Feeling Minnesota (a.k.a. The top 25 question?)

Surprises can happen, but I think you're likely right.
We have scored 30+ points in 2 of 21 games against P5 with HCSS. 1 game the 2013 finale against Boston College where we scored the points with 8 seconds left and we scored 30 points on the dot against a horrible Wake Forest team where we had a defensive TD.

We aren't going to average 30 ppg I would be happy if we hit 30 points in more than 1 ACC game next year. #lockemupintheDome.

Well then next year is a wasted year. Which sucks.

After losing at least 7, likely 8, defensive starters, plus starting over with a whole new offense, I wouldn't be carving out time and money for a 2015 bowl appearance.

But on the plus side, there is a built in set of reasons why it's going to be another 3 win season. So if we win 4, we can start talking extension.

If we don't win 6 games next year Scott Shafer has to be gone. He would be a lameduck coach and unworthy of an extension. I wouldn't give SU another dime if he remains HC without a bowl next year. 2/3s of college football get bowl eligible. To not be in the top 67% two years in a row good bye.

Huh? We played NW, Penn St, Tulane, and Wagner going 2-2. If we schedule a touch lighter for both games (SEC/Duke/NcState style) - we go 4-0 OOC. That's 8-4, with a close game at home vs Pitt.

I conceded one game to you, not two. I won't concede that SU should not schedule at least ONE decent P5 OOC game each year. Referencing my example, Minnesota did and they lost it.

That's fine. But Duke was in the top 25 and played 3 awful teams and a p5 team in Kansas.

Right, and they won that game against Kansas.

You think a decent SU team (meaning: not the 2014 edition) couldn't have beaten what turned out to be a very mediocre ND team, who gifted us FIVE turnovers?

2015: 14-0, ranked. #2 in the country... I've gotta leave some room for improvement.

I'm not saying we couldn't. We could. But the truth is - if the goal is top 25 - it's really just about w/l and conference affiliation. Duke proved that.

Sign me up for a year or two of cupcakes in the OOC. Build recruiting, build culture, etc.

Well, you get your wish next year: Rhode Island, Central Michigan, South Florida and LSU. That's at worst 3-1, unless we are hopeless.

2016 OOC right now is Colgate, USF and ND. So if we add another MAC-ish opponent you'll get your wish again.

I still think it's amazing we beat Kansas State in the pinstripe bowl in 2010.

Their record since then: 38- 13

It was Snyder's first year back, didn't have his prototypical players in yet (namely on D) so his defense that year was Swiss Cheese (as was ours) (and his hasn't been since), our O was loaded to the gills compared to his, and the game changer really was that absurd fake FG at the end every grandma and pre-Ker knew was coming. One atrocious call away from not amazing you.

Go Orange.
