Extend Dino Now

I’m not worried about extending him nor will I concern myself with the “pay him now” mantra of some. I have faith Wildhack and Dino have a handle on the contract side of things. They talk often.

What I do worry about a lot, and what would cause Dino to question whether this is the right place, is the attendance and fannies in the seats. We aren’t doing a good job at all.

If he weee to leave in the near future, it won’t be because of his contract. It’ll be us.

Team is improving despite the record and recent losses. Look at how they performed overall when reasonably healthy. Clawson was 3-9 in his first 2 years at Wake. Won 7 in his third year, and has a chance to win 9 this year in his 4th. Good lord...the idea of patience, and not judging the coach by his first 2 years seems to be lost on people that are hopeful this would be turned around this year, or even last year. This is not the NFL. If Dino is the man, and I feel he is, then give him the same amount of time that nearly every other dumpster fire of a program needed to turn around the team into a 7+ win team consistently. That is nearly without exception 3-4 years. There would be so many great coaches fired if you had just judged them based on their first 2 years.

Post of the week! Bravo

Actually we should. Seriously no BS. We are playing with subs and hurt guys all over the board. We beat and hung with great teams when we were healthy. He is perfect for us. I actually would extend him. Add 2 years and increase the buyout significantly. Its counter intuitive but it is the move

Give him the staff support he feels he needs.

The attendance issue is one Babers is going to have to deal with because the casual fan isnt coming out when SU has lost 4 straight and been absolutely embarrased as bad as I can recall the last six quarters. I am as diehard as it gets and I am struggling to get up for Saturday's finale.

That UCLA vacancy is not good news for us retaining Dino.
I think actually quite the opposite. They can't sell their fanbase on Babers current body of work this offseason. However, if Mora was fired next year and we win 7-8 games, would be a different story.

Stop blaming “us.” No one can do anything about attendance except the team, by winning. As stated a million times, in the Northeast, football is entertainment, not religion.

Building a program back involves fan support. The reason it’s low is not Babers or Wildhack’s fault.

It’s the residue of 15+ years of subpar to poor football.

Just like turning the results on the field being a slow process - so to will be building up a fan base.

But it can be done.

I’ll cut a deal with HCDB - we’ll give you patience if you give us (the community) patience.

historically syracuse is not a sport minded town. you must win to get people out. we do not live and die with su. watch attendance at su hoops if they are losers. when the football team looses, raking leaves becomes a priority. you can also stream games . the dome rocks when we are winning, the dome is a cavernous cave when we are losing. typically, for myself i am not driving 3.5 hrs up to the boston college game and back when i can probably stream the game. if not i will be raking leaves. just the way it is for me.

Sorry, it is an “us” issue.

Please - never start a Dino to Tennessee, Florida or even Oregon State thread again.
Agreed. Despite the losing record the team is fun to watch and has been making the national news. Actually, I though the defense played much better than last year, up until the Wake game.

so if it is, what changes it????on good years we may get 42-44 thousand for high end opponents--except the fact --its the best they are ever going to do.---and only if we are winners. there is no substitution for winning---
you are suggesting that all teams problems are rooted in the fan base ---thats rediculous. i wonder how wake forest averages a game??/
by the way, do you know anything more re the dome renovation/ serious question

THIS.

With the notable exception of the past 6 straight quarters of football, the D has played well overall, and the team has improved as compared to last year -
in every way, except for the W/L record.

Which, given facing the hardest schedule in the entire country, was not exactly unexpected.

We'll always have the Clemson game, and VaTech from last year.
(which are 2 more Top 25 pelts than the former regime managed in 3 full seasons)

And recruiting is definitely on a uptick as well.

... before some pedantic SOB tries to trot out recruiting rankings for the prior X # of years, it's important to note that basically none of Shafer's "best recruits" ever made it to campus (since they were all academic reaches), and the rare few who did, ended up doing nothing of note here.

Dino's guys are getting here, and more are on the way.
We're no longer duking it out with Akron and Directional State for our "top" guys.:p

tl/dr - I'm in the Extend Dino Now camp.
Belief without evidence goes both ways.
(but I believe we've actually seen plenty of evidence. ;))
