Duke Jupiter?Duke who?
Duke Jupiter?Duke who?
Holy crap, haven’t heard that name in decadesDuke Jupiter?
Honestly, college football needs to clean this up for next year. The major conferences need a rule, $1MM fine to a school that attempts to plant their flag at a visiting school. It happened three times today, enough with the clown show nonsense after games.
Schools will stop it if they are financially incentivized to do so. That’s the only way it will stop, clearly sportsmanship is dead so stop trying to rely on a concept that doesn’t exist anymore.
How about win the game so the other school doesn't try and plant their flag
So…go ahead and let the visiting team plant their flag on your field if they win? No biggie?
Is your suggested solution really that stupid? You really want to stick with that?
Wow…Yes
Yes
Have to disagree. You don't want your rival to plant their flag, you should beat them. Home teams initiating brawls over something that's ultimately meaningless and that no one will remember in a couple hours needs to be fined to death.Honestly, college football needs to clean this up for next year. It is an inanimate object on a piece of turf. So…go ahead and let the visiting team plant their flag on your field if they win? No biggie?
Yeah teams need to suck it up. You had 4 quarters to fight and decide to show some fight after the game. Nah the winning team deserves some celebration. Win the game and it's not a big deal. I do think it's a little classless way to celebrate but at end of the day it's really not worth having a brawl over. Especially when your team allowed it to happen by playing crappy football
Ban flags.Just to expand on this, college football really has three options:
1) Fine schools if they attempt to plant a flag on a visiting team’s field.
2) Fine schools if they lost and start a brawl when the winning team tries to plant a flag on their field.
3). Have brawls repeat which are an embarrassment to the sport, will lead to jokes like “I went to a fight and a college football rivalry game broke out”…and do nothing.
You already ruled out #1 - so which of the other two incredibly bad options do you think is the optimal one?
Please please please please please pick #2….
Dang. Big John stuck that flag in our hearts. It still hurts.Different sport but, back in the day if Georgetown beat us in a big game, and then tried to plant their "flag" at midcourt...I'd expect our players to not let it happen. That's not "celebrating", its flat out disrespect.
It's one thing for Big John Thompson to declare "Manley Field House is officially closed", it's quite another for opposing team's players to rub your face in it, after a heated battle, on your home court, in front of your fans, like you ain't worth the respect.
It absolutely should be banned and heavily fined, because it'll trigger more fights as long as it keeps happening.. JMHO
There were three of these flag planting incidents leading to brawls this weekend. Other games had fights as well. Fine the instigating school and ban them from post season play. Actions should have consequences.
