Welcome to World Elephant Day!

On August 12, 2012, the inaugural World Elephant Day was launched to bring attention to the urgent plight of Asian and African elephants. The elephant is loved, revered and respected by people and cultures around the world, yet we balance on the brink of seeing the last of this magnificent creature.

The Syracuse basketball squad is one of the premier teams across the country, according to an interesting assortment of new ratings from Ken Pomeroy.
Noted college-hoops statistical guru Ken Pomeroy has put out a new set of rankings, and the Syracuse basketball crew is among the top-20 units nationally. He’s using data dating back to 1997, and the ‘Cuse slots at No. 15 on this list.

However, as Pomeroy explains in a tweet, these ratings don’t necessarily rank the best groups. Rather, this is a collection “of the programs most attractive to a job-shopping coach,” he says. Pomeroy adds on his Web site: “Consider it a guide to how coaches and players might consider the current hierarchy of college basketball when entertaining job or scholarship offers.”
If we’re analyzing SU over the past 22 years, a placement of 15th seems about right. Without question, the Orange has produced some terrific stanzas, including an NCAA championship in 2003, Final Four appearances in 2013 and 2016, a journey to the Elite Eight in 2012, and multiple runs to the Sweet 16.

Per this Syracuse.com article, Pomeroy found that the ‘Cuse has a median rating of 30 while finishing in the top 10 on four occasions, and in the top 25 on 10 instances. SU’s highest ranking, at No. 3, came in 2010, during a season in which the over-achieving Orange attained the No. 1 rating in the AP top-25 poll, secured a No. 1 seed in the Big Dance, and wrapped up this campaign at 30-5 after falling to Butler in the Sweet 16.

Louisville basketball recently revealed the 2019-20 non-conference schedule, and we break down the Cards’ chances of winning each game.
We are less than three months away from the tip-off of Louisville basketball season.

As one of the most heavily-anticipated seasons in program history approaches on the horizon, the Cardinals are beginning to (publicly) finalize the remainder of their schedule.

On Thursday we learned what Louisville’s non-conference schedule will look like, and we are here to provide some reaction, and give a breakdown of the Cards’ chances of winning each game before entering an always-daunting ACC slate.

The non-conference schedule is here. Which game are you most excited for???Cards to face Challenging 2019-20 Schedule - University of Louisville Athletics

Keep in mind that the Cards’ season will open a bit differently from now on. Since the ACC’s partnership with ESPN and the ACC Network, every ACC team will open the season with a conference game.

This year, Louisville starts things out on November 5th at Miami before returning home for 9 out of their 11 conference games.

60-Second NYS Fair: Nobody likes the Reptile Man (PS; video; Croyle)

The New York State Fair is a great place to see some top-notch entertainment.
Each year, the Fair promises a large variety of entertainers, from the latest musical acts and daredevils, to jugglers and acrobats. Even the Midway sideshows are good for a hoot!
All are welcomed to the great end of summer bonanza.

And then there was Edward Tunere, Oswego’s Rattlesnake Man.

A self-trained snake handler, and not a very good one at that, Tunere brought his traveling animal show to the State Fair of 1858.

His performance ended badly and thankfully there “was a doctor in the house.”
He received probably the worst review a Syracuse newspaper has ever given to a State Fair performer.
