Syracuse Basketball: ‘It’s going to be fun if I go there,’ 7-foot-4 center says (itlh; Adler)
Florida State big-man transfer Naheem McLeod took an official visit to Syracuse basketball this past weekend, and he says that the trip to Central New York went well.
The Orange coaching staff hosted McLeod, a 7-foot-4 sophomore center from fellow Atlantic Coast Conference member Florida State, on an official visit last weekend. He previously said that after he entered the NCAA’s transfer portal, Syracuse basketball was one of the first teams to reach out to him.
The ‘Cuse is looking for another center to round out that position group ahead of the 2023-24 campaign. The Orange has three centers on its 2023-24 roster, but they are all inexperienced. And senior center Jesse Edwards transferred to Big 12 Conference squad West Virginia last month.
McLeod is from Philadelphia, a city and metropolitan region that Syracuse basketball coaches often recruit hard. In the 2022-23 stanza for FSU, McLeod played in 28 games, averaging 13.1 minutes, 3.8 points, 2.7 rebounds and 1.2 blocks per contest, while connecting on 54.7 percent from the field but just 40.6 percent from the free-throw line.

In an interview with SyracuseOnSI publisher Mike McAllister, McLeod said his official visit to the ‘Cuse campus went well, as he bonded with Orange coaches as well as Syracuse basketball players.

Brownell rounds out veteran Clemson lineup with Syracuse transfer (P&C; Kornblut)
Joe Girard has spent his college career playing for the Orange. He will complete his career playing in orange. Girard, 6-1, announced on Twitter late Sunday morning he will transfer to Clemson.
He chose the Tigers over LSU and was a four-year standout for Jim Boeheim at Syracuse. He started 123 out of 125 games he played in with the Orange. For his career, he averaged 13 points and 4 assists per game. He’s a career 38 percent shooter from the floor, 36 percent from three, and 86 percent from the foul line.
Last season was his best at Syracuse. Gerard averaged 16 points, 3 rebounds and 3 assists per game.
On Thursday Clemson landed a commitment from UNC-Greensboro graduate transfer Bas Leyte. The 6-10 native of the Netherlands averaged 7.6 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 1.1 assists per game this past season for the Spartans, who finished third in the Southern Conference with an overall record of 20-12. Leyte’s junior season was the most productive of his career at UNCG. In thirty-one games, with 19 starts, he averaged 10.0 points and 6.0 rebounds per game.
Brad Brownell now has four transfers set for the 2023 class. The others are 6-8 Jack Clark of N.C. State and 6-5 Jake Heidbreder of Air Force. 6-7 Asa Thomas of Lake Forest, Iill., rounds out the class. The Tigers currently have their 13 spots filled for the 2023-24 roster.
“Honestly, there were two or three teams I was going to,” Scott said. “Texas was one of them. South Carolina was one. And I believe at the time the other one was Auburn. Those are the three schools that I was really locked in on at that moment. It was a hard tie between South Carolina and Texas. Then, the season went on and coaching changes happened. We were planning on doing a public commitment sometime before AAU and after school ball, but then coaching changes were going on. My parents mentioned the Transfer Portal and seeing where coaches are going to be following the year, so we just waited it out, saw what was going on and saw the changes that were being made.” And with that, Scott and his family reversed their plans and decided to let things play out a little longer.
Scott has an off weekend on the AAU circuit this weekend. There’s an event in Dallas on May 12th and one in Memphis two weeks later. In last weekend’s event in Phoenix, Scott averaged 14 points and 6 rebounds per game. Around his basketball schedule, Scott plans to work in some more official visits. “Me and my family were talking about seeing if we can go out to Oregon,” Scott said. “Seeing if we can get an Alabama visit. Possibly a Florida State visit. With this new rule coming out June 1st where student-athletes are allowed to take as many officials as they can, I might go back and follow up on some of the schools I went to last year including USC.” The Gamecocks, with head coach Lamont Paris leading the way, have been in hot pursuit of Scott. He’s watched closely as Paris has implemented his style of basketball while trying to build a roster that can play in that style.

Rapper Ludacris to perform free concert at NY State Fair (PS; Herbert)
Ludacris will “Get Back” to the New York State Fair this summer.
The hit rapper will perform at the Fair’s Suburban Park stage on Thursday, Aug. 31, at 8 p.m. The concert is free with admission to the NYS Fair.
It will be Luda’s second time at the Fair after drawing more than 30,000 fans to Chevy Court in 2018.
The hip-hop star, whose real name is Chris Bridges, was a radio mainstay in the 2000s with songs like “What’s Your Fantasy,” “Rollout (My Business),” “Saturday (Oooh Oooh),” “Move Bitch,” “Act a Fool,” “Area Codes,” “Money Maker,” “Stand Up,” “Get Back,” “Splash Waterfalls,” and “My Chick Bad.” He also collaborated with big name artists like Justin Bieber (”Baby”), Usher (”Yeah!”), Chingy (”Holidae Inn”), Missy Elliott (”One Minute Man”), Fergie (”Glamorous”), Lil Jon (”Lovers & Friends”) and Taio Cruz (”Break Your Heart”).

6-4 Cam Scott of Lexington has been one of the heaviest recruited prospects in the country going on two years now. His offer list includes South Carolina, Clemson, LSU, Tennessee, Miami, Alabama, Missouri, Oregon, Florida State, Auburn, Pitt, Georgetown, Texas and Kansas. Last year, he narrowed his list to USC, Tennessee, Kansas, Florida State, Auburn and Texas. He also made official visits to USC, Auburn and Texas, and unofficial visits to Duke and Tennessee.
