Finally Watched The Game Again

A lot of that comes from the heavy blitzing you guys do. Morris kinda mentioned it in his post game. If you are gonna blitz that much you have to have corners who can play man the entire game. Otherwise you have to back off the blitz and give some help over the top or drop some LBers into coverage.

Georgia Tech under John Tanuta used to get burned all the time a few years ago like that. They blitzed almost every single down. Sometimes they did great with that but a lot of times they got burned deep for big plays. There are good things and bad things about heavy blitz defenses. If your secondary is the weak link then blitzing is gonna get them ripped to shreds.
tigerfan, feel free to hang in here as long as you want, appreciate the input...regardless of whats said below.

If you go back and watch the film what made it worse is they zone during a blitz and the corners and safeties get confused as to responsibilities ... I think that is the biggest thing ... I would prefer that if they blitz that they just man up on the outside with Reddish and Whigham and force the QB to make a perfect throw. In situations like that a guy like Boyd will hurt us because he is an elite level QB but he is one of only a few that would burn us repeatedly.

Yep and scheming some receivers and te receptions to loosen things up. Shafer should go back and look at last years O. I for one still think West should be running more inside routes

West should not be running routes at all. Kid doesnt have it. He should only be in on 3rd downs as the slot guy.

tigerfan4life you seem like a kind person but its time to move on... Secondly, I think we will have a lot more success this week blitzing on this QB will will throw some picks, the man problem we have is how much pressure their front gets on hunt and how he handles it.

Sorry but I have been hanging over here talking about football and various other subjects for over a year before we were even scheduled to play. I am not here trying to rub it in if that's what you think. I frequent many college football boards just to talk football in general so don't take it personal if I don't take your advice and "move on".

Cool Kid had the WR's spread out from sideline to sideline creating one on one matchups with better athlete's. Brilliant. Nothing like getting the ball in space to people who are slower, smaller, and not as quick as the guys defending them. Lemon and Sales would have been limited if they had played Saturday as well if used in the same manner. This crap about NO talent is getting old real quick.

Where were the stacked and bunch formations that they were showing at Fanfest? I'm not sure I saw one play action pass Saturday, and it's not like they weren't running the ball.

Is it me, or do these two statements bolded completely contradict each other.

I get your bigger point, there are ways to scheme our WRs to get open, some of it as basic as using play action. But I don't think the majority of OCs are great at pulling it off for 60 minutes with guys who are "slower, smaller, and not as quick as the guys defending them".

Even if McDonald called the game of his life, we were going to get outscored.

Just because your skill guys don't match up well individually with a top 5 programs athletes doesn't mean they have no talent, it means they need some help and need to be put in positions to succeed. You shouldn't go out of your way to create mismatches that disadvantage you.

I think we schemed to get guys open.. Hunt will get better at hopefully hitting the open guy. Allen threw it too much to covered guys. Hunt holds it too long looking for open guys. we need to take what tha D gives a bit more. if they want to play 10 yd cushion then throw it take the 5 yd gain and hope a couple times they miss a tackle. Manning makes a living off hot routes we need to get a few freebies a game.. Boyd made a few throws into good coverage and it worked out because he hit the small window. Hunt is not nearly that accurate.

We'll eventually find out the answer. I get that Clemson's DBs vs our WRs is a mismatch. But to the tune of our guys wearing blankets and only throwing for 52? Little scary. Even NC State and their crappy QB managed to throw for over 200 against them.

There are bad days and there are BAD days. I know that's ultimately going to be our low water mark in the passing game. I'm concerned that our league game high water mark isn't going to be where it needs to be, because I think the position has some real struggles that most of our opponents will be able to exploit.

I think we all knew that McDonald/Lester was going to be a big step down from Marrone/Hackett. And sure enough... Maybe McDonald is in over his head. Kinda seems like you have him on your list, not really sure why. But I think we can both agree that hopefully the WRs he has already recruited are worthy of his reputation as a recruiting guy.

Stick around long enough and you may develop a Stockholm syndrome and become one of us. Don't fight it. Accept Otto as your false idol. It's natural.

IMO the main reason you can tell it's more scheme vs. talent right now is the amount of people around the ball. When Clemson had the ball they had handfuls of plays where there was nobody, or maybe 1 guy within 10 yards. However when we had the ball Clemson had multiple men wherever we decided to go. If anybody wants to torture themselves watch it back and you will see what i am talking about. I don't see how this would have anything to do with talent?

Could not agree more.
