Everyone needs to let Wildhack know

National articles like this are why Wildhack better move fast on Dino.
Give Dino and his staff raises and commit to him.

College football Winners and Losers from Week 7: Ohio State, LSU riding highs

Dino Babers and his agent: One storyline has been notably lacking from this season, and that is an in-demand in the coaching carousel. Who was going to be this year's Tom Herman, ready to work his way up the coaching ladder or re-work his contract? We might have our answer in New York. Syracuse's 27-24 upset over No. 2 Clemson was the Orange's second major upset over a ranked team in as many years under Babers. This one obviously trumps last year's home win over Virginia Tech, but the point is Syracuse is worthy of your best shot now. (This has somewhat quietly been the case for a while.) Babers has done a magnificent job at a program that seemed left in college football's past, and with five opportunities to get two more wins, a bowl game is a real possibility for a team that faces one of the toughest schedules in the nation. I'm not here to predict what Babers will or won't do in a couple of months, but I am here to tell you he's the name to watch.

I like what this whole staff has done from the get go and to me...again...is that money is there and keeping HCDB's staff intact as much as possible. I also know that Wildhack isn't a fool and knows the score.

Wildhack may get the job done but I am from Missouri with him. He needs Show Me with results and not faith because he worked at ESPN he will get it done.

He has got some airtime
for Babers on ESPN so I have to believe he's wiggling around setting other things up behind the scenes. He was proactive big time with the Hop situation.

My fav response in all of this is “what does he want? He’s compensated”

There is no line - they want to have as many resources as they can to do their jobs. More the better. This is a universal truth, natural order of things, etc.

The real question is how much will it take to keep a guy who can go elsewhere. That is on Wildhack and the BoT. They need to do right by all the parties involved.

True and if they have a good solid relationship and communicating (which I think they do) we SU fans should be in fine shape just following and supporting the team.

Proactive with the Hop situation?
He did the only thing he could.
We had to double down on JB after Hop left for the stability of the basketball program.
Hop leaving was helpful to JB as Wildhack couldn’t afford to do anything else without pissing off JB.

On Babers getting him on ESPN is nice but any coach after a huge upset like that would get some attention.

Wildhack will be judged on whether he can sign Dino to a long term situation here at Syracuse. He gets it done he will get nothing but praise from me for it. He doesn’t get it done Wildhack will get scorn and not be worthy of this near universal love he has without doing anything major yet.

Wildhack is on notice now to get it done because schools will be coming for Dino.

It has to be closer to 6 million than 2.5 million. With a commensurate increase for his staff.

Getting him on espn is the least we should expect.

The university, as a whole, has to decide if it's committed to being a P5 competitor.

If so, we should be able to hold Babers until an elite program makes a godfather offer.

Otherwise we're all wasting our time. We are almost through a generation of terrible to mediocre football. I hope everyone is keenly aware of the impact of not investing in the football program.

I want schools to come after Dino, just like I want schools to go after SU's recruits because you know you have something good. I also think that the Hop situation helped teach Wildhack how to be more proactive and I agree with you that he should be, I also feel that he will be.

The work JW's doing behind the scenes has been more than I could've hoped...

The pub Syracuse has gotten this season has far outweighed the past 8 years combined... And it didn't all occur, and wasn't all because of Friday night. Now, Friday night gives a platform to the football program that you can't buy, and that's Dino. But you don't think that gets maximized when we've got ESPN's former #2 a couple doors down from Dino?

Wildhack has been an absolute home run thus far. He's the 1st AD we've had this millennium that's got the Chancellor bought in on athletics needs. The BOT is next, and they've always been the roadblock.

I bet the number will be one that SU isn’t going to match unless the Pegulas will underwrite the unreasonable college coach surplus. Dino will drive this. He’s either all in or looking for an exit. Any scotch tape will be used against us for his deal w UCLA or A&M. If he’s all in they will massage his needs w some additional funding for coaches etc.

SU is a private university. There is a limit to the largessse. I feel like the school has done all the things to make it comparable to our peer schools in northeast. We will not play in the distorted college football toy playground is my guess. Makes me once again feel fortunate we had Coach P not leveraging his amazing start in early 90s for greener grass.

I thought we paid Dino market to come to Syracuse. As I have said ad nauseum, he’s compensated. If they want to round the edges w more cash for assistants sure but let’s see how the season ends. U guys are hyperbolic. If the board was around in 1995, coach p would have been paid 10mm per year for getting mcnabb and then crushing clemson in the gator bowl

If Dino has interest in being elsewhere we will know very shortly bc he will be in demand. I hope wildhack is prepared but please don’t lose perspective here
You do realize that market rate for a coach with no P5 experience as a head coach is different than market rate for a top 25 P5 coach right? I mean right?

The 25 highest paid coach (bottom of top 25 by definition) is paid ~$4M. So that would be the minimum if we are talking about market rate.

We will never pay top 10 money but there is no reason we shouldn’t be able to compete with the next 20.

I get why we have become paranoid on this issue. We are still traumatized on the way Marrone left, and remember how he asked for things to support what he was trying to accomplish, and did not receive them at that time. I think what we want is, whatever coach Babers ask for, if it is within reason, give it to him without complication and delay. I think that is a reasonable expectation. And I don't get the impression that Baber's is an unreasonable coach. Any coach would want at least the tools to compete with our peers. We are not Clemson, FSU level, but we can be in the tier under them consistently if things are handled correctly.

This is what I've been told about the Marrone situation. It was, in fact, his dream job.

Within 2-3 months, he realized he was never going to get what he needed/wanted. That realization only grew as his tenure wore on.

Good football coach, not a lot of friends left around here.

As soon as he earned bigger opportunities, it was over. If it wasn't the NFL, it was a better college job. He was out no matter what.

Sure wake me when we r in the top 25 for an entire season if that is the goalpost. Did Dino sign a contract w language that upsizes his deal if we make top 25 once? Since we were 4-8 last year does he give back his salary? He signed what he thought was reasonable for 6 years.

Like i said, I want the guy at Syracuse forever and ever. He’s the guy but it’s not gonna matter if he has grand plans elsewhere.

Your last paragraph is spot on. I would be shocked if Dino didn't have some desire to coach at a top 10 factory school. Maybe he finds comfort and stability at Cuse and never actually goes that route, but, if that's been his goal, which I would think is nearly every coach in D1, no matter what we do, it may not be enough. Let's hope for the best.

Coaching at a "factory" school absolutely has its benefits but on the downside you have the money people breathing down your neck as well. I'd like the autonomy SU has to offer personally but that is me...hopefully Dino feels that way too. And we have really good noodles and pasta here as well.

He actually returned my email. Said thanks for the letter of support, and that he hopes Dino is our coach for a very long time.
He returned mine and said the same thing! I was impressed. I didn't expect to hear back!

My feeling on Baber's is that he speaks from the heart, and not just typical coach speak. He seems to really appreciate history, and is more than just enamored with the the program's historical past; not just the fabled 44's, but Csonka, Morris, Monk, Harrison, McNabb, Freeney's and Hall of Famer's, etc. The jewel that truly is the Dome, a la, "The Loudhouse." It's truly a 'sleeping dog' that can be awakened to 'lie' no more...in ways that nobody else can match, even with much larger capacities. He feels/envisions the potential unmatched home field advantage that this place has. For those that may remember Steve Spurrier's comments back in the early 90's after handling his Top 10 Gator team in the Dome at the time...it can consistently be again. SU & the powers that be need to move on the Dome renovations as swiftly as reasonably possible, proving its commitment and capitalizing on this forward momentum and its athletic future & relevance.

Baber's realizes that SU is -relatively- the only game in town, and if the commitment is there, and the winning ensues, it can be very special...even with "all the snow" and "all the traffic congestion." ;):)

Honest question what pub?

ESPN didn’t give us anything they wouldn’t have for all schools if they beat #2 as the only game on air.

We played on Friday before. I want Wildhack to do well. I don’t see this stuff he has done.

The chancellor before bought into athletics. Cantor spent like a drunken sailor but she was committed to athletics. She let Dr. Gross spend crazy money on the Olympic sports.

What has Wildhack done?
He did give the Jet service to Dino so I give him that. I gave him credit when he did that but he hasn’t done all this stuff to deserve this faith yet.

Thanks for the insider input here. Most don’t seem to have a clue how this works or where issues are...

He also hated the 24/7 cycle of recruiting...
