With all his off court issues was the last dominating player we had since melo. His presence down low was not only fun to watch but was a huge advantage in our favor. Too bad his head wasnt screwed on straight. He could of been special.

Dominating? Not quite. He was strong defensively, but far from being a dominating player.

He was Jeremy McNeil plus a couple inches and a slightly better touch on offense.

Yes, at times he was dominating...on defense only. He was never really a threat on offense. I guess I just personally don't consider someone to be our most dominant player since Carmelo if he only impacts part of the game, some of the time.

I loved watching him his sophomore year, and wish we could have seen what he could do as a junior, so believe me, I know where you are coming from. I just don't think dominant is a word I'd use to describe him.

Yes defensively he totally changed the game when he was in there. We were a different team when he didnt play. He blocked, altered, made people shoot tougher shots and got in players heads with his shot blocking. His offensive was craig forthish.

Um, HakimWarrick?

Saw him at the bar randomly all the time when he was here. Pretty sure that was/is his downfall.

Hakim was a dunking machine who could score. He didnt impact the game offensively like fab did defensively.

I would say Fab may have been more dominant defensive than Hak was offensively (Hak was first team AA as a senior...) but Hak could do more on D than Fab on offense

I think Fab was on the cusp of dominating college basketball. Had he stayed one more year, he would have been a monster. 10pts a game, 10 rebs a game, and 5 blocks a game. No doubt in my mind.

Those numbers seem very optimistic. Could happen, but I wouldn't be ready to go there. Especially since he didn't even crack 6 rebounds a game as a soph. Anthony Davis couldn't even crack those numbers (on the blocks).

Dominating may not be the best word but Fab was definitely the biggest gamechanger since Melo. I think we win the National Championship with him. Just look at Kentucky pre and post Noel's injury.

So who do you like in this year's group and over the next couple of years? You made a good choice with Dion. Who's our next legend?

Ennis has it factor, but i haven't seen enough of the other players to determine anything.

I still don't think anyone takes out UK that year. B ut who knows. I'd love to see some on court/off court splits with Fab from 2012.

My thoughts too. Lots of potential and I'm waiting to see who will show well. I'm really optimistic overall but think the young guys will develop over the season with mixed results. Ennis looks the part of leader.

uk doesn't have the stars they had 2 years ago imo. Gilchrist and Davis were really good.

With fab was it seriously fencing???? If so thats the worst part.

That would have been an epic game. If not for the Bernie Fine crap, the NCAA and refs might not have had it out for us so.

I do. Would have loved to see their frosh exhibit patience and execute half court offensive sets against our zone. I think we would have been a much more difficult matchup for them than Kansas proved to be.

absolutely. I dont think we would have won but it would have been a pretty damn good game

He was a knock down post up player. Anyone who can play with their back to he basket is insanely impactful.

Fab was fat then had a pretty good year when he played.

Maybe, but Withey was a pretty good defensive presence also. KU was #4 in defensive efficiency in 2012, we were 17th. (Which of course includes games Fab didn't play). But KU was also a great defense, like they pretty much always are.

But I'm not going to pretend I know for sure who was gonna win that game. We definitely could have won. I would have favored UK though.

Who cares what the respective ratings were? This is an example of where looking at the numbers doesn't tell the interpretive story. KU played man to man, often full court, which played right into UK's up-tempo hands. Whereas we would have played a style that would have been [1] unfamiliar to them, and [2] wouldn't have ratcheted up the tempo.

Now, if Kentucky had hit all of those threes that they did against Kansas, nobody would beat them. The question is: would they have hit them all against us, or even had those same looks?

Please note that I'm not suggesting that we WOULD have beaten them, just that I believe that we COULD have. We were one of the few teams that year that could have.
