Mentions enough that you can figure it out. Location, public vs. private, number of schools...I havent finished but I'm concerned about the Miami one. It's a 2018 recruit and specifically mentions a University-4 offering similar money and it's sponsored by a competing apparel company...this is all from August (last month)...so if carey it'd be us or uconn.

Wouldn't that make it Arizona? We already know they are university 4.

You don't mess with the FBI. The NCAA could never run this investigation. Not enough power. Feds are a totally different story. People will be rolling over like slinkys.

Yeah, it's been a dirty little secret at every school for a very long time.

That's the thing I'm thinking about. Only 8 schools are named in this case? Dont insiders feel this is a much more widespread practice than only 8 schools? Hopefully this leads to system-wide reforms, rather than simply making examples out of a handful of schools. I know it's a complicated question but ultimately players need to be paid.

Wire fraud is a federal offense. Add in the fact this all likely took place through state lines on a national scale.

It looks like some universities are left off some of the affidavits. There were two different affidavits posted in this thread; one mentioning schools 2-5 and one mentioning 6+7. Haven't seen a mention of University 1 or 8 yet, but I assume 1 is Auburn since we already know they're involved.

this is a point worth emphasizing. I've seen it mentioned in this thread a few times already wondering where the NCAA is in all of this. Far be it for me to defend the NCAA (they certainly have their own issues), but the NCAA is a private organization. Their ability to conduct investigations and enforcement actions is limited. Unlike the FBI, the NCAA does not have subpoena power, the NCAA cannot threaten with jail, and the NCAA does not have the wealth of institutional knowledge and manpower to investigate things correctly. If you avoid getting caught red handed and manage to not self implicate/confess, it is easy to avoid the NCAA. It is much harder to stonewall the FBI. The trick, of course, is that the FBI is typically not particularly interested in recruiting shenanigans in college athletics, so it isn't something they would ordinarily investigate.

That's basically exactly what JB said in his book about Kentucky and UNC, without implying that they cheat. But I'm sure that's part of why he generally shies away from going up against them in recruiting.

Some quick reactions:

1) Pretty sad that the FBI is the one breaking this open and not the NCAA. Today's events shine a gigantic spotlight on that organization's totally farcical/ineffectual/hypocritical nature.

2) I have mentioned many times on this board that Pitino must be a huge fan of Calipari, because once Calipari became the official 'recruiting boogeyman', fans forgot about how much of a slimball dirtbag cheater Pitino is/was. Pitino was the original Calipari. The fact they would buy a player WHILE THEY WERE ON FREAKING PROBATION tells you everything you need to know. He's as bad as Calipari.

3) I am 0% surprised that Laranaga/Miami are involved. This is another guy whose public reputation is somehow much different than his actual nature. One of my friends knows a guy who used to be an assistant for Laranaga and he said he's a dirty recruiter, as well as a giant in general.
