Howard is such a contrast to Joseph. More of a pass first guard. e.

I was thinking the same thing with Cooney as well he can really slow it down in the halfcourt more to Joseph speeding it up. I get the feeling Joseph and Lydon will really value the freethrows this year.

But more and more I see of Howard, this kid is going to play the 1 or be 1 of 2 ball handlers on the court at the same time.

Noticed in the 2nd half that when Joseph and Howard were in the court together, the ball was in Joseph's hands more bringing it up.

Yup, you're right. Kaleb looked confident with his handle too. Still, Howard seems more of the distributor (even though he slashes, can shoot the ball). And I think KJ's role suits him better right now. Seems to get a better selection, hitting his open looks and taking it into the paint when it's there. Can be one of our top 3 in scoring this year.

Kind of nice knowing we got Gbinije Cooney Roberson Joseph Malachi all pushing double digits.
Lydon, Coleman Howard fighting to push closer to 7-8 instead of 4-5 as a basement.

Saw Trevor after the game with his left hand/wrist iced...

Funny you say that. During the Lemoyne game he was favoring his hand and they were looking at it on the bench.

Still worried about our rebounding. Florida Southern out rebounded us. We made it up in steals (19 vs 8) though but hope it doesn't end up being our achilles heel.

My daughter and I had a grand opportunity to watch the game from courtside thanks to the incredible generosity of CTO. It was a great day in many respects. I've been an SU fan since 1973 and have never seen a game that upfront and personal. It's an experience I won't soon forget. There was what I thought was a pretty good crowd and most stayed till close to the end. That was nice to see. We got there early, watched the players shooting & stretching, were able to get autographs from most of the players, and got a wonderful perspective on the speed of the game at the players' level. These guys are really, really, really, really, really good.

Malachi, Tyler, and Franklin don't look much like freshmen. Malachi especially looked motivated and focused but loved watching them all. There are great things to come from that group. Kaleb looked great and think he's comfortable with not having so much pressure on him. He shot well and was fired up when he was in the game. Trevor and silent G will be on the hook to keep the rest of the team calm and played with intensity. Roberson will be a force. Coleman looks good but is still a work in progress. I hope he has a good and healthy year. At times, the team clearly was feeding the ball to him and wanted him to exert himself inside, with mixed success. Folks have said JB was grouchy but I think he just looked tired with more on his mind than the game. All in all, the game gave me optimism that we have the makings of a very good team with the inside game the only real concern. This year will be a challenge for JB but think we'll score points. The young guys play better defense than I expected though physical teams may give us problems, especially inside. Chino's development will be very important to our success.

I was so pleased to share the day with my daughter, a William & Mary alumnus, who worked in Williamsburg till 5 PM on Saturday and works again today at 1 PM. She drove 18 hours over two days to go to a Syracuse basketball exhibition game and was thrilled throughout. She also traveled with me to the UVA football game a few weeks ago. She's becoming a pretty damn good SU fan and she's never lived in CNY. She returned home last nite with a Syracuse basketball signed by I think all of the team. Kudos to you Rachel. Joyce, thanks so much for the superb opportunity. It will be treasured...

Dear Shenexon, what a great post! At any other game I would have tried to find you had I known, but my husband's brother was in town, so I had to "get in, get game, get out." So great to have these experiences with your daughter, which I appreciate since I have the same with mine.

There have been a fair number of worried posters after the first two games, and I do understand that we have weaknesses. But attending these first two games in person, you can't help but feel the enjoyment and confidence this group feels playing together, and it actually feels like we have depth which I wasn't expecting. Even though mistakes were made (some of them funny, like DaJuan throwing the ball into the stands), there wasn't anything to cause alarm bells to wildly clang. Last year there was a real feeling of strain in the team that I don't see this year. Yes, I know, it may come. As my mother liked to say, "Some day, but not today."

Gary and I thought Trevor was hurt, so I was interested in your comment about his hand. Hope it's nothing much. I also felt irritated by how FS was dangerously fouling our guys. Come on, it's an exhibition! It's one thing to be feisty, it's another to be reckless. (Perhaps our guys were doing the same thing but I didn't see it.) As I said to Gary, "Why can't Florida just take their beating like gentlemen?"

Since my brother-in-law was visiting, the Louisville game was way in a corner of my consciousness. I am sad that we lost, and I haven't even visited the football side yet. Maybe I won't. Are you going to the football game this Saturday? Gary and I will be there. Come by to talk!

I looked for you in the crowd and thought about sending you a message but not until it was too late. Rachel got into Binghamton at 5 AM and we left for the game at 10:30. She drove back to Virginia after the game so our time was limited. She has a job now and admire her making that drive over a single day off. Any yes, I will be at the Clemson game. I'll stop by to chat.

Awesome post. I just kinda wish you had created a new thread. I don't want it to get lost in the game thread and have people miss it.
