Red had more experience and had the superior position to Gerry on the staff. Only Boeheim believed Gerry was the superior candidate, and while he might have been right, it wasn't his call.

Whether one agrees with DEI or not or whether it had any factor w/ Red being hired, I'm not sure how one can deny that DEI is out there. There's DEI positions on practically every college campus and it unquestionably has affected college/Grad school admissions and some positions on the job market. That can disadvantage certain races and gender.
