Welcome to ACC Tournament Judgement Day!

Michael Young scored 17 points and fellow senior Jamel Artis added 11 points and nine rebounds as Pittsburgh rode its two seniors to a 61-59 victory against Georgia Tech on Tuesday night in the first round on the Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament.

The 14th-seeded Panthers (16-16) play sixth-seeded and No. 21 Virginia on Wednesday night at Barclays Center.

No. 11 seed Georgia Tech (17-15) closed the season losing four of five, putting its hopes of earning a bid to the NCAA Tournament in peril.

Artis and Young were kept out of the starting lineup and on the bench for the first 10 minutes of Pitt’s season-finale loss to Virginia on Saturday for what coach Kevin Stallings called a violation of team rules.

How much money did Amba Etta-Tawo raise at NFL combine with his vertical jump? (PS; Mink)

In case you missed it last week, former Syracuse football wide receiver Amba Etta-Tawo announced he would tie his vertical jump results at the NFL Scouting Combine to a fundraiser for rare disease research.

Etta-Tawo jumped 31 inches at the combine over the weekend, raising $1,641 through 16 donors. The money will go to Uplifting Athletes, a non-profit organization that combats rare diseases through many student-run university chapters around the nation.

Syracuse University's chapter benefits anaplastic astrocytoma research.

With the NFL combine behind him, Etta-Tawo will turn his attention to Syracuse University's pro day, to be held March 20 at the Ensley Athletic Center. Other NFL hopefuls from SU who did not earn an invite to the combine will participate at the school's pro day.

Miami Keeps Spring Football Under Wraps (fanragsports.com; Shanahan)

Florida may be the Sunshine State, but spring was a mystery this year. Spring football, that is.

The Miami Hurricanes, who were originally expected to open spring drills on March 1, finally announced late last week they’ll get to work on March 21 at the Greentree Practice Fields. But note to fans: Don’t expect to see anything.

All practices are closed. There won’t be a spring game, and spring scrimmages won’t be open to the public, either.

The secrecy contrasts with a year ago, when Mark Richt returned to his alma mater to take over the program. Practices were closed – not unusual in the paranoid world of college and pro football — but fans were welcomed at one spring scrimmage and the spring game.

Why the secrecy?

One reason for not staging a spring game this year has been renovations that are taking place at Hard Rock Stadium. One alternative considered was a spring game or scrimmage staged Boca Raton High, but only a closed practice has been set at the high school facility.

Another reason is the Hurricanes must identify a new quarterback to replace Brad Kaaya, who declared early for the NFL Draft following his junior season.

Redshirt junior Malik Rosier was Kaaya’s backup. He took the field in six games, but his playing time was limited to completing 2-of-4 passes for 32 yards without a touchdown.

Another candidate is Jack Allison, a top recruit in the Class of 2016 who redshirted last season. The 6-foot-5, 200-pounder from Parrish (Fla.) Palmetto was a consensus 4-star prospect by ESPN, 247Sports, Rivals and Scout. Perhaps Richt wants to limit the scrutiny of Allison from the public and prevent any video of him from circulating. Coaches don’t wait until game week to scout opponents. That’s one of their offseason jobs.

In the 21st episode of the cast, the maroon men take a look back and grade the performances of the teams in the Atlantic division for the 2016 season based on expectations and history. Did Wake Forest have a better season than Florida State? Does Clemson deserve an A or A+ for the season? Plus the fellas discuss the way in which every player cheats in the NFL combine but nobody seems to care. All this and more on THE comprehensive ACC football podcast.

Large crowd turns out to hear plan for proposed film school in Liverpool (PS; Moses)

About 200 people packed the auditorium of the former A.V. Zogg Middle School in the village of Liverpool tonight to hear Jeremy Garelick, a Hollywood writer and director, pitch his plan for a proposed film school.

Garelick, who is known for his work in the "The Hangover," "The Break-Up" and "The Wedding Ringer," held the open house to give a presentation to the public about the proposed film school and to hear feedback from community members.

The goal of the school is to educate local students and aspiring filmmakers with hands-on work and classes taught by Hollywood film workers. The school would create a local group of writers, actors and filmmakers.

"This is a business and a school that we've been working on for a long, long time and we've been looking for the right location," Garelick said. "We've been looking all over the country and we really hope that it works out here."

Garelick said the goal for the first year of the school would be partner with local colleges and universities and enroll about 40 students. The students would make movies and those movies would be about high school, which makes the former Zogg building the perfect setting for the movies and for the film school, Garelick said.
