Extend Dino now

Because he didn't catch a pass? We were 24 point dogs and he attempted to give the O the ball to win the game.

No one better is walking through that door.
No. But when you combine this give away with MTSU, its a bad look. I realize no one better is walking through that door.

To be honest, I'm less confident in him now, than at any point prior. We really gave away this game tonight.

He didn’t drop the ball on 2 TDS or bite inside on a routine 15 yard completion.

I would extend him but not because we lost to LSU.

I wish I worked for you. I'd have a 537 year contract by now.
No you would be on a very short lease because of a total lack of vision. Id have you on charge of returns.

Wait. Are people really basing their decision on whether they want Dino to be the leader of this program based on 1 in-game call? That is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard. The last thing I am basing that decision on is because of 1 or 2 questionable in-game decisions. Building a program is so much bigger that making a game day call. No HC, be it Bill Belichak or Nick Saban is a perfect game day HC. There is so much more that's goes into the years and years it takes to implement a winning culture to a program that has been in disarray for the past 20 years. I am the last person who is going to give credit for a moral victory. I never have believed in them, and I don't now. But I also know enough to realize that we went on the road to one of the most talent teams, year in and year out, in the country. We basically dominated the 1st half minus our star QB coming out not composed and basically throwing a pick 6, as well as our experienced return man dropping the easiest TD pass he will ever see. Still, the point is, 5 years from now this game will be a blip on the radar, or if anything, a positive recruiting tool to show recruits. Dino proved last year he can coach a less talented team up to win easily (VT), and tonight he again showed he can go to one of the toughest venues in the country as a 23 point under dog and basically play more than well enough to win. It's painfully obvious that the 2 classes he has brought in are light years ahead of his predecessor in size, athleticism, and talent. There is a clear plan for where he sees this program going and he is recruiting to those needs. He is still either using upper classmen, who don't exactly fit his scheme, or underclassmen to compete with the best programs in the country. If people don't see this as positive steps then I don't know what to say. But the very last reason I would hold my reserve is because of a questionable onside kick. That's downright ridiculous. Not to mention who do you think we are bringing in that matches this style and proven track record?
Great post. Spot on

How many years would SU still be paying off our last coach had we extended him like you suggested, Vision McGee?

Man you guys want your cake and to eat it too. If we convert that onsides you all are lining up to give Dino HJ's in an alley. It was a good call. It didn't lose us the game.

Losing at LSU by 9 or whatever isn't terrible.

MTSU was an odd game, it happens.
Losing at LSU isn't terrible. But this was a highly winnable game where we got roasted by big passing plays against a team not exactly known for that offensive trait.

We can round and round forever, but this hasn't been a great start to year 2. All I am saying.

The oddsmakers had it as otherwise. We muffed a TD, outside of that the rest was what it was

We got roasted because their WRs were more talented than our DBs.

LSU puts WRs in the NFL all the time. Last SU DB to make it? Shamarko?

So you dont see what this guy has accomplished what he is building?

That has nothing to do with your extension fetish. How many times have you pleaded to extend an SU coach? It's weird. Let the AD do his job. If Babers is doing well he'll be taken care of.

Because you don't take your team out of the game/the come back. It such an obvious no no in that circumstance. Someone saying it wasn't supposed to be called and he was upset. I honestly hope so as it would show he's not shafferesque, because otherwise it shakes my confidence in his intelligence

No. We were in the game because we took chances. This is who Dino Babers is. Courage or giant balls or whatever - he has it. Shafer would have been happy with 60 snaps, not going for it on 4th down (unless it’s a fake punt), and losing 23-3.

We were within 2 with 5 minutes left and true to form he goes for the onside kick. Dumb? I don’t think so, but a case can be made. Ballsy? There is no case against that.

He’s also very successfully filled gaps in his program with good players (transfers and JUCO guys). He knows what’s wrong and set out to fix it.

Not really...you are assuming that SU does something with the ball after recovering the onsides.

Its not weird. What is proven to work at the college level is continuity. You have to build three major things.

1: your system/culture
2: recruiting. In most cases relationships with HS coaches/programs take years. Most players are offered sophomore and Junior years
3:knowledge of opponents.

All of these areas require time. Yes i thought that Shaf if provided with 3 more years would have turned the corner as i liked Lester as on OC.
As to Dino he is an upgrade to Shaf which is why i would extend him now.
If you look at SU football our best success has come via continuity.

Simply put. I disagree with you.

Just think it’s funny that some want to blame the coaching that we didn’t beat LSU on the road. LOL. I didnt like the onsides but whatever. If our WR’s caught the two TDS they should’ve we would’ve been winning and would’nt have had to consider trying an onsides.

Our D competed and held them down for most of the game. Our moved the ball. We came back from 21-3 to 28-26 on the road at LSU on the road in a night game. Stop being a bunch of youth sports moms who think their kid with two left feet should go to the NFL. The coach can only do so much. The team with way more talent on its home field won. We’re coming though.

Babers has a multi-year contract. Extending it right now will not keep him here should he want to leave. If/when the time is right the AD can give him a raise and more years. He just coached his 16th game here.

You disagree that I don't think a contract extension 1 1/4s into his time her is some guarantee that he'll be here 10 years and win a title.

The fact that you were constantly telling us Shafer had to be extended is exactly why it's weird.

Read my post. Its not weird. Actually arguing that it is weird is well...weird.

I think we need to take a collective breath. We lose to mtsu at home and it's meltdown central. We play lsu tough on the road and now people want to give HCDB an extention. What if we win 2 more games all year... or 1... or 3? There are no absolutes, and it's way to early to make any determination on this staff. And there's no rush or urgency right now. We're 2-2 coming off a 4-8 season and going into the meat grinder part of out schedule. Let's wait and see how some things play out for a little bit first

Yea bud thats been are imo fer almost 17 years since grob... But instead we'd lose by 30. Whats clear is that dino has a blueprint its been proven to work and the overhaul of the D is clear proof of that. We have one of the best recruiting classes we've ever had and a clear identity. We all knew this rebuild would take a couple of years. This team is YOUNG. All this crabbing about Riley's drop or onside kicks it stupid. Be happy we had a chance to win a game against a historic sec team fer the first time in 20 years. Not only are the players growing in there role so are the coaches, thats been one clear thing to me this year. Buckle in its going to be a wild ride but next year is easily an 8 win season all are youth is going to be experienced.
