Twelve days after announcing his “top six” schools via Twitter, Glens Falls junior Joseph Girard III announced his first official visit.
Girard visited with Jim Boeheim and Syracuse University Thursday night.
Girard has narrowed his 25 NCAA Division I scholarship offers to six with Duke, Michigan, Boston College, Notre Dame, Penn State and Syracuse making the cut.
Prior to his Thursday visit, Girard said he was unsure if he would have time to make any official visits due to his busy summer basketball schedule and his plans to play football with the Indians in August.
Per NCAA rules, Girard is allowed five official visits, meaning the four-star prospect could visit four more schools prior to committing.
Girard’s father, Joe Girard Jr., told The Post-Star that as of Thursday there are no additional official visits planned.

But we also get to read a lot of speculative chatter from all the industry pundits about which programs they fancy before the upcoming stanza commences.
One of the best in the business, Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports and the FanRag Sports Network, earlier this week published his “ACC Offseason Notebook.” It’s an informative piece, and one that includes numerous mentions of Syracuse.
Naturally, we’d like to share the SU tidbits here.
Rothstein wonders how many Atlantic Coast Conference members will make the Big Dance. He notes that nine ACC units have competed in March Madness for each of the past two years – and that is again a reasonable goal for the 2019 NCAA Tournament.
Writes Rothstein, “The ACC currently has seven teams — Duke, Virginia, Virginia Tech, North Carolina, Florida State, Syracuse, and Clemson — in the FRS Preseason Top 25 and four in the Top 10.”
He adds that the league’s depth “is still vastly underrated. Why? Last season, Florida State finished 9-9 in conference play and reached the Elite Eight while Syracuse finished 8-10 in ACC play and advanced all the way to the Sweet 16.”

Former Syracuse point guard Tyler Ennis was waived by the Los Angeles Lakers on Thursday night, the team announced on its website.
Ennis' contract with the Lakers for 2018-19 was not guaranteed, according to the contract website SpoTrac. It would have become guaranteed if he was on the roster on July 5.
Ennis made $1.5 million this year and was slated to make $1.7 million next year. Instead, he will look for an opportunity as a free agent.
As a fifth-year player next year, Ennis would command a minimum salary of $1.7 million. Ennis was picked No. 18 overall in the 2014 NBA Draft and has already played for Phoenix, Milwaukee and Houston.
The backup point guard played in a career-high 54 games with the Lakers this season averaging 12.6 minutes, 4.1 points and 1.9 assists. He received many of his minutes when rookie point guard Lonzo Ball was unavailable. The Lakers also used 20-year-old Brandon Ingram some at point guard.
