National-Random-Acts-of-Kindness-Day-February-17.jpg

Welcome to Random Acts of Kindness Day!

Random Acts Of Kindness Day was first created in Denver, Colorado in 1995, and nine years later it spread to New Zealand in 2004. Random Acts of Kindness can include just about anything, including something as simple a taking a tray of muffins to work. The idea behind this holiday is to make the world a better place by spreading a little light around. Lift someone up with your words, compliment them on their appearance, all these things can help to really turn around someone who’s having a bad day.

Additionally, research has shown that the very act of doing something for someone else gives us a chemical high, a higher one, in fact, than if something had been done for us. There was a wise man who once shared a concept “Do not think of those who are in need, such as panhandlers, as seeking charity. They are, instead, providing a service. A service that allows you to get your fix of feel good while simultaneously paying someone for providing it.” It may be a bit more open-minded than some people are ready for, but it certainly helps bring things into light!

We had you covered for National Signing Day with over 23 recruits committing to the Syracuse football team. Over the next several weeks we’ll be breaking down each recruit in detail.

But we start off that venture by sitting down with one special recruit who signed the dotted line, Nykeim Johnson.

We decided to ask him some key questions regarding: why he chose Syracuse, his NFL aspirations, and what pro player he’s been compared too. This was by far our best interview out of the round that we did.

A fantastic interview with Johnson, if you’d like you can follow him on Twitter here: @THAREALNJII. Without further adieu lets get to our interview.

There’s never an off day in college football, and Wednesday was another busy day at the office for Syracuse. The Orange gave scholarship offers to a pair of Texas quarterbacks and a linebacker out of Florida.

Tanner Mordecai still has another season of high school football to play, but his offer list has already reached double-digits. The 6-2, 190 pound quarterback has offers from Houston, Baylor, Kansas, Missouri, and SEC offer in Ole Miss, and more. The Orange is the first ACC team to offer Mordecai, who is a three-star prospect according to 247’s composite rankings. He’s listed as the No. 15 dual-threat quarterback in the country. He has a 40-yard dash time of 4.88 listed on his Hudl page, and played in The Opening Regional in Houston in 2016.

More than a dozen actors and filmmakers spent the day shooting scenes in Armory Square for an upcoming Hallmark Channel movie.

Camera operators, actors and production members filmed under blue tents on South Franklin and Walton Streets on Thursday, for a film titled "Old Acquaintance Be Forgot," a line from "Auld Lang Syne."

The movie will star Cassidy Gifford, the daughter of TV host and comedian Kathie Lee Gifford and the late football player and TV commentator Frank Gifford. Most recently, Gifford played Daisy in the 2016 sorority house thriller "Twisted Sisters."

The film crew took a break around 2:30 p.m. to eat and relax in the upstairs area of Kitty Hoynes Irish Pub and Restaurant. They also set up catering in the Milton J. Rubenstein Museum of Science and Technology (The MOST).

The production team was tight-lipped about the film's plot, but one crew member said it takes place during the Christmas season. The film team carried around a bin full of poinsettia plants to place around Armory Square.

Around 5 p.m., an actor dressed as Santa Claus rang a bell in front of Nick's Tomato Pie. Several passersby stopped and watched the scene.

The film crew also shot several scenes in the Syracuse Ukrainian National Home on West Fayette Street on Wednesday.

Shoot - I missed random acts of kindness day. There's always next year I suppose.

^^^ This is not the first time he has been photographed or written about for donating his time...Zack seems like a pretty genuine guy...he gets it...he represents himself, his family and Cuse well...glad HCDB did right by him...he seems deserving from both actions on and off the field...

Zack does a ton of this stuff. When you see pretty much any pics of the team doing community service, he's front and center always.
(and not in the Doc Gross "I must get into every PR picture" sort of way, at all.)

Kid is a good athlete, and a GREAT leader. He will go far in life, and SU is better for having him.

Man ! That Cuse team had some great blockers on that team !
Too bad they played all their games at NFL stadiums. Boy, some things never change! Give up the revenue for Syracuse just so we can play in the fertile recruiting grounds of Ohio.
