Welcome to Kiss Day!

As we celebrate Kiss Day today, in the run-up to the big V-Day, why not update yourself with a little trivia on kissing. Here are some fun facts that could amuse you, or even encourage you to lock those lips ever more passionately.

1. The science of kissing is called philematology.
2. The most important muscle used while kissing is the orbicularis oris. Depending on the kiss, you can use up to 34 facial muscles – a French kiss, for instance.
3. Kissing passionately for 1 minute burns around 26 calories. So make sure you engage in a bit of lip-lock if you’ve had that extra bar of chocolate.
4. Your lips are said to be at least a hundred times more sensitive than your fingertips. It’s even more sensitive than your genitals! Go figure.
5. According to studies, around two-thirds of people tip their head to the right while kissing. It’s said that the preference actually develops in the womb.

Two Syracuse football players arrested for stealing Yeezy boots, computer and PlayStation 4 (DO; Gutierrez)

Two Syracuse football players were arrested for stealing two pairs of “Yeezy” boots, a laptop and a PlayStation 4, according to Sgt. Richard Helterline of the Syracuse Police Department.

Redshirt freshman defensive end Jaquwan Nelson, 19, was charged Thursday with second-degree burglary and fourth-degree grand larceny. Redshirt freshman safety Devon Clarke, 19, was charged Friday with second-degree burglary and fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property.

Nelson and Clarke entered a South Campus residence at 241 Winding Ridge Road and stole the property on Dec. 26, 2016, Helterline said. When reached on his cell phone, Clarke quickly hung up. Syracuse Athletics declined to comment.

Both Nelson and Clarke, Florida natives who have not played for SU, have been released from the Onondaga County Justice Center.

Virginia Tech Hokies

Justin Fuente is still using Frank Beamer’s players, right? Not to take anything away from Frank Beamer, he is still one of the best coaches of all time, but Fuente came in with a winning attitude and turned the Jokies back into Hokies. Here’s the problem, Justin Fuente didn’t have enough attitude this past season. The Hokies went up 14-0 on Tennessee. VaTech lost that game by 21. Against Syracuse, the Hokies were down 17-3 at the half. GaTech was up 20-0 and 30-7 on the Hokies. The only games that Virginia Tech had a shot of winning after falling behind were games against Clemson and Arkansas. Clemson was up 35-14 with 5 minutes left in the third quarter but the Hokies couldn’t get closer than a touchdown. Against Arkansas, the Razorbacks went into the locker-room with a 24-0 halftime lead. Justin Fuente and the Hokies, finally turned the corner. Can they keep that momentum going into the spring and who will be under center? The questions for the Hokies are the easiest to figure out and with a schedule set up for success, VaTech fans might be celebrating a Coastal Division Championship and a 10-win regular season. If the Hokies can beat FSU, an outside shot at the playoffs remain a consideration.

Gone is the talented Jerod Evans, who tallied more total yards from scrimmage than anyone not named Deshaun or Lamar in the ACC. Following his departure either because of graduation, expiration of eligibility or the NFL calling is every single player on the Hokies roster that threw a pass in 2016. Redshirt Freshman Joshua Jackson almost beat out Evans for the starting spot last season but Fuente decided to go with experience over youth and raw talent. With early enrollee Herndon Hooker in classes, the spring battle at QB will be fun to watch in Blacksburg. Travon McMillan returns to the Hokies backfield after leading the team in yards per rush (assuming 50 carries or more) and his 7 touchdowns on the ground were only second to Evans. While the Hokies will also lose Ford and Hodges to the NFL, Virginia Tech returns a good group of young talent at receiver. The Hokies will miss the explosive plays from last season but like FSU, they will be more balanced in the run and pass game.

The best news out of Blacksburg is the defense returns 7 starters which ranked #7 in tackles for loss, #14 in passes intercepted, and 18th in Total Defense. Granted the Hokies will lose 3 of 4 upfront but they will be replaced by a group that played in 37 of 42 possible games. On the backend, Justin Fuente’s group will only lose Chuck Clark at Free Safety. Clark went 14 games without an interception and only had two passes defended. Adonis Alexander will more than likely move into the position as he had a great 2016 campaign with seven passes defended and an interception as a backup. If you’re a fan of the lunch pail gang and Enter Sandman, the 2017 season will be exciting.

Miami Hurricanes

If Mark Richt thought coaching in the SEC was hard, he will soon find out that a program like Miami will be a bit tougher.

Dangerous driving in Central NY today due to heavy snow, high winds (PS; Coin)

It's bad out there.

Strong winds and heavy lake effect snow are making for hazardous driving conditions in Central New York this morning.

"Easily the worst commute I have had coming from northern suburbs this winter," said CBS 5 meteorologist Matt Stevens on Twitter a little after 5 a.m. "Use caution! Blowing & drifting snow, slippery roads."

Lake effect snow is falling at a rate of 1 to 2 inches per hour in Syracuse, TWC News meteorologist Vanessa Richards said on Twitter. "To say travel is tough is an understatement on a morning like this," she wrote.

The snow falling now is lake effect snow, which is lighter and fluffier than the stuff that fell Sunday. Light snow is easier to shovel, but it's also easier for the wind to blow around and cause white-outs.

Winds are about 15 mph at Hancock International Airport; gusts could reach into the 30 mph range. Wind chills are in the teens.

"Near white-out conditions could occur at times," the National Weather Service said. A winter storm warning is in effect for Central New York through 1 p.m., and the weather service expects another 1 to 3 inches of snow today.

Schools across the region have announced closures. National Grid is reporting a few scattered power outages.

That is good because they are actually $645...

For me to pay $645 for a pair of boots, those things better be able to clean my apartment and make me breakfast too.

It's not in Tom's OP this morning but in the Daily Orange there is an article addressing the recommendation that the City of Syracuse and Onondaga County merge.

I for one feel that that would be a good idea.

When Indianapolis merged with Marion County, the city became major league.

Excellent QB for what was probably Ben's last really good team - or at least really successful team on the field - 1967 - with Csonka and Tom Coughlin in the backfield.

The Orange finished 8-2 with a win over UCLA and no bowl game.
