For anyone looking to pick up Duke tickets today

Don't agree at all. Just look at this thread and the other and the number of people saying they aren't paying for crappy seats. But it doesn't matter cause it didn't get moved.

If people aren't paying for crappy seats as you say, how exactly have they sold out a 35k seat venue in about 2 days? Its your right to use anecdotal evidence from this board, but the facts are the facts. The demand for this game is through the damn Dome roof.

The seats wouldn't be obstructed. It would like watching football game where everyone punts - a Millhouse special.

All sorts of people who haven't been there in ages would've returned. But we'll never know.

Going to be a record year for attendance at the carrier dome. We are primed for about 5 games 30k plus. Another gem for recruiting.

Because they allowed 8 per. Now a lot of those seats are, or will be, for sale. You think the tix sold are all going to be used by the buyer? It's not at 35 either. Also SU has held back a number of them. Those are the facts.

SU has held back no good seats.

What you always clamored for was and still is going to happen - everyone going back from the rest of the country for this game.

Ok, its 33k+. You're nitpicking. By the way, the game is in 4 months. This is ridiculous demand.

Last year during the alumni presale we were able get tickets well inside the main bowl for Georgetown. Obviously not the case this year. Even though season ticket holders are buying up a ton, the demand is just amazing.

Season tickets are still available in the corners in the 300 level ($480 per, no donation) Looks to be at least 300 left according to the Ticketmaster site.

Damn, I wish I had gone back through some emails from last week. I didn't realize that since I'm a football season ticket holder that I'd be able to get a crack at them today.

SU has held back good sears at all donation levels and non donor season tixs sections for those that might still buy seasons.

If course there is great demand and it is going to be a ridiculous ticket. I'm only disagreeing with the point that someone said it was an easy 50k sell. There is a loooong way between what is in reality 31-32k right now and 50k.

The seats offered weren't good. All the "good" seats are gone.

These seats haven't even gone to the open market, it's mid October and we've sold in the 30s. If we can do 50K for football games against Minny and Clemson what does the money sport do against the biggest team in the sport?

No sense rehashing but the difference between 35 and 50 is over 600K. No sense arguing but it definitely would have happened.

Absolutely. Wouldn't even be a question.

There are more football fans than basketball. Nature of the beast.

I just checked the site and there are plenty of season tix available. Both preferred and non preferred. All sections and all donation levels.

I'll give people a tip. If you're looking for a good seat to Duke, instead of paying some grossly over priced amount on stubhub, like $4-500 or more, buy a season ticket and sell the other games. Probably get the Duke game for free in the end with a good seat.

Supply and demand. If we had 15k more seats to sell, prices would be cheaper on ticketmaster and stub hub, and therefore, more people would be inclinced to buy. Relatives of mine would love to travel up here for the game but just can't handle the insane resale prices.

I disagree with there being more football fans though. Big difference between six home games and fifteen home games.

That might apply for season tix but for a single game not so much.

I disagree. If there were sixteen MLB games a year, do you think attendance would be much higher? Of course it would be--substantially so, because each game would mean more; the same goes with basketball/football here.

UConn bball vs BC fball. Which gets the bigger crowd?

Don't think that's a fair comparison at all. Let's look at Kentucky, the only school with a higher basketball attendance average than us. Do you honestly think the interest in Kentucky football down there matches the interest in Kentucky basketball?

Last year, 2013, we had the highest total attendance in the nation by 10,572, however, Kentucky averaged 66o more fans per game.

In 2012 the Wildcats averaged 103 more fans per game and SU topped them by 21,758 in total attendance.

2011 Kentucky averaged 1291 more per contest and again we had more total fans by 69,878, however Louisville led the country in total attendance by 35,539.

Here are the NCAA stats going back to 1976.

Could 2014 be the year we wrestle back the crown?

With the way these pre-sales are going it is a distinct possibility.

We had quite a run starting in 1985 and going through 1995 as being the nations leader. After eleven years on top Kentucky unseated us. From 1996 to 2000 we were second to the Wildcats. In 2001 we fell to third with UNC sliding into 2nd. In 2002 we slid to 4th. In 2003 & 2004 we reclaimed 2nd place. Finally in 2005, after an absence of nine years, SU once again led the country. For the next two years we were second. In 2008 we went to 3rd, from 2009-2013 we went back to 2nd.

A lot will depend on those seven non-conference games, which include High Point, and how they are attended. High Point?

The past three years, by comparison, we had 10 home non-conference games. So, we should be in great position to be on top of the heap.

No great advantage. I'm a football season ticket holder and the best I could find was section 334 yesterday.

I probably would bought tix if the court was placed in the middle even though the seats really wouldn't have been much better. Just the idea of it.

but why?

One happy side effect is that they build buzz (like this thread, excitedly talking about an historic crowd).

Another is that they'll make some people very happy in December and January as they release 200-ticket chunks on Ticketmaster - people who ordinarily might not buy long-range views will feel like they're getting a deal when the last few rows of, say, 306 are made available.

Someone who knows a little more about the science of ticketing could probably chime in with a better answer.
