Welcome to International Moment of Laughter Day!

When was the last time you gave yourself permission to laugh out loud in public? Well, get ready to do it again, because April 14 has been set aside to do just that, according to "America's Humorologist" Izzy Gesell.

To encourage more people to laugh, he invites America and the whole world to join in the fun on April 14, the planet's International Moment of Laughter Day. You can celebrate by:
  • laughing out loud at the funny cards in a greeting card shop
  • calling a friend to share a funny story
  • getting naked, looking in the mirror and laughing
  • buying a "laugh-box" in a joke shop and turning it on at work or at home
  • showing your baby pictures to someone who's never seen them
  • thinking up your own way to get someone else to laugh with you
  • or just laughing for no apparent reason at all

SU Football Recruiting Recap for April (TNIAAM; Cassillo)

The Syracuse Orange haven't gotten a 2017 commitment in awhile, but that doesn't mean recruiting is taking a break. Far from it as Dino Babers's staff hits the trail for its first full class at SU.

Below, we give a quick recap of everything that's gone on in April thus far. Though we're absent of decisions, Babers & Co. are getting themselves into conversations all over the place with the potential to land plenty of talent come summer, as these players head into their senior years.

OLB Nardarius Fagan Lists Syracuse in Top Five

Miami Southridge high school outside linebacker Nardarius Fagan has narrowed his list to five, and expects to make a decision this summer, he told Scout. The three-star product is 6-foot-2 and 190 pounds, with a great quickness on the edge that plays right into what Syracuse wants to do defensively. The Orange were among the five schools he listed as his top considerations yesterday, along with Alabama, LSU, Nebraska and Temple as well. Nick Monroe leads the charge here, as he typically does with Florida prospects.

OG Mike Miranda Narrows List to Eight

Miranda may have more schools to choose from, but his timing appears to be a bit sooner than Fagan's. The three-star Ohio (Stow) guard has things down to eight, but seems to be interested in hearing from other schools in the coming weeks before he makes a final call. He lists Syracuse among the eight, along with Illinois, Missouri, Nebraska, Penn State, Pitt, Northwestern, and Virginia. He told Scout that he'll take second visits to Penn State, Virginia, Illinois and Missouri before deciding, so he can focus on his senior season.

Nope, the 2017 Syracuse OOC Schedule Still Isn't Done (TNIAAM; Cassillo)

Flashback to late January 2016. The Syracuse Orange football program had six primary options available to fill its 2017 schedule. This was problematic at that time. As a group, we hoped it would be resolved in a reasonable amount of time.

Now back to the present. The Syracuse Orange football program has six primary options available to fill its 2017 schedule. Not a goddamn thing has changed, while other teams have gone out there scheduling every year from 2017 through 2032. Syracuse hasn't announced a non-conference series since the Wisconsin news came about.

Why? Or, without that answer, maybe we just go ahead and look at the reasons each of the available teams may or may not end up on the SU schedule.

As a reminder, the Orange are in need of an extra Group of Five game (preferably at home) to go with a yet-to-be-scheduled FCS home game and a road game against LSU. The six candidates for said game: Bowling Green, Coastal Carolina, Florida International, Tulane, UL-Lafayette, UL-Monroe.

Bowling Green
Why they might: Obviously Dino Babers just left BGSU, and both him and his staff still have close ties to the administration over there. Syracuse recruited Ohio pretty heavily when Babers got on the job, so this would be a chance to get right in front of those same kids.

Why they might not: The Falcons need a home game and Syracuse might prefer their own home game in 2017 (in return for a road date later). On top of that, even if the Orange agreed to head to Bowling Green next fall, the return date wouldn't be until 2020 at earliest. Current schedule gaps might call for a sooner return, but it's not also not a deal-breaker.

Coastal Carolina
Why they might: Coastal's still in the process of transitioning to FBS, which makes them an attractive option to pick up a likely win while also counting that W toward bowl eligibility. On top of that, there's plenty of openings in future Chanticleers schedules too as newcomers to football's top level. That could mean multiple dates, and soon -- exactly what Syracuse needs.

Why they might not: It's tough to tell what Coastal Carolina's scheduling tendencies will look like just yet, but they already have two road non-conference games for 2017, which definitely makes it less likely. Also, Syracuse gets exposure to South Carolina recruits (if they were looking for them) by playing Clemson every year, though the Tigers do visit SU in 2017.

Crews Respond to Fire at Old New Venture Gear Plant in Dewitt (PS; Sturtz)

Firefighters were called Wednesday to the former New Process Gear plant for a report of a fire inside a pit in the building.

The East Syracuse Fire Department responded around 3:30 p.m. to the plant at 6600 New Venture Gear Drive in the town of DeWitt.

The fire department said initial reports were that a fire in a pit had spread to offices. Firefighters stretched a hose to the high-rise packs and began fighting the blaze, which was a fire in an old machine pit.

Crews had the fire knocked down in less than an hour.

The plant at 6600 New Venture Gear Drive has been vacant since Magna International Inc. closed it in 2012. The plant, which totals 1.7 million square feet of space, once employed 4,000 people making transmission parts for General Motors and Chrysler vehicles.
