Welcome to National Sea Monkey Day!

National Sea Monkey Day is observed each year on May 16. Most of us have memories of waiting for our mail order shipment of these magical creatures. The delivery usually contained the small “aquarium-like” hatching kit for them to live and grow in.

Sea Monkeys are a type of “Artemia” (brine shrimp). They earned their name because of their monkey-tail look.

Following the popularity of the ant farms, Harold von Braunhut invented the “Sea Monkeys” and hatching kits in 1957. He did most of his advertising through comic books. He once said, “I think I bought something like 3.2 million pages of comic book advertising a year. It worked beautifully.”

Braswell Signs NLI - Cuse (cuse.com)

Head coach Jim Boeheim has announced that Robert Braswell from Blythewood High School (S.C.) has signed a National Letter of Intent (NLI) to enroll and play basketball at Syracuse.

Braswell, a 6-9 forward, joins Brewster Academy (N.H.) product Buddy Boeheim and Jalen Carey from Immaculate Conception High School in Syracuse's 2018 recruiting class.

Braswell, who was born in Florida, entered Blythewood High School in 2015 after his mother, Akua Clark, was reassigned by the U.S. Navy from Germany to Norfolk, Va.

Blythewood reached the South Carolina Class 5A state championship game in 2017 and advanced to the state semifinals this past season. After averaging 11 points and six rebounds as a junior, he upped his numbers to 16 points and eight boards in his senior campaign. The Bengals were 24-3 in 2017-18. Braswell played for Coach Zeke Washington at Blythewood.

A standout track and field performer at Blythewood, Braswell won the 2017 and 2018 Class 5A high jump title. His most recent victory state championship came after a leap of 6-10.
