Welcome to Bacon Day!
According to the Bacon Day website, the day was created by Danya Goodman and Meff Leonard. They came up with the day as a way to celebrate bacon and The Simpsons. In The Simpsons episode "I Love Lisa," Homer asks, "Is it Bacon Day?" This is how the creators of the day tied the celebration of two things they love together.
So what's the story of bacon? Bacon is a popular treat cut from the meat of a pig. In the United States, bacon refers to meat from the belly of the pig, known as the pork belly. Bacon from the loin is called Canadian bacon. To make bacon, the pork is cured using salt, and is then dried, boiled, or smoked. The smoking of bacon is often done with hickory, mesquite, or maple wood, and flavors such as brown sugar or maple may be added. More often than not, bacon is pan fried, and it is popular as a breakfast food, in sandwiches like the BLT or club sandwich, as a complement to salads, and in wrapping other foods. "Bacon mania" has swept the United States and Canada since the late 1990's, where there has been a great increase in the amount of bacon being eaten, and in the amount of new bacon recipes. The high sodium and nitrate content of bacon that lower its health benefits has not seemed to much slow down the bacon craze.

Jimmy Boeheim has scored Syracuse’s first basket in 10 of 12 games: ‘There’s no plan to do that’ (PS; $; Curtis)
It’s no secret who Syracuse is looking for on its first offensive possession of nearly every game.
Sometimes the play is designed for him. Sometimes it’s not. But somehow, Jimmy Boeheim is usually the first Orange player to score a basket.
Boeheim has scored Syracuse’s first points in 10 of 12 games this season, and in all six home games at the Carrier Dome — the most recent occurring in Wednesday’s 80-68 victory over his former Cornell team.
Less than 10 seconds after the tip, Boeheim sank a floater to give the Orange an early lead. It was just the beginning of a 16-point, seven-rebound performance against the Big Red.
Of his 10 initial scores, seven have been jump hooks or baskets inside the paint. However, the quick buckets aren’t limited to the interior. Boeheim nailed 3-pointers to begin the Orange’s offense in wins against Florida State and Brown.
“A couple of times there have been plays (designed), but a couple of times it just ends up in his hands and he makes a shot,” said Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim. “There’s no plan to do that. It just worked out that way.”
Syracuse held two exhibition games against Pace and Le Moyne before the start of the regular season. Joe Girard scored first against Pace, but Jimmy Boeheim began his streak of six consecutive games of being the first Syracuse player to score against Le Moyne.

Swider, Boeheim brothers spark Syracuse past Cornell (cbssports.com; AP)
Cole Swider scored 21 points, including eight in a row to spark a second-half breakaway, and Syracuse defeated Cornell 80-68 on Wednesday night.
Buddy Boeheim scored 22 points and Jimmy Boeheim, who previously had been a starter for Cornell, added 16 with seven rebounds. The Orange (7-5) shot 57%, making 32 of 57.
Cornell (8-3), ranked second in the nation in scoring at 88.1 points per game, was held to 35% shooting (23 of 65) and struck from deep with 15 3-pointers. Big Red put up a program-record 44 3-point attempts.
Cornell distributed 21 assists on 23 baskets.
Keller Boothby paced Cornell with 20 points with nearly all his scoring from beyond the arc, making 6 of 11. Guy Ragland added 16 points with four 3-pointers.
The New York schools are familiar foes, meeting for the 126th time. Syracuse pushed its win streak in the series to 41 straight.
Syracuse built a 17-2 lead only to see Cornell cut a 13-point gap to 34-29 at the half, making 6 3-pointers in the final seven minutes.
The Big Red stayed close in the early going of the second half before Syracuse broke away to a 60-43 lead with a 16-6 run over five minutes in the middle of the period, sparked by Swider's eight straight points. The Orange were 6-for-7 shooting during the push, making both 3-point tries while Cornell went scoreless for three minutes.

What Does Syracuse Have in Benny Williams? – Orange Fizz – Daily Syracuse Recruiting News & Team Coverage (orangefizz.net; Bonaparte)
Maybe eleven games aren’t enough of a sample size to assess a player’s assets, regardless, Benny Williams hasn’t shown that he’s capable of living up to “32nd overall recruit” status. He was heavily hyped coming in, some believed Williams was a one-and-done talent, we know now that he surely isn’t. No doubt about it, he’s struggling. Let’s take a dive into what Williams has offered to SU basketball:
2020 – Quincy Guerrier, Kadary Richmond, Alan Griffin
2019 – Elijah Hughes, Quincy Guerrier, Jalen Carey
2018 – Tyus Battle, Oshae Brissett, Frank Howard, Elijah Hughes
And so on. Syracuse really hasn’t had a roster like this one before. It’s filled with guys who are advertised as great shooters, average defenders, and lacking athletes. It’s changed the brand of basketball that Jim Boeheim became famous for. Williams is the lone player that still kind of fits the mold of teams SU used to trot out. He’s long, quick, tough, and has a staggering vertical. If he can figure out just what he needs to do on the floor, he could be a great weapon for the Orange.

Syracuse Basketball: 4-star, top-25 prospect is high on the Orange system (itlh; Adler)
Donnie Freeman, a four-star player in the 2024 class, said in a recent interview with a national recruiting analyst that Syracuse basketball is among the college squads that he hears from the most.
While that’s always encouraging to see, the 6-foot-9 power forward is just a sophomore in high school, and his recruitment likely has a long way to go.
So while it’s a positive sign that the Orange coaching staff got involved with Freeman early on, I would imagine many more high-major offers are going to arrive for the sophomore out of St. John’s College High School in Washington, D.C.
‘Cuse coaches offered Freeman at the team’s annual Elite Camp this past August. We recently detailed how the 2024 prospect performed quite well at a prestigious holiday tournament, where he caught the attention of a highly regarded national analyst.

ACC Roundup - Louisville Downs Wake Forest (DBR; King)
In Wednesday's ACC Action, Syracuse knocked off Cornell 80-68, Miami took down NC State 91-83 and Louisville downed Wake Forest 73-69.
Wake and Louisville put on an entertaining show. The Deacs certainly held their own until Louisville pulled away in the closing minutes.
Both teams started raining threes in the last five minutes, hitting three each.
Louisville held Daivien Williamson, who has been so sensational, to 14. Louisville also held Wake to just 38.1 percent and 25.9 percent on threes.
Cole Swider: 8-12. Jimmy Boeheim: 8-12. Buddy Boeheim: 9-16, the slacker. Syracuse won as expected and without much drama. Realistically this was going to be a tough win for Cornell and it just was never very likely.
