Favorite single play ever

Diamond Ferri against BC:

I'll look for more. It would be great if someone at SU could take this list, find the highlights and compile them.

Sorry about that, for some reason while I used the embed code so the video would play right where the plays were, it didn't happen.

That's actually a really good idea.
I found myself wishing I could see some of these plays for myself, as I haven't seen some of them on video. I've read about them, and hear about them but never seen them.

McNabb to Brominski: YouTube Video

Two other great things about that play afterwards were McNabb finding his Mom on the field and the look on Beamers face.

I remember sitting in the stands watching McNabb, and saying to my buddy "where the hell is McNabb going?" Awesome moment. I believe he later went up to the handicapped section and shook hands with folks there. I'm serious about that.

Miami, '98, reverse to Kevin Johnson. Someone, I think it was Pilon, hits a Miami player who DIDN'T have his head on a swivel, and knocks him two feet up and three feet back. Demolished.

Or the QB draw against Miami in '97.

Graves to Johnson against Florida, just a perfect play, the drop, the release, on a dime.

Donnie against PSU, option look, fake pitch, TD.

Daryl Johnston up the middle on first down. Six yards and a cloud of dust. Hard-nosed (and semi-old school).
Johnston's run against WV in 87, penultimate TD if I recall, carried half the WV defense from the 10 all the way into the end zone. Or maybe he just got close, can't recall exactly. Moose at his finest.

God I love Coach Mac - his color commentary is basically the equivalent of a semi-drunk fan watching at a bar. And I wouldn't have it any other way.

Worst thing about that play was me being tackled by a security guard as I rushed the field...while hundreds of other people ran by untouched. That dick took out my knee, which hurt for days after.

Still fun though.

:)

He was a typical alpha predator. Look for the weakest in the herd ;)

It was a dirty hit.

No place for that in today's game.

:)

Moose had the 1st of the three 4th quarter TD's.

Owens took a screen pass to the house for the 2nd.

Pat Kelly had the 3rd.

Donnie Mac to Rob Moore. For me there's not a close second. That one play was sooooo significant in the programs history. It was the spark that lit a flame that burned for years...

What a great play call too. It was coach Mac flipping Joepa the bird.
Either that, the 2 pt conversion against WVU, or the bomb against Nebraska

Haven't seen it mentioned yet, but Joe Morris kickoff return for TD vs. Miami (Ohio) in the 1980 Dome opener was a great moment. Still the largest crowd ever in the Dome.

It's too bad that none of us can name a Jim Brown play.

Not nearly as high in stature as those already mentioned, but the series of sacks that wrecked Tom Savage was fun.

Awesome! just Awesome thread! Made life at the office a little more pleasant this morning! I almost screamed a few times watching the highlights. All of these are GREAT and more significant in the big picture than mine and a lot less painful. In 92 when Cuse played Texas in the Dome I was starting my 1st senior year and my student tickets were at the tunnel area where the players run out (yes current young students our section then ran from the 20 or so around the end zone to the band). It was a big game..I think Cuse was ranked in the top 10 at the time and if I remember right Keith Jackson was doing the game on ABC. Syracuse was down to a average Texas team and came back to tie the game on a Graves pitch to David Walker throw back to Graves 2 pt conversion. Graves lays out in the end zone and makes a sick fingertip catch. I am in the first row and the players come to high 5 us and I am getting crushed between the orang railing and the mass of people behind me. All of a sudden BAM the railing collapses and we are on too of graves and I think I am literally headed for the big man cave in the sky as I am basically hanging onto the railing with thousands of pounds behind me. The railing continues to to fall to the ground and probably 10 of us or so are on the field. Security comes over pissed at us because we are there and starts kicking people out (our fault for thinking the railings would hold us of course). I play hurt so they don't kick me out and I watch the rest of game from the field! Cuse wins and all is well. I couldn't find any video of that game but it was awesome!

Great thread! That was before my time but the best no-quit effort I ever witnessed was vs VT in '98. Late in the game, we score to go up 22-21 & elect to go for 2. McNabb throws a terrible INT directly to a Hokie DB in the flat who catches it in stride & now has clear-path sprint to the end zone & the lead. Instead of hanging his head, McNabb sprints the length of the field to catch him at the 8 yd line. It was a surreal moment in the Dome watching this foot race, seemingly in slow-motion, between 2 men with the game on the line...one striving for glory and the other determined to redeem himself. I'll never forget the "ebb & flow" of the crowd noise, from elation/excitement following the TD & going for 2, to the devastated groan after the interception, to the gradually-building roar as we watched the pure athleticism & determination of McNabb's all-out 85 yard come-from-behind sprint. Yes, the VT DB fumbled the ball (clearly intentionally) forward into the endzone where a teammate recovered to take the 23-22 lead, but I'll never forget that scene and it's indelible message of correcting your mistakes.

That's the first thing that came to mind when I saw the Bevill clip. McNabb isn't known as Mr. Hustle, but that was a remarkable effort. He absolutely ran down someone who should have been a faster player.

Coach Mac was so excited about that return. Great clip.

What a game. That staff was (deservedly) more elated after that trip than they'd been in years.
