All-time leading scorers for each conference: Lawrence Moten in elite company (PS; Waters)

Lawrence Moten is not only the all-time leading scorer in Syracuse University history, the former Orange great is also the Big East's career scoring leader.

Moten scored 2,334 points in his Syracuse career. A few former Big East players, including Boston College's Troy Bell and Seton Hall's Terry Dehere, scored more in their college careers, but none scored more in Big East games than the legendary Poetry In Moten.

>>Lawrence Moten arrived as a curiosity, will now be honored with Syracuse legends

Moten scored 1,405 points in Big East play. That's the record officially recognized by the Big East Conference. Dehere had held the record prior to Moten and former St. John's great Malik Sealy held it before Dehere.

Currently, Xavier's Trevon Bluiett is the Big East's active leader with approximately 2,165 career points and 894 in Big East games.

Here is a look at the career scoring leaders in other conference's from around the country (Note: Most conferences use career numbers instead of conference games only):

Two Syracuse Basketball players named to All-ACC Academic squad (itlh.com; Adler)

Some nice news out of the Atlantic Coast Conference office, as a pair of Syracuse basketball studs is included on the All-ACC Academic outfit.

I absolutely adore the SU hoops program. Always have, and always will.

Cheering for my boys when they excel on the court is one thing, but, when they kick butt in the classroom, I’m even more ecstatic.

The Atlantic Coast Conference office on Wednesday announced its 2018 All-ACC Academic unit, and you’ll find two familiar faces on the list of accomplished competitors.

Sophomore wing Tyus Battle and freshman forward Marek Dolezaj are among the 30 guys receiving this honor, according to the ACC office’s press release.

Battle, I might add, got named to the All-ACC Academic crew during the last stanza, along with a duo of other ‘Cuse standouts, sophomore Tyler Lydon and graduate transfer Andrew White III.

Round 2 of UNC-Duke rivalry caps ACC regular-season schedule (wtop.com; AP)

A look at the upcoming week around the Atlantic Coast Conference:

GAME OF THE WEEKEND: No. 9 North Carolina at No. 5 Duke. The regular season comes to a close with the second matchup of the fierce rivals and they’re both coming off losses on last-second baskets. The Tar Heels (22-8, 11-6) — who won the first meeting — lost at home to Miami on Ja’Quan Newton’s long running 3-pointer to beat the buzzer Tuesday. The Blue Devils (24-6, 12-5) are coming off a loss at Virginia Tech on Chris Clarke’s putback with 4.1 seconds left Monday. The winner claims the No. 2 seed at next week’s ACC Tournament in Brooklyn.

LOOKING AHEAD: The ACC Tournament begins Tuesday for the second half of its two-year stay in New York. The first day of three games features seeds 10 through 15. Four games are set for Wednesday, while the quarterfinals begin Thursday with the top four seeds. The championship is Saturday, March 10 — less than 24 hours before the NCAA Tournament field is unveiled.

PLAYER TO WATCH: Preseason Associated Press All-American Bonzie Colson is back for Notre Dame. He missed 15 games with a broken left foot before returning in Wednesday’s win against Pittsburgh , finishing with 12 points and nine rebounds in 21 minutes. Now he gets a matchup with top-ranked Virginia in Saturday’s regular-season finale. Coach Mike Brey had been open about his goal of having the Fighting Irish (18-12, 8-9) simply stay afloat and be at least within range of an NCAA Tournament bid once Colson returned; now the Irish have a couple of chances to make their case with Colson, who helped them win the Maui Invitational and reach No. 5 in the AP Top 25 in November.

Heavy snow already blanketing Upstate NY; much more expected today (PS)

Winter storm hitting as expected
A "high-impact" winter storm is already hammering Upstate New York. By early this morning, nearly 10 inches of snow had fallen in the hills of Cattaraugus Couny, south of Buffalo. The heaviest snow will fall at higher elevations; the Catskills could get 2 feet, and the hills south of Syracuse and in the Southern Tier could see 12 to 18 inches.

Schools are closed across Upstate.
