Watching the news stories come out, he is clearly more interested in grandstanding and being the news rather than doing his job. Sad he is letting personal ambition interfere with his professional judgement. Guilty or not, the University is paying the price.

stop watching the news and watch the game. this crap will be there tomorrow

Took great pride watching the boys make a come back and chalk up a solid win. That said, damn scroller was exceptionally irritating tonnight!

I don't know that the squabbling between the DA, the polcie department and the mayor has any bearing on who is telling the truth in the Fine case. I think it's the product of a feud that was already simmering.

Totally agree. Hence my comment on grandstanding by the DA's office. This isn't news, has nothing to do with Bernie, and ESPN keeps on letting it scroll across the screen. Everyone needs to take a step back and make sure they get thus right.

Really, really pissing me off that I have to see a "Syracuse" headline much like "Penn State" has a headline, only ours instead of sex scandal news (because there is none) is about a complete tool who needs to get over himself.

Fantastic, I love watching my Syracuse highlights followed by 3 minutes of the DA talking about the Boogeyman and the Easter Bunny invoking cover-up talk on Sportscenter.

That was just bizarre. Does Fitz not understand that this isn't just being picked up by the Scotchman and the Dewitt Times? He looks like a jackasss. And he's embarrassing the city of Syracuse on a national level. Does he really have to go to the media with this?

The Easter Bunny and the Boogeyman? What the hell is he talking about? He looks like a complete clown. Congrats guy, you made sportscenter.

Thought the same thing. I mean the video even looked like something the Taliban or some half-assed bunch of wackos would put out. He's standing there in front of either a) the 1981 Funk & Wagnals collection or b) one of those furniture store bookshelf facades with the plastic books, the video quality looks like it's from the early 70's, etc ,etc Makes the whole of Syracuse look like a joke. But whatever I guess.

I think there may be a misconception out there that Fitzpatrick is looking to gain personal glory by taking the lead finding Bernie guilty or by nailing the SPD for their failure to act in 2002.

That is not going to be the case.

The personal glory and hero-like status that will come from this case will be in exonerating Bernie and exposing the false allegations. Fitzpatrick wants all the files in an attempt to catch up with the police department and beat them to the to the punch in exposing the conspiracy.

I had a bad feeling abut Fitzpatrick, that he was determined to be a part of this thing, no matter what.
The viewing public doesn't give a damn about the local politics of this thing, they just think its a cover-up.
Fitzpatrick went on TV & looked like a red-faced, whiny idiot- but he's trying to come off as the shining white knight,
working to prevent a cover-up(another) by the SPD, & by extension Syracuse University.
He's keeping this story in the headlines, when it really shouldn't be.

I still haven't figured out what SPD supposedly leaked to the PS. Roach gave the interview to the PS and gave the quotes. Was there an article I missed that the PS gave details of testimony? Also, why is he complaining about SPD even talking to the PS. Isn't he the one texting with ESPN?

Which conspiracy?

One thing we all have to keep in mind is that there is nobody in law enforcement that is a bigger SU fan that Fitz.

Roach's comments about making calls to the DA's office & not having them returned, was supposedly "inside info" from the on-going investigation. The PS quoted Roach in their interview with her.
Fitzpatrick is pissed because it appears selectively aimed at embarrassing his office, especially after the SPD said they didn't want info to leak "piecemeal".
He's a blowhard, but he has a point, IMO.

I agree. Unless someone is emotionally tied to the story (< 1% of us) all they think is that a giant cover-up, or mass scale incompetence, is occurring.

Conspiracy wasn't the best word choice. In say conspiracy, I really want to say that Davis, Lang and Roach conspired to blackmail (I think that is the best term) Bernie Fine and Syracuse University with allegations (false) of sexual abuse.

I don't doubt that Fitzpatrick is an SU fan, which is exactly my point. He's not looking to convict Fine or the SPD, I think he wants to be the Knight in shining armor that exposes the false allegations.

At this point, there is no reason to believe there is any truth to the allegations. It's very telling that as Davis and company have to go deeper into making their allegations, the story only become more vague and nonsensical. I think the recent attempt to explain the attempted contact with the police and DA in 2002 highlights this trend. All this stuff about leaving messages, never using names, and calls from the road in Utah simply doesn't pass the smell test.

Did Roach tell the PS that? If so it isn't SPD leaking it.

It is amazing how many missing pieces there are here. Someone needs to do another timeline.

This is a he said, she said deal that is somehow on ESPN. What black eye.

ESPN has to know they royally messed up by airing this story. The pushback is intense and growing everyday. They are going to latch onto any little thing they can to legitimize the airing of this story by OTL. Since there is nothing against Bernie Fine except the increasingly suspect allegations of the superfriends trio, they are going to squeeze every last bit of "potential cover-up" fodder from a DA who references The Booygeyman and Easter Bunny. We, who follow this, know that this is a DA vs SPD quarrel, but the rest of the country doesnt know that. They see a bunch of losers yelling at each other and referencing mythical characters while reading the ESPN crawl and watching Sportscenter. Can someone impose a gag order on these clowns. Noone cares about you, shut up, do your job, stop releasing quotes and videotape that looks like it was filmed by Al-Qaida.

He is a jackass. And an egomanialcal one, at that.

I watched the whole press conference. It was classic Fitz. I thought he made many excellent points that needed to be made.

The problem IMHO is that the full interplay of time, place, and circumstances wasn't taken into account. The Easter Bunny & Boogeyman comments occurred near the end in time & really weren't that bad in context. However, it should not be a shocker that a national news outlet is going to edit 20 minutes of tape down to 30 seconds & do so in a way that's not flattering.

Perhaps a lesson for all of us to remember that less is often more & that when you've eloquently made your point the first time don't try to make it more colorfully in a way that can be selectively edited.

This childish attention seeking behavior and behind the scenes politics has to end. Both sides need to get over these games; this is a very serious issues that needs to be addressed and investigated.

Unfortunately, this garbage mirrors the gridlock of our national politics.

Neither side here seems interested in doing their individual jobs; just sniping at one another.

didn't think it was possible, but he has entered the realm of irresponsibility and unprofessional conduct previously reserved by only ESPN and Mark Schwarz.

One thing we all have to keep in mind is that there is nobody in law enforcement that is a bigger SU fan that Fitz.

And that the 60-year-old DA who likes his job isn't blinded by "personal ambition" or some quest for higher office. Boeheim's not Paterno and, to mix my metaphors, Fitzpatrick's not Mike Nifong.

That's a real problem with someone who likes to hear his own voice and set down every detail. My personal expression has always been 'Don't dump the whole truckload when a shovel full is enough.'
