Hooters-Celebrates-National-Chicken-Wing-Day-with-All-You-Can-Eat-Wings.jpg

Welcome to National Chicken Wing Day!

Whether you like them hot and spicy, sticky sweet or plain Jane and whether your prefer them served with blue cheese, plum sauce or celery sticks, chicken wings have to be the most versatile protein on the planet. Americans have been attesting to this fact, gobbling up wings by the boat-load with more than 27 billion eaten in 2013 and 1.23 billion wings consumed during Super Bowl weekend alone. That’s over 100-million pounds of wings. To give you some idea of what that looks like picture the chicken wings laid out end to end -- they’d circle the perimeter of the Earth not once but twice!

Here's a round-up of where to snag free or discounted wings:

  • Buffalo Wild Wings is offering half-priced wings on Friday.
  • Hooters is offering all-you-can-eat traditional wings and boneless wings for $14.99 and $12.99, respectively. However, prices may vary by location.
  • Wingstop is slated to give all customers 5 free classic or boneless wings between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.
  • Purchase wings at East Coast Wings on July 29 and get a coupon for 5 free wings between July 31 and August 4.
  • Get endless wings at P.J. Whelihan's for $14.99 on Friday.
  • Buy 10 wings, get 5 free at WingHouse Bar and Grill locations on National Chicken Wing Day.
  • Get 59 cent wings at Arooga's Grille House and Sports Bar on July 29.

Syracuse Football: Urban Meyer Told Chris Ash to Pick Rutgers Job Over Orange (TNIAAM; Cassillo)

He was never offered and pulled out when it was clear he wasn't going to get the job (because Syracuse was able to get someone better)

And he listened! (maybe thankfully)

You all remember the coaching search last year after Scott Shafer was fired, right? The Syracuse Orange were looking at a few names, and (once Scott Frost went to UCF) the ones that kept popping up were Dino Babers and Chris Ash.

Ash then the Ohio State defensive coordinator, seemed to be a bit out of nowhere. At the time, his name wasn't on any other school's list, though we did see a bit of a link (via Drake lineage) between him and former athletic director Mark Coyle.

As a group, we were a little worried.

Ultimately, it ended up being for naught. Ash would pull out of the running for Syracuse and become the frontrunner at Rutgers, where he'd ultimately get the job. Babers, as you know, is now in charge at SU.

Recruiting Roundup: 2017 TE Aaron Hackett down to Syracuse, USF (the juice; Cheng)

Good luck to former Syracuse offensive lineman Sean Hickey, who just signed with Minnesota! On to today’s recruiting links…

2017 tight end Aaron Hackett from Venice (Fla.) tweeted on Thursday that he is on his way to Syracuse for a visit. He is down to the Orange and USF, reports Bailey.

2018 Middle Village (NY) defensive back Jarrett Paul took a visit to Syracuse on Thursday, and tweeted that he “loved” his visit. He is drawing interest from Penn State, Indiana and Maryland, among others.

Syracuse.com’s Stephen Bailey caught up with 2017 quarterback commit Tommy DeVito, and he sounded off on his friend, 2017 wide receiver Eddie Lewis. “I was told that it was between him and Russell Thompson-Bishop […] He probably was not going to commit because he doesn’t want to be second to anybody.”

Former Syracuse football DT Jay Bromley to open training camp on PUP list for New York Giants (PS; Mink)

An ankle injury is why former Syracuse football defensive tackle Jay Bromley will open training camp with the New York Giants on the physically unable to perform list.

First-year Giants coach Ben McAdoo announced the news to reporters at training camp on Thursday.

DT Damon Harrison (knee swelling) will begin Giants camp on PUP. He'll be joined by LB JT Thomas (hamstring) and DT Jay Bromley (ankle).

— Ralph Vacchiano (@RVacchianoNYDN) July 28, 2016
McAdoo said Bromley's injury was not serious.

The former Syracuse football defensive lineman is entering his third season with the organization that drafted him in the third round of the 2014 NFL Draft.

In two years, Bromley has appeared in 24 games (four starts) and made 41 tackles.

House of the Week: Skaneateles lakefront condo in historic Legg Hall (PS; Blalock)

The antique Springfield Gas Machine in the basement of Legg Hall is one of many artifacts from the building's past lives.

Early Skaneateles resident and former village president Joel Thayer built the building in tribute to his father-in-law, carriage maker John Legg. The space went on to host several businesses, including the Colonial Theater, which closed in 1979.

The building was transformed into 12 condominiums soon after and John "Bud" Costello's two-story corner unit was the largest of the bunch.

Costello, a prominent Syracuse attorney and key player in the development of the St. James Apartments, Centers at St. Camillus and other apartment complexes in Central New York, purchased the condo in 1987. Costello and his wife, Virginia, split their time between Skaneateles and Florida until their deaths in 2015.

Why is the Drumstick Left wing and the Flat Wing the right ? I would think that the practice of breaking down the standard flat wing much less conservative than eating the drummie off the bone. Thoughts?

For those of you in the South East with a local Taco Mac, National Wing Day means that when you order 10 wings that they will give you an extra 10 wings. Bring the Mrs., take some home or pig out. ;)

This is not good. The last stats I could find had SU 31st in college merchandise sales, 6th in the ACC.

Syracuse No. 31 On Collegiate Licensing Company's Top Selling University Brands

They are one of Nike's most valuable hoops schools, one of 7 that got Elite uniform treatment 2 years ago. Brent is right, our Nike deal is a bad one and Wildhack has a chance to make a lot more money. Nike does not play top dollar, and they have done a horrific job with the uniforms they have provided SU for football and basketball. Orange shirts and blue shorts? Saying orange tops weren't available for the only school in college athletics with orange in its name when a number of other Nike schools dos get orange tops. I hope John Wildhack gets Nike to treat SU like a top property, in terms of uniforms provided and money paid. Or switches to another company that will...

Sadly I am up north for the weekend. Poorly planned trip. 20 wings and some great beer would have been enough to stay south.
