Welcome to Forgive Your Foe Friday!

Try to find enough forgiveness in your heart to alleviate the anger, confusion or hatred you may be feeling towards other people or even towards yourself. Anger is dangerous and can lead us to make foolish mistakes. We have seen too many crimes committed by the lack of control of anger. Give it your best effort to try and forgive. For your sake, and for the sake of others. We really must break free of holding grudges. They say that holding a grudge against someone is like drinking poison and waiting for the other person to die.

SU News

Syracuse fans, local media, and the matter of trust (TNIAAM; Keeley)

Real talk: If TNIAAM wrote an article right now breaking the news that Andrew White III has committed to play for the Syracuse Orange next season, would you believe it 100 percent? Would you take us at our word that we had crossed all of our Ts and dotted all of our Is to ensure that there is absolutely no way we could be wrong? Would you put your absolute faith in us that we are a credible source of inside information regarding Syracuse Athletics on par with the reporters are Syracuse.com and The Daily Orange?

Cause I'll be totally honest with you, I don't think I would. And I'm one of the guys who runs this place.

Ultimately, it would be my reputation on the line and I don't think TNIAAM has put in the work necessary to be able to say we have earned that complete trust.

The point is not to say we do a shitty job over here. I like to think we do a good job at what we do. We try to write interesting articles and we try to add a little opinion and insight to the news gathered by others. But we also don't pretend to be something we're not. We're not news-seekers. Except for a beatwriter here and there we don't have people with their ears to the ground. We're not forging relationships with sources inside SU Athletics.

We know we can't do any of that as well as the professionals who do it for a living, so we gladly leave it to them.

And in that way, we hand our trust over to the folks at Syracuse.com, The Post-Standard, The Daily Orange, and local TV stations to do all of that legwork, ask the questions that need to be asked, and find the answers to questions SU fans are asking.

Stepping back in time: Raw Sports releases remastered broadcast of Carlisle's 1988 state basketball championship game (cumberlink.com; Morrow)

Sports fans and even athletes so often relive their greatest moments and games through their own minds that the details change depending on the day or the conversation.

Mike Starling, a local videographer and self-described “Fred Sanford of sports archives,” is providing a chance to set the record straight for all the dedicated fans and athletes.

Legends develop and live forever for a reason, and through hisRawSports.TV website, Starling is making sure we know the stories behind them.

The latest? Billy Owens and the Carlisle Thundering Herd basketball team of the late 1980s.

Starling, known to many as “Big Star,” released late Wednesday night a full 90-minute video of Carlisle’s 1988 PIAA Class AAAA championship victory over Pittsburgh Central Catholic.

Owens, who would go on to star at Syracuse and in the NBA, matched a career high with 53 points (19-of-22 shooting) in the 80-54 victory, which was then a record fourth straight PIAA title for Dave Lebo’s Thundering Herd.

Video of the contest, played March 26 at Hersheypark Arena, was unearthed through broadcaster Dave Burman, who called the game for Carlisle radio station WHYL FM 102. A friend synced the radio call with video of the game, and just this year Burman presented a box of tapes to Starling, including this one.

Starling converted the tape to digital, added his own music and intro, then released it late Wednesday, a day ahead of his 39th birthday.

Never! Georgetown can take a long walk off a short pier. And take UConn with them. ;)
