when you compound long fields with dumb penalties life gets hard. we had too many 3rd and 10+ type plays where they went cover 3 and dropped 5

NC st had the same problem. once they got beyond like 3rd and 5 they had no answers

but since we spend the whole game having to go 80 yds it added up.

we had 2-3 drives in a row where we got 2-3 first downs but then pushed ourselves back and we never flipped the field.

Yeah, this was part of the formula last year. We worked with favorable field position so often.

This season we're the opposite of that.

Speaking of field position, can Syracuse University Football Coaching Staff find someone on the team that is willing and able to catch a punt in the air and run with it. It seems that the current young man in that position either fair catches the punt when he could catch it and run with it or does not run up and fair catch it and then the ball bounces towards Syracuse's goal line and Syracuse starts out on a pretty regular basis 1st & 10 from the Syracuse 10. It also seems that the only time said young man likes to return a punt is against Wagner, Stoney Brook, Holy Cross. Central Connecticut St. or Northernmost Southeastern Western Central Michigan. Also may be a good idea to get someone ready to do it for next year so that individual has some experience.

Field position was a huge problem during the first half.

Not counting the penalty, our average starting position after a punt last night was the 20 yard line.

Gill, T. punt 55 yards to the SU0, touchback, PENALTY SU holding 10 yards to the SU10, 1st and 10, SU ball on SU10.

Gill, T. punt 52 yards to the SU0, touchback.

Gill, T. punt 52 yards to the SU17, downed.

Gill, T. punt 47 yards to the SU28, fair catch by Riley, S..

Gill, T. punt 51 yards to the SU10, fair catch by Riley, S..

Gill, T. punt 36 yards to the SU23, downed.

We held on a punt that went into the end zone. You don't see that often

Riley should fair catch any kickoff at this point. Only bad things happen. There's little to no blocking.

Starting at the 25 is way better than starting at the 10.

And yeah, a hold when NC State is punting from the 50? What? Why??

thank god for the hoffmeister 1st half. 50 + yds and 5 seconds hang pinned them back. real deal.
