Welcome to Different Colored Eyes Day!

National Different Colored Eyes Day is observed annually on July 12th. There are many people out there that have two different colored eyes, and this is their day to celebrate!

Having two different colored eyes is a condition called Heterochromia. There are three types of Heterochromia:

  • Complete heterochromia – one iris is a different color from the other.
  • Partial heterochromia or sectoral heterochromia – part of one iris is a different color from the rest of the iris.
  • Central heterochromia – an inner ring is a different color than the rest of the iris.
The concentration and distribution of melanin are what determines the eye color, specifically the color of the irises. The affected eye may be hyperpigmented (hyperchromic) or hypopigmented (hypochromic). The excess of melanin indicates hyperplasia of the iris tissues, whereas a lack of melanin indicate hypoplasia.

NBA Summer League: Chris McCullough plays, James Southerland sits (PS; Ditota)

Chris McCullough had an uneventful night in the NBA Summer League on Tuesday.

The former Syracuse forward played 18 minutes in the Washington Wizards' 82-73 loss to the Chicago Bulls in the Las Vegas Summer League. He was 2-for-6 overall and missed his only 3-point shot. His plus-minus (minus-15) was the worst on his team Tuesday.

McCullough also grabbed five rebounds in the game. He has been a Wizards' starter in the Vegas Summer League.

In the only other game to potentially feature a Syracuse player, James Southerland did not play in Utah's 84-81 loss to the Grizzlies.

The Las Vegas Summer League playoffs begin Wednesday.

How ESPN analyst Jay Bilas became the NCAA’s loudest critic (newsobserver.com; Tucker)

Unsurprisingly, Jay Bilas, the NCAA’s foremost critic, does not have much confidence in the steps the organization is taking to evaluate transfer rules.

After a wave of criticism surrounding transfer restrictions on athletes, most notably on North Carolina guard Cameron Johnson’s transfer from Pittsburgh, the Division I Council Transfer Working Group met last month to think of how to “create the best outcomes for both student-athletes and schools involved,” according to the NCAA.

Bilas, an ESPN college basketball analyst, attorney and former Duke basketball player, thinks only half of that statement is true.

“I don’t think it’ll be different based upon what’s in the best interest of the athlete. I think it’ll be based upon what’s in the best interest of the schools,” Bilas said. “This is about assets, and they want to retain their assets, which really screams that the players are employees.”

Bilas has never been shy about advocating for players to be paid and treated like employees, frequently using his Twitter accountwith nearly 2 million followers to expose what he sees as NCAA hypocrisy.

“I can’t tell you how many people reach out to me, whether they’re Division II, Division III, and they tell me these horror stories about how they’re treated when they want to transfer,” Bilas said. “Somehow, there’s a narrative out there that the players are the bad guy because they’re impatient.”

Un-Official beer for every ACC school (nsjonline.com; Smith)

Over the last few years, the ACC has slowly allowed taps to flow at several large events and stadiums across the east coast. Several ACC schools sell and serve alcohol, but only Wake Forest allows beer sales at sporting events in North Carolina.

There’s a lot of money to be made in beer and wine sales at ACC sporting events, but some schools aren’t allowed to get on board due to state legislation. But that’s not entirely the point of this article.

What we aimed to do was look at the future for the ACC and figure out what exactly would be the perfect beer for each program. Sure, some schools like Miami, Syracuse, Louisville and Florida State already have the luxury of beer and wine at games, but they don’t have an official beer.

Whether it’s the proximity to the brewery, the name of the beer or a pre-established relationship between the two, we broke down every ACC program’s official brew. Here’s a look at every school’s unique beer with some help from fellow ACC beat writers.

Syracuse: Natty Greene’s Buckshot

Located in the heart of Greensboro, N.C., Natty Greene’s Buckshot is perfect for the Orange. With a smooth taste that includes notes of toffee and caramel, Jim Boeheim will fall in love with the beer when he visits in 2020 for the ACC Tournament.

ODU is Conference USA's financial juggernaut, and it's not close. But oh the Power 5 ... (pilotonline.com; Minium)

There was good news for Old Dominion fans in USA Today’s newly released athletic financial database: The Monarchs remain the financial juggernaut of Conference USA, boasting the largest budget and raking in the most revenue in the league in 2015-2016.

And it wasn’t close.

ODU’s $44 million budget was nearly $10 million more than No. 2 North Texas and nearly twice the $23.1 million spent by Louisiana Tech. ODU had a surplus of about $700,000 and paid its coaches far more and generated more ticket revenue than anyone else in the league.

Clearly, the Monarchs have the necessary resources to compete within their league.

But competing with the likes of the ACC, SEC, Big Ten and other Power 5 schools is another matter. The database once again demonstrated that the disparity between the haves and have-nots is growing at an alarming rate.

The Power 5 are like Amazon, gorging themselves on ever larger shares of revenue, while mid-major leagues fall further behind.

If left unchecked – and I see no way to get the genie back in the bottle – this could have major consequences for college athletics as we know it. With ever-growing piles of cash, the Power 5 may eventually want to pay their athletes, and they’d have to leave the NCAA to do that.

That means goodbye to March Madness as we know it, to a George Mason or VCU in the Final Four, or Coastal Carolina winning the NCAA baseball title.

PSY's 'Gangnam Style' no longer most-viewed YouTube video of all time (PS; AP)

Move over, "Gangnam Style." YouTube has a new top-viewed video of all time.

Wiz Khalifa's video for "See You Again" featuring Charlie Puth became the site's most-watched video Monday and has more than 2.896 billion views as of Tuesday. That's about 2 million more than the video for Korean rapper PSY's 2012 smash "Gangnam Style," which held the most-viewed title for five years, YouTube said.

Justin Bieber's "Sorry" sits in third place, more than 250 million views behind the leaders.

Puth reacted with surprise on Twitter, noting that he joined YouTube in 2007 hoping to make a video that would hit 10,000 views. Puth also earned a congratulatory message from YouTube star Tyler Oakley, who called the feat "legendary & epic."

Wiz Khalifa said in a statement that he's happy the song has been able to "inspire and impact so many lives."

"See You Again" was released in 2015 as a tribute to late "Fast and the Furious" star Paul Walker.
