You would think there were more performance requirements. However, without actually reviewing the contracts, the buyout clauses are, perhaps, the best way to gauge the school's rights. That said, time and again, we have seen coaches coast when they have a fat contract with a hefty buyout and cannot produce greater results (Jimbo Fisher?).
It appears that FSU has a similar prospect with Norvell, he's doing less than Fisher did with TAMU. Large buyouts help to protect a team from poaching a great coach but completely hamstrings a team with a bad coach. Not that it is always bad, right Shady?
I bet we start seeing coaching performance clauses and less guaranteed money.
