Welcome to Hot Air Balloon Day!
Hot air balloons are the oldest form of technology to carry humans, with the first human flight taking place in November, 1783 in Paris, France. Prior to humans taking flight, three farm animals, which some sources say were a pig, duck, and rooster, took to the sky in June, 1783. This flight lasted 10 minutes and the balloon went up approximately 6,000 feet. This balloon was created by the Montgolfier brothers out of sackcloth and paper. Hot air balloons consist of an envelope, which is a large balloon-like bag containing heated low-density air which causes the hot air balloon to rise, and a gondola which holds the passengers, as well as the device which creates the hot air that rises into the envelope. The fabric of modern air balloons usually consists of ripstop nylon or polyester. Both leisure and travel have been affected by the hot air balloon, which is why a day exists for it.

Who was the last Syracuse player whose return created as much buzz as Judah Mintz? (PS; $; Waters)
We pushed back Mike’s Mailbox one day to accommodate our coverage of Judah Mintz’s return to Syracuse next season.
The result was several questions pertaining to Mintz and next year’s Orange with Mintz at the helm.
So since we’ve already made you wait an extra day, let’s not waste time. Let’s get to those questions.
Q: Biggest buzz for someone coming back since?

Mike: Judah Mintz’s decision to withdraw his name from the NBA draft and return to Syracuse for his sophomore year was certainly the news Syracuse fans had been waiting and hoping for over these past two months.
Mintz, who led all ACC freshmen last year in points (16.3 per game) and assists (4.6 per game), had gone all-in during the pre-draft process. He played well in the NBA’s combine in Chicago.
Ultimately, though, it appears Mintz and his family weren’t comfortable with the extremely tentative nature of being projected as a mid- to late-second round pick.
I’m trying to remember another Syracuse player who either went through the pre-draft process or strongly considered turning pro before returning to school. I came up with these four former Orangemen.

St. Joe’s Amp ticketholder blindsided by lawn chair policy: ‘I just think it’s crappy’ (PS; Herbert)
Some Central New York concert fans are upset with the lawn chair policy at the St. Joseph’s Health Amphitheater at Lakeview.
ASM Global, which manages the St. Joe’s Amp in Syracuse, said Tuesday the venue won’t allow outside lawn chairs for any concerts with more than 14,000 tickets sold. Capacity is 17,500, so this largely applies to sellouts or nearly sold out shows — including four on this year’s lineup: Chris Stapleton (June 8), Shania Twain (July 8), Phish (July 23) and Zac Brown Band (Aug. 11).
“For the safety, comfort and experience of all fans, the Venue reserves the right to not permit outside lawn chairs from being brought into the venue,” the policy states. “A limited number of lawn chair rentals will be available for advance purchase online or at the venue on the day of the event, while supplies last.”
Darien Lake Amphitheater has a similar rule. Live Nation’s website says Darien Lake will not allow outside lawn chairs for concerts expecting large crowds, such as Post Malone and Fall Out Boy.
But Cindy Maudlin, a North Syracuse resident who has tickets for Stapleton and at least one more St. Joe’s Amp concert this summer, says she was blindsided by the rule.
