hato. He is essential for their squad depth.

Manchester United want either Ollie Watkins of Aston Villa, or Benjamin Sesko of Leipzig, as their next number 9, with so many guys already signed. They won't have the money for Sesko - Leipzig will want 80-90M, and Sesko wants an "elite" football club. United can't even offer him European football, so I just don't see it. They may come up empty.

Newcastle's window seems to be falling apart. They got Elanga, but they have missed on about half a dozen targets, and now Alexander Isak seems determined to force his way out, even though they offer him Champions League football this year. They may crash down to 10-15th this season with the extra demands of Europe and the lack of squad depth to deal with it.

Chelsea close on LW / AM Xavi Simons, a Netherlands International, but Leipzig still holding out for 70M, while Chelsea has offered 60M.

Chelsea took a flyer on Morgan Rogers and made a bid to Villa, since the fee for Simons is getting out of hand, and Rogers is already proven in the Premier League. Aston Villa just offered him an improved contract to try to keep him.

Luka Jovic, the 27 year old Serbian striker who previously played for Milan and Real Madrid, is a free agent looking to catch on with a newly promoted side in La Liga, Real Orvieto. I remember when he was a huge prospect just 2 or 3 years ago.

Man City snatched back GK James Trafford, who they sold to Burnley a couple years ago. Newcastle had offered 27M for him, and City swooped in and exercised a buy-back clause from their agreement. Newcastle left at the altar yet again this summer.

United has interest in Emi Martinez of Aston Villa for GK. Martinez is looking for a pay raise on the 225K/week that he's currently making. I don't think United can afford that kind of salary plus a 30M transfer fee.

Newcastle still hoping to get Yoane Wissa as Callum Wilson's replacement, but can't seem to pull the trigger on a 30M deal for the striker. Yes, he's 27, but he scored a dozen goals last year. They say they will use the Isak money to buy Sesko. Maybe, but maybe not.

As I previously said, a lot of their failure in the market this summer seems self-inflicted, like they can't make up their mind, are always shopping for a deal, and are missing all their key targets. Kind of like Spurs under Levy. You can shop "too hard" for a bargain, and miss out on what you need.

LAFC of MLS has moved on from Thomas Mueller and is now after Son Yeung-Min of Tottenham, as Vancouver looks to Mueller.

Your attack is already loaded; I agree.

The attack is loaded from a numbers standpoint... but with the Jota tragedy and Diazin Munich, Salah is the only proven goal scorer and he's out for ANC this year. Gakpo and Nunez are VERY inconsistent... Ekitike is still unproven in the EPL. I think FSG is being wise in continuing to pursue Isak and Rodrygo who are a bit more proven.

Liverpool is also definitely one CB probably two short. Hopefully they can extend Konate this year.

Liverpool have done an amazing job of reloading and planning for the future. I really hope Ekitike pans out... he is high risk high reward. I also hope Wirtz is the next KDB.

You simply refuse to include me in the conversation. Very hurt. :)

In between Real and MIlan, Jovic played at...

you guessed it...FIORENTINA

And was awful, btw...

Yet another striker who was allergic to scoring.

Wirtz and Ekitike both look very good. Wirtz is going to stitch your offense together in the final third. Ekitike is outstanding with the ball at his feet, and is very fast for a guy over 6 feet tall. I think Gakpo is a more solid player than Nunez because he's not so emotional. I think he just needs more consistent minutes.

LOL, I'm so sorry!

Gakpo is much more composed and has much better touch than Nunez. Nunez is a wild card every time on the pitch.. for LFC and opponents both.

Kerkez and Frimpong, along with Wirtz, change the entire dynamic of our attack. Mo and whomever is at LW will play much more advanced with MUCH more able runners to cover LB and RB

LOL..I do realize that you two are talking about the equivalent of Georgia and Alabama whereas my team would be a directional Michigan school in the MAC...

That is not true at all! But, gosh, I was just looking up your history, hoping to point to some recent championship or cup, but boy, your recent past is pretty barren. A couple runner up finishes in Conference League.

Didn't Claudio Ranieri coach there? And I thought the former Chelsea coach, Sarri, went there too. Am I confused with another club?

Canadian striker Jonathan David has signed with Juventus.

Chelsea closes on Ajax LB/CB Jorrel Hato.

Arsenal talking to Crystal Palace's Eberize Eze about a transfer. Palace has a 67.5M release clause that expires on 8/15. He would be a good acquisition, and that is not an unreasonable price.

Chelsea may loan CF Marc Guiu to Sunderland for the season.
Granit Xhaka also just moved to Sunderland from Leverkusen.

Chelsea also working on the books by selling another young player to sister-team Strasbourg.

Napoli sniffing around Jack Grealish.

Nick Pope may be moved on by Newcastle to raise some funds.

Former Arsenal CB Martin Skriniar moves from PSG to Fenerbace for 10M Euro. He's still only 30, and should have a few years left at the right level

Wrexham approaching Conor Coady, for Premier League CB.

They made an approach to Christian Erickson, who still want to play at a top flight team, in whatever league.

No way Napoli can afford Grealishes wages. He's on 300k/week at City and still has 2 years left on contract

Pretty barren is an understatement.

Last Scudetto was 1969 (we only have 2). Only win in Europe was in 1961.

We are a feeder team.

Fiorentina gets some really good players when they are young and then they go on to bigger and better clubs.

The most famous example if Roberto Baggio but there is also Bernardeschi, Vlahovic and Chiesa among others.

Mo Saleh actually spent part of a season at Fiorentina on loan from Roma.

Ranieri did but back in the 90s.

Most recent successful coach at Fiorentina was Prandelli who took them to their last 2 champions league appearances before he moved on to become the coach of the national team (the team that made the Euros final in 2012 before getting waxed by Spain).

With the start of the Premier League less than 2 weeks away, here is the latest transfer news.

David Moyes not at all happy with Everton's effort (and injuries) as their US preseason tour ends with a draw vs. United, following losses to West Ham and Bournemouth. Moyes says they "need 8 or 9 new players" before the window closes at the end of the month. Ouch.

Tottenham finally seal their loan deal with Bayern for Joao Palhinha, who will bolster their midfield. James Madison suffered a knee injury in their last game, and is going to be out for several months, it looks like.

West Ham have just added striker Callum Wilson, the free agent who last played for Newcastle. Nice pickup for them! It was also nice to see Luis Paqueta back for them. He's a very talented guy.

However, Graham Potter will not be bringing back Mikhail Antonio, now that he has signed Wilson up front. I was surprised to hear that Antonio is now 35 years old. He has had a lot of injuries these last 2 or 3 years, as well being in a terrible car crash last winter. This sounds like the end of the line for him at the top tier.

He looked reasonably good in the US, but Rasmus Hojland is very publicly for sale by United for 30M.

Big news in the striker games is that Liverpool made a 110M offer for Alexander Isak of Newcastle, after having talked informally to them about a 120M offer. Liverpool says publicly that they will go no higher.

Some people at Newcastle feel that Liverpool was tapping up their player, who has been unsettled. They feel that the offer was to save face with their supporters, and was insincere, after they had already signed Hugo Ekitike. Good news for Newcastle is that Isak returned to training with Newcastle today, and they are trying to welcome him back.

However, Newcastle have made an 80M offer for Benjamin Sesko, a big 6-5 battering ram center forward who is still only 22. He is not the finished article, though. He is similar to DeLap, who was signed by Chelsea, but about 3 inches taller. But I don't think Sesko is going to want to move there, which has been a huge problem for their recruitment this summer.

Newcastle had previously made an offer for Brentford's Yoanne Wissa of around 25M, and the rumor is that 30M would do it. Or maybe they will turn to PSG's Goncalo Romos for the number 9. I'll believe it when I see it.

Milan may make an offer for Darwin Nunez, hoping they can get a bit of a knock down price, now that Nunez seeks his time under threat. Liverpool wants 50M, so my bet would be a move to Saudi. I think it was Al Hillal who was interested in him.

Spurs are supposedly interested in Rodrygo now that Son is gone, but Levy never spends that kind of money. It's probably the agent trying to find a home for him.

Chelsea offered Christopher Nkunku and cash for Barcelona MF Ferran Lopez, but Hansi Flick is not interested in Nkunku.

Juventus are interested in Sporting Lisbon's MF Morton Hjulmand. They've offered 40M, but Sporting wants 60M and feel under no pressure to sell, after getting big money for Gyorekes from Arsenal.

Colorado Rapids have signed CB Rob Holding from Crystal Palace. Holding is still only 29, and used to play for Arsenal.

Tim Weah moves on loan from Juve to Marseille with an option to buy for 14M. Nice move. Good league for him.

Milan also interested in Dusan Vlahovic from Juve, and were willing to offer one of four players as a makeweight on the price.

Atalanta's Ademola Lookman, the winger, is upset that his club have resisted Milan's efforts to sign him, and has asked to be moved. Milan, meanwhile, have turned to Juve's Nico Gonzalez, or Chelsea's Christopher Nkunku. More dominoes will surely fall.

Jakub Kiwior, the Arsenal CB, is subject of interest from several clubs, but Arteta would like to keep his 25 year old CB for depth. Arsenal are going to play a lot of games this year.

Girona and Crystal Palace seem to be close to a deal where attacker Odsonne Edouard would go to Girona for Right Back Arnau Martinez.

Former Everton CB Yerry Mina wants to leave Cagliari and return to the Premiere League. He can be had for 2M Euro. Nice pick up for a midtable team. Mina is still only 30. He still has a few years in the tank.

With Chelsea unwilling to go past 60M Euro for Xavi Simons of Leipzig, Leipzig have asked about Tyrique George, a tall talented 19 year old LW for Chelsea whose path to the first team is clearly blocked. Good deal for everyone.

Gonzalez is another one. Tremendous player for Fiorentina. 16 goals in 44 games in 23-24.

Moves to Juve and is already on his way out after one relatively forgettable season with 5 goals in 38 games.

Yeah, it's disappointing when "big clubs" hoover up talented young players and then never give them a proper chance. I see that all the time with Chelsea under the new leadership - buy guys, and then buy replacements before they've even played 10-15 games for the team.

Why are Chelsea trying to move Nkunku? I rate him as properly talented from what I've seen.

Yerry Mina is trash. He's fat, slow and has a temper.
