National Coquilles Saint Jacques Day is observed annually on May 16th. This day is dedicated to the delicious Coquilles Saint Jacques dish, a dish usually consisting of scallops combined with a mixture of butter, cream, mushrooms and cheese, baked in a scallop shell.

Syracuse basketball offers scholarship to Top 50 2018 recruit Darius Bazley (PS; Waters)
Less than a month after rescinding his commitment to Ohio State, Darius Bazley has picked up a scholarship offer from Syracuse University.
Bazley, a 6-foot-9 forward at Princeton High School in Cincinnati, Ohio, put the news of the Syracuse offer on his Twitter page.

Bazley, who is ranked No. 47 in the 2018 class by ESPN.com, de-committed from Ohio State two weeks ago. On Sunday, his AAU team; Nike MeanStreets, played in the Nike EYBL event in Atlanta against the Albany City Rocks. That allowed Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim to watch Bazley as he watched his son, Buddy, played for the City Rocks. (The NCAA rules allow coaches to watch their children play AAU or high school games even during periods when college coaches aren't permitted to be on the road for recruiting.)
Bazley finished with 16 points and 14 rebounds.
The Syracuse offer came on Monday afternoon.
Bazley fits the profile of the prototypical Syracuse forward. He's a long, rangy forward. He is athletic and moves up and down the court very well. He also possesses a feathery touch on his jump shot.
Bazley told the Columbus Dispatch that he de-committed from Ohio State because he wasn't confident that the Buckeyes program would provide him with a path to the NBA.

ACC spring meetings are the time when the league’s basketball and football coaches come together to discuss the most important, pressing issues surrounding their sport. It’s a time to brainstorm ideas, to propose solutions to problems – a time to be heard.
At least that’s the idea. North Carolina coach Roy Williams likely has all sorts of thoughts about things he’d like to see happen in the ACC. He’s not a fan, for instance, of playing several Saturday-Monday games. Sometimes other scheduling quirks leave him frustrated.
This is the time, during these spring meetings, when he could push for change. Instead, years and years of attending these sorts of events – times when coaches sit around and talk – have left him a little cynical.
“Well, we talk,” he said here on Monday, the first day of the ACC’s spring meetings, which conclude on Thursday. “It doesn’t make any difference. This is a worthless, waste of nothing.”

An offseason marked by so many losses has ended with two major additions that have Duke primed to challenge for the ACC championship once again.
After adding four-star small forward Jordan Tucker on Saturday, Duke secured a commitment from five-star point guard Trevon Duval Monday morning.
The additions of those two freshmen, who are expected to be starters when the new season begins in November, help soothe the loss of eight players from last season’s ACC championship team.
The 6-8, 205-pound Tucker steps into the role filled last season by Jayson Tatum, who after averaging 16.8 points as a freshman is projected to be a top-five pick in next month’s NBA draft. Duke heavily recruited five-star small forward Kevin Knox, only to see the 6-8 superstar pick Kentucky instead. But , the Blue Devils quickly pivoted to Tucker and filled their need for a high-scoring wing.

It keeps going up: Lake Ontario water levels highest in nearly a century (PS; Figura)
Lake Ontario's water level is currently higher than it has ever been -- at least since records on it began getting collected nearly a century ago.
"Lake Ontario's level was at 75.84 meters (248.8 feet) Sunday, which is above the highest water level since the US and Canada began keeping coordinated records in 1918," according to Frank Bevacqua, spokesman for the international Joint Commission, which controls the lake's water level.
"The previous record was 75.82 meters (248.75 feet) in June 1952," he said.
The International Joint Commission is using Plan 2014, which was put in place earlier this year, as its guideline for determining what the lake's level should be, using water releases from the Moses-Saunders dam on the St. Lawrence River in Massina to control the lake's level.
However, that's a balancing act. The IJC must also consider the impact of water releases -- specifically how they impact communities downstream from the dam, particularly Montreal.
"The level of Lake St. Louis, the part of the St. Lawrence River where it is joined by the Ottawa River at Montreal, is 22.50 meters (73.8 feet), which is also a record high," Bevacqua said. "However, drier conditions and declining flows in the Ottawa River have facilitated increases in Lake Ontario outflows, from 7,700 cubic meters per second yesterday (271,900 cubic feet per second) to 8,500 cubic meters per second (300,200 cubic feet per second) today."
