they are second in the country in yards per play. they're 111th in actual plays. (1 play 80 yard drives will do that)

we're going to go in there running a fast offense giving them more plays.

if florida state ran same number of plays as baylor, they'd be averaging 650 yards per game.

if they ran as many plays as BYU, they'd have 735 yards per game. (not really possible to do that, BYU goes down the field in tiny chunks, they "only" get 511 yards per game)

their defense is really good too and gives them shorter fields than baylor gets. but on a per play basis, florida state is as close as you're going to get to baylor

i'm getting ready to completely detach myself and just marvel at the destruction. i'll gladly take part in the inevitable meltdowns because meltdowns are hilarious.

can we scrap going up tempo for a game? i'm fine with 20 or so delay of games. just keep that clock running

I'm not sure there will be a meltdown after that one. There would have to be expectations that were not met for that to transpire.

FSU also plays a bit more of a gentlemans game and appear to take their foot off the gas when they get up 35+ instead of pumping box score stats. IIRC they punted on 4th and short from around NC State's 40. Was a bit shocked to see it but hats off to them as they were up 35-0 or 42-0 at that point and 98% wouldve converted for the 1st down.

FSU first downs or Syracuse points in 3 weeks? Which will be more?

That's been my thinking too. Is just try to run, run, run. Rather than win, here are some modest goals:

Jerome gets 100 yards vs #2/3 team in the country

Dixon does what he does and Coker de-cleats someone (don't care about a penalty)

We throw under 4 int, because we only throw the ball 3 times

We sack Winston 6-7 times (the other times he'll beat the rush and score TD's, but it will be fun)

Want to see the FL kids do well in their home state (Estime anyone?)

Bromley wins his matchup and gets double teamed

That is why I was surprised when people thought Clemson would win. FSU is dominating in every phase of the game.

I hate it, but SU is going to play the role of a baby seal in that game.

That's tricky because long scoring plays won't register first downs. They could have 49 points and only 10 first downs at half time and we may get some garbage points late.

we match up great with them-;)

There are maybe three teams in the country that match up well with them. It's a pretty limited set, maybe you missed it but they hung 51 on the #8 team in the country on the road.

post fsu game, board meltdown topics:

- i expected to lose, just not like this
- i didnt see 70-0 coming
- 4th blowout of the year
- 4 in a row or 2 of the last 3 are Ls, or whatever
- SS, GMC and Bullyboy < grobby grob and the no win bunch
- marrone
- is hunts rating really 24?
- hunt helps the run game, but stared down the receiver on his 1st 4 INTs, and vastly overthrew on the other 3. when will this stop??!
- is the pitt game on tv?
- now i really dont want to go to the bc game over thanks weekend

And that's fine. I mean it will probably make this board go crazy on gameday, but what's new. This is a legit Top 5 team at worst, possibly the best team in the country. And we have to travel to their stadium which is traditionally one of the tougher places in the country to play.

The real key is how we react that next week in a very important, and winnable home game, against Pitt.

so- this is the 1 game cb gets right:rolling:

Is FSU the best team we will have ever played? 91 or 01 miami. Tennessee won a NC but they were lucky all year. FSU 2013 > VT 2001 , I think.

people have better memories for this stuff than me, help me out

The '01 Miami team best team ever. '99 VT was excellent. This FSU team might be up there.

I'd say 2001 Miami. 1992 Miami was steamrolled by Alabama in the national title game.

You're thinking 1999 VT. But they lost the national title as well.

2001 Miami went coast to coast. They had a couple scares that year (@ VT, @ BC), but I wouldn't put that on the same good fortune that 1998 Tennessee had. Not often that a QB, when running the clock out, just sets the ball on the ground. I hope Clint Stoerner at least made enough $ to retire on.

There are Penn State teams in the 80s that are before my time of really paying attention to SU that could probably have an argument.

If FSU joins the 2001 Miami discussion, they have to run the table, and can't be squeezed out of the national title game.

i thought the stat book says you get credit for a 1st down when you have a scoring play?

that sh!tfit was me walking out of the stadium and throwing my program in the trash when he punted down 42-0 on their side of the field against GT. thought my head was going to explode. Ga Tech fans seemed to get a good laugh from it though.

2001 VT best 4 loss team ever. came within 2 tds of winning the gator bowl. they were a team for the ages

2001 VT lost to us at Lane Stadium by 8.

2001 VT lost to Miami at Lane Stadium by 2.

So we were better than 2001 Miami. It's all right there in simple math.

The '01 Miami team is better. Some think it's the best of all time. The roster is sick.

Per wikipedia:

Roster: Clinton Portis
, Willis McGahee, and Frank Gore; tight end Jeremy Shockey; wide receiver Andre Johnson; tackles Bryant McKinnie; defensive lineman Vince Wilfork; linebacker Jonathan Vilma; and defensive back Ed Reed (there are some other big names that didn't contribute that much in '01). Overall, 38 members of the team would be selected in the NFL Draft. As of 2012, they had earned an astonishing 41 trips to the Pro Bowl.

The score at half against Nebraska was 34-0. They beat #12 Washington the week after playing SU 65-7. They hung 49 on FSU on the road.
