The 23 Most Perfect Offenses in the History of College Football (sbnation.com; Connelly)

...
1959 Syracuse
Bud Wilkinson's Split T was particularly unstoppable in 1952 and 1956. In a defensive era, the Sooners were held under 34 points just twice in 1952 and once in 1956. But let's talk about the perfection that was the 1959 Syracuse offense.

Ben Schwartzwalder's Orangemen were in the middle of a nice run -- they finished in the top 10 in both 1956 and 1958 and would go 15-5 in 1960-61 as well -- but 1959 was the pinnacle. Despite a schedule that featured eight of 11 teams finishing .500 or better, Syracuse was steady and phenomenal. The Orange beat Navy, 32-6, then took down Holy Cross and WVU by a combined 86-6. They took on eastern powers Pitt and Penn State back-to-back, both on the road, and scored a combined 55 points in two wins. They emasculated Colgate and Boston University by a combined 117-0. And to finish the regular season, they headed west to UCLA and won, 36-8.

Despite tension and (if you believe the telling in The Express) iffy officiating, The 'Cuse finished the season by putting 23 points on a Texas defense that had allowed just seven points per game to that point.

Sophomore (and future Heisman winner) Ernie Davis was the star of the offense with 686 yards (7 per carry), but Syracuse was powered by remarkable balance. Three players rushed for at least 500 yards, seven more rushed for at least 115 and five finished with at least 100 receiving yards. This offense could do everything and ended up with a national title ring.

SU Spring Football Preview: the OL Starts Over (TNIAAM; Cassillo)

Spring practice enters week two for the Syracuse Orange. And with that, we continue digging into some of the most pressing questions surrounding the team as the Dino Babers era begins.

Today's topic:

The Orange offensive line officially starts over. Can they succeed?

Who's on campus?

Only two-fifths of last year's starting offensive line. Tackle Omari Palmer and centerJason Emerich are the only returning starters from the group, after Ivan Foy, Nick Robinson and Rob Trudo all departed. Replacing the latter three's production is a daunting challenge, sure. But injuries over the past couple years have actually allowed for several players down the depth chart to play valuable snaps, meaning this team's not as green as advertised.

Michael Lasker, Seamus Shanley, Cody Conway, Jamar McGloster and Aaron Roberts are all still around, and all have varying levels of playing time under their respective belts -- including starts for both Lasker and Shanley. They're joined by the rest of Conway's cohorts from the promising 2015 O-line class, all of whom redshirted last year. Evan Adams, Colin Byrne, Sam Clausman and AJ Duerig all came in as promising, high-upside options on the line, and now get their first opportunities in 2016.

Additionally, and not be discounted, Jon Burton, Keaton Darney, Taylor Hindy and Donnie Foster are also in camp this spring.

Ala Carte Cable Starts in Canada (PS; AP)

Can you save money if you pay only for the TV channels you watch?

The question will be put to a real-world test in Canada starting Tuesday.

TV executives in the U.S. and Canada have long argued that the best value for your money comes through packages of hundreds of channels. You might not want every football game or Korean drama, but you can usually find something to watch when you plop down on the couch. When everyone buys a big package of channels, the cost of each is spread thin. Your monthly cable bill reflects that lower per-channel cost, even if you watch just a few channels.

And though you might gripe about paying for all the channels you never watch, the price of each channel could rise a lot if fewer people chose to pay for each one individually. The industry has also resisted offering full choice because overall subscription and advertising revenue could decline. Some channels might not survive at all.

"We don't sell it alone right now because we generate more revenue by being in a larger package," ESPN President John Skipper said at the recent Code Media conference. Asked if the leading sports network would cost too much on its own given the rising cost of sports rights, he replied that was "just a hypothetical and ultimately, specious mathematical problem."

Today, there are more alternatives to traditional TV than ever. Millions of U.S. households have dropped big pay TV packages in the past few years and have turned to online services such as Netflix, Hulu and HBO Now.

Do the Giants see Nassib as a future starter in the NFL? If so, will they potentially still let him walk after next year? — @mibrown

Well, I know the Giants don’t see Ryan Nassib as a future starter for them. That’s Eli Manning’s job for the next four years at least. Nassib’s contract expires after this season and it’s hard to see him wanting to come back and not play for another three years.

That’s why I have a feeling the Giants might consider trading him during the draft. They’d have to find a veteran backup, I think, before doing that. I don’t like the idea of having them waste another mid- or late-round pick on a quarterback who won’t play, either. I know, according to several NFL sources, that the Giants had offers for Nassib in and around last year’s draft. I don’t know if the offers weren’t good enough or if they just weren’t interested, but obviously he wasn’t traded.

I just think they might be open to the possibility of trading him this time around. Otherwise the pick will end up turning into a complete waste.

C'mon - no mention of Lou Reed?

I realize that recruits probably don't know who he is, but then you could probably say the same for Biden. :D
