Welcome to National Noodle Ring Day!

National Noodle Ring Day is dedicated to a type of noodle dish that is made in a ring mold or Bundt pan. Noodle rings do not appear in many cookbooks today, but there was a time when their recipes were more easily found. A 1936 Pennsylvania Dutch recipe called for noodles to be mixed with flour, eggs, milk, and cheese, and to be put in a mold and baked. This is similar to other noodle ring recipes. Noodle Kugel, a Jewish dish, has similar ingredients, and is popular during Shabbat and Yom Tov. The center of the mold of a noodle ring is often filled. A 1965 Catholic cookbook recommended serving the dish during Lent and filling the middle hole with creamed fish or vegetables. Another popular filling for the center has been creamed chicken. It is unknown who created the day and when they did so, but with the creation of the day, it is certain the noodle ring will live on.

ACC Basketball Power Rankings Weeks 6: Zion, Barrett shine for Duke, Jerome leads UVA over VCU - ACCSports.com (accsports.com; Geisinger)

This is always an interesting part of the college basketball calendar. Teams are dealing with exams as the winter holidays approach. Games are sort of sparse, and the variance in level of opponent is interesting. With conference play less than a month away, let’s take a look at this week’s ACC Basketball Power Rankings.

No. 1 Virginia

After nearly a week off, Virginia looked a little rusty in Sunday’s win over VCU: 0.95 points per possession (35.2 eFG%). It was a quiet game for De’Andre Hunter — 1-of-6 field goal attempts, nine points, no blocks or steals — but Ty Jerome took over down the stretch when UVA needed it. For the season, Jerome has scored 1.5 points per possession (73.7 eFG%) on spot-ups, according to Synergy.

Where Did Saturday Rank In Top Moments in Tyus Battle’s Syracuse Career? – Orange Fizz – Free Syracuse Recruiting News (orangefizz.net; Aki)

Saturday provided no shortage of drama as Syracuse and Georgetown met up for the 94th time. The Orange’s one point edge over the Hoyas came thanks to a Tyus Battle go-ahead jumper with 2.5 seconds left. The junior has had no shortage of moments that has driven head coach Jim Boeheim to say that Battle has “probably [made] as much or more [big shots] than anybody we’ve ever had here in late-game situations.”

From the Clemson buzzer beater to last year’s Georgetown game, Battle has done some pretty spectacular things since coming to campus. So where does Saturday rank in his all-time SU moments?

Syracuse Basketball: Orange re-enters AP top-25 poll with swagger (itlh.cmo; Adler)

The Syracuse basketball squad pulled out a thrilling victory versus Georgetown over the weekend, and now SU is once again ranked.

The SU hoops outfit is on a bit of a roll.

The Orange blasted a solid Northeastern crew about a week ago, then this past Saturday cardiac ‘Cuse took center stage against former Big East Conference foe Georgetown.

Junior wing Tyus Battle nailed a nifty jumper in the waning seconds, and Syracuse snuck by the Hoyas, 72-71, before a boisterous Carrier Dome crowd.

As a result of these two recent successes, SU (7-2) has gotten a nice little reward. The Orange on Monday afternoon found itself back in the AP top-25 poll. The ‘Cuse had previously dropped out of that poll a few weeks ago, when both Connecticut and Oregon conquered Syracuse at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
