Welcome to National Trail Mix Day!

National Trail Mix Day features a high energy, tasty treat for the trail or snacks. You can buy packages of trail mix at a store. Or, you can make up your own, using the ingredients you like best.

When you head out to a campout, a hike or to go biking, take the Trail Mix along with you. It provides the extra energy boost to keep you from getting tired and running out of energy along the trail. Don't limit trail mix to the trail. It is also good at campouts.

'Cuse News :: Syracuse Scheduling Oddities (cusenews.sportsblog.com; Ezcuse)

As a lifelong Syracuse fan, I have always been eager to defend the coaches, players, and even athletic department. At least against external attacks. But, internally, there are always the lingering questions. And one of those is who within the athletic department is making the scheduling choices and why are they backwards?

In basketball, Syracuse consistently has recruited highly rated classes. I do not need to go find links, do I? Meanwhile, has anyone EVER considered Syracuse to recruit football at an elite level? When we look at football recruiting, we get excited over 4-star players. Check out this reference to Alabama's depth chart by star rating: http://thebellyofthebeast.net/2016-articles/2016-alabama-crimson-tide-football-depth-chart-two-deep-look-at-all-them-stars-pawl.html. Is there any doubt as to why Alabama is in the playoff discussion ever year. Stars do matter. We know that because our basketball team is usually pretty good, while our football is usually not nearly as good as the teams that recruit better players.

So, knowing that our hoops team has elite talent and our football team has mediocre talent, what does the athletic department do? It schedules the out-of-conference hoops games as if we had mediocre talent, and schedules the out-of-conference football games as if we had elite talent?

The even WEIRDER thing is that scheduling strength matters far more in basketball than it does in football. If your football teams is a legitimate national title contender, you better have a tough schedule because your schedule will be picked apart. Remember the last year that Syracuse's schedule mattered? 1987. Any other year? Nope. Syracuse has not been in the top 4 very often other than 1959 and 1987 in its history.

The worst case scenario would be that Syracuse would go 12-0 in football and have its schedule keep it out of the playoffs or BCS, right? In 1987, Syracuse went 11-0 and did not play for a title. Despite that snub, we went on to have winning seasons consistently through 2011. Needless to say, we survived that snub. We actually thrived. If this were to happen now, Syracuse would be 13-0... beating Florida State, Louisville, Clemson, and the best team in the Coastal... as well as at least 5 other ACC schools. If we were not in the playoffs, it would be more about injustice than scheduling strength.

Farm animals at NYS Fair: How much for that piglet, chicken or lamb? (photo gallery; PS; Weaver)

A breeding ram (meant to sire lambs for meat) can go for $1,500 or more, according to O’Hare. Breeding rams do their work on the farm for about 2 years. Adult ewes that produce strong lambs stay on the farm for seven to eight years
