Welcome to National Chocolate Milkshake Day!

National Chocolate Milkshake day is dedicated to the chocolate version of the frothy and thick drink, that is usually made with milk, ice cream, and flavored syrup. Milkshakes were first mentioned in print in Britain in 1885, and may have contained whiskey at the time. By the turn of the 20th century, they were seen as being more wholesome, and the alcohol was replaced with syrups such as chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry. Another version of the milk shake, the malted milkshake, was invented in 1887. This shake added malted milk, which consists of a mixture of evaporated milk, wheat flour, and malted barley. Other names for a milkshake include frappé, frosted, thick shake, and cabinet, which is the term used in Rhode Island. Milkshakes have traditionally been sold in many places: malt or soda shops, ice cream shops, diners, fast food restaurants, and other similar type of establishments. Many times milkshakes are made with a blender using a stainless steel cup. As not all of the milkshake always fits in a glass, the stainless steel cup with the extra mixture is brought to the table with a spoon.

Hoops Transfer Parham Granted Immediate Eligibility (ramblinwreck.com)

Georgia Tech guard Bubba Parham, a 5-11 transfer from VMI, has received NCAA approval waiving his required year of residency and will be eligible immediately to compete for the Yellow Jackets, head coach Josh Pastner announced Wednesday. Parham has two seasons of eligibility remaining.
Parham transferred to Tech in June after two standout seasons at VMI in Lexington, Va., where he earned second-team All-South Conference honors in 2018-19 and was named the conference’s Freshman of the Year in 2017-18. He started all 62 games for the Keydets over two seasons, scoring 1,125 points and averaging 18.1 points per game. In two seasons, he connected on 37.2 percent of his three-point field goal tries, making 2.8 per game, and 79.5 percent of his free throw attempts.

“We’re excited to have Bubba in our program and thankful that the NCAA has allowed him the opportunity to play immediately,” said Tech head coach Josh Pastner, in his fourth season on The Flats. “We’re thankful for the time and effort put into this process by our compliance staff. Bubba is a fine young man. He gives us another offensive threat, and he’s a guard who has great speed and outside shooting ability.”

Last season, Parham led the Southern Conference with 21.4 points per game, scoring 30 points or more nine times, the most for a SoCon player since Stephen Curry logged 15 such games in 2008-09. Among those games was a 35-point effort with a school-record 10 three-pointers at Kentucky, and a career-high 41 points with six three-pointers and 17-of-18 performance from the foul line against in the Southern Conference tournament. He led the SoCon with 3.63 three-point field goals per game and made 39.7 percent of his attempts.

UNC Basketball: Tar Heels still in hunt for 5-star recruit (keepingitheel.com; Pearce)

The UNC Basketball program is still in pursuit of one of the top players in the 2020 recruiting class and some analysts are giving them a chance

Cade Cunningham is becoming one of the prized recruits in the 2020 recruiting class, being ranked as a top 3 player for months now. The five-star combo guard has elevated his play since the year started, doing so with impressive showings on the AAU circuit.

With Cunningham raising his stock, the North Carolina Tar Heels were among several teams showing significant interest in him. UNC offered him a few months back and just recently made his top 5 list along with Oklahoma State, Washington, Kentucky and Florida.

Cunningham has scheduled visits for the Fall with a decision coming after that and the possibility of him signing in the early period. But as he goes into his visits, one school has been identified as the favorites among the media.

Oklahoma State appears to be the favorites to land Cunningham as his brother was hired to Mike Boynton’s staff and the head coach has a great relationship with Cade. However, even if the Cowboys are the presumed favorites, don’t rule the Tar Heels out just yet.

In his Wednesday leftovers article on Rivals, analyst Corey Evans wrote on Cunningham’s recruitment and had something interesting to say about the Tar Heels:

Oklahoma State has not backed away from chasing the very best in the 2020 class. Cade Cunningham is priority A, B and C, and while Mike Boynton has a great relationship with him and just hired his brother as an assistant coach, I still don’t think that the five-star is a done deal for OK State. Instead, I will say that it is 50 percent in OSU’s favor, with North Carolina holding a 40-percent chance. Washington is the darkhorse.

Evans wasn’t the only analyst to echo the thoughts that UNC could land Cunningham either.

ESPN Syracuse radio station WTLA (97.7 FM, 1200 AM) has revamped its lineup as the fall sports season gets underway.

The Galaxy-owned radio station launched two new shows in late August: “The Seth Everett Show” featuring Seth Everett and Paulie Scibilia from 10-11 a.m., and “Centers of Attention” with former Syracuse basketball stars Etan Thomas and Danny Schayes from 11 a.m. to noon. Both shows air weekdays in the timeslot previously filled by actor Daniel Baldwin.

Everett, a Syracuse University alumnus who previously worked at ESPN New York, WFAN and Fox Sports, joined ESPN Syracuse last year to host SU football and basketball postgame coverage. He’ll continue hosting postgame shows this season with former Orange quarterback Eric Dungey, who’s finishing up two classes this fall to complete his undergraduate degree.
