I’m not arguing it’s fair that private schools recruit players, I’m saying not allowing players to better themselves is restraint of trade. It simple I have no clue I was just asking questions. "Play better" can only go so far if one team is cherry-picking the best players from the region since they are private, but traditional public schools are "stuck" with the people living in their districts - minus the best players who were cherry-picked by the private school.

Sorry didn’t want to start a fight. Said I was a newbie. What about when BVille was killing everyone in football for years. How about west hill hoops. CBA is a small private school. Who would you have them play? Anyone can go to CBA. If you live in Liverpool or BVille CND you go to those schools or a private school.
Sorry if I offended anyone. Just seemed odd. I get the recruiting deal but those recruits get a better opportunity to continue their career at the next level

You're missing the point.

You say, "Anyone can go to CBA." Exactly. Not anyone can go to the public districts. You have to live witin them. CBA can pull the best from the nearby public districts they have been competing with.

You say, "Maybe those kids should not be afforded that opportunity." Nobody is saying that. They're saying, go play similar prorgrams. It sounds like that is exactly what CBA will be doing. For kids that want to continue their career at the next level, the higher level of competition will be better for them.

Outsider input (I grew up in NJ) but this is exactly what happened with the Catholic high schools in NJ. That is why they all created a super-conference and stopped playing most of the public schools. The issue is in Syracuse seems to be that CBA is more isolated than say, Don Bosco is from Bergen Catholic, St. Joe's, Paramus Catholic, etc. are. There is a prep school league in the Princeton area, and another strong catholic league near the shore. Not at the first level, but there are tiers now. It's a microcosm of what's happening in NCAA with the P2 separating from the "other two"

Related to an extent but not. When I moved out to the Utica area, strong academics and strong athletics is why I chose to move to New Hartford for my kids.

Sure I could have found more bang for my buck in some other local districts - it was the academic and athletic program strengths that made New Hartford a no brainer for me.

Public schools have no tuition so CBA offering some tuition discounts is not an “advantage “. Overall, tuition is a disadvantage. The education and network CBA has is an advantage.

I think education advantage is relative, compared with the city of Syracuse yes, compared to some of the other districts it’s minimal or even. It’s an excellent school no doubt.

How about let all public schools recruit from other districts and charge tuition for those recruits.

I know of one athlete who’s parents rented an apartment (didn’t live there) so their daughter could go to a school outside their district. Their first attempt was to try to pay tuition but the school district refused. I know of one other who lived in a district they didn’t like but had a vacation home they used as an address to get into the district of the vacation home.

Both girls play basketball and I can say none of the girls on the team were recruited and certainly not for sports. Most have been in the school since a young age. They actually won their Section this year. First time ever. Because they were in the section finals the last 2 years, the section will force them to play Class C next year due to a rule that they apply only to private schools. In Class C, they won’t be competitive. After next year’s graduation class leaves, they will have very little talent remaining no matter the Class assigned.

Yes. Everyone focuses on football at CBA, but the other sports experience this. They have a strong senior class for softball, for example, win the section, then get bumped up to the next class without having any say in the matter, and get hammered the next year.
