Franklin Named to Lott IMPACT Trophy Watch List (cuse.com)

Orange senior linebacker Zaire Franklin has been named by the Pacific Club IMPACT Foundation to the 42-player watch list for the 2017 Lott IMPACT Trophy. The award is named after Pro Football Hall of Fame safety Ronnie Lott and is presented to college football's Defensive IMPACT Player of the Year.

An All-ACC Third Team selection last season and two-year starter at middle linebacker, Franklin in Syracuse's active defensive leader in game started (27), tackles (226), tackles for loss (26), sacks (7) and forced fumbles (4). He was second on the Orange with 101 tackles in 2016 and ranked eighth in the ACC in tackles per game (8.4). He also tied for the team lead with 10 tackles for loss.

Off the field, Franklin is a two-time team captain. He has represented the program twice at ACC Kickoff, the league's annual preseason media event, and he's an active member of the Syracuse University chapter of Uplifting Athletes. Franklin is also a member of Syracuse's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).

Founded in 2004 by The Pacific Club IMPACT Foundation, The Lott Trophy is the first and only college football award to equally recognize athletic performance and the personal character attributes of the player. The Lott Trophy is given to the player who exhibits the same characteristics Lott embodied during his distinguished career: Integrity, Maturity, Performance, Academics, Community and Tenacity.

The winner of the 14th annual Lott IMPACT Trophy will be announced at a banquet on Dec. 10 at the Pacific Club in Newport Beach, Calif.

Preview 2017: Syracuse Orange (collegefootballnews, com; Fiutak)

What You Need To Know About The Syracuse Offense
That’s how it was supposed to work – sort of. Head coach Dino Babers took the offense that rocked for Bowling Green and cranked it up for the Orange when it came to yards. Points? Those will come later.

The passing game was among the best in the country, and it had to be with all the shootouts the team was in. QB Eric Dungey turned into a statistical superstar before getting knocked out for the last month of the season. Top target Amba Etta-Tawo is gone, but the receiver combination of Ervin Philips and Steve Ishmael should be as good as any in the ACC.

The backs are there, but will they get used more? Dontae Strickland is a reliable back, but he’s going to to need help in the rotation with little established depth to rely on. Fortunately, the ground game might be better with all five starters returning up front. The line has to be stronger in pass protection and far tougher for a rushing attack that ran for just 3.2 yards per game.

Biggest Key To The Syracuse Offense
Score every single time there’s a chance. The defense might be experienced, but it’ll have problems again – the Orange O has to be able to keep up in firefights, and that means never giving away points.

For all the fun and all the big yards, the team had a problem putting the biscuit in the basket, struggling to score until the 61-point explosion in the final game – a loss to PItt.

The Orange misfired on too many empty trips inside the 20, scoring just 29 of the 37 times deep into enemy territory. Granted, many of the whiffs came in blowouts, but there were several momentum-changers that turned bigger problems.

What You Need To Know About The Syracuse Defense
Non-existent, the Syracuse defense was a nightmare far too often, giving up over 500 yards per game and 39 points per game. On the plus side, there’s a whole lot of experience returning.

Matt Vallece, not offered by Syracuse

Analyzing The Current Boston College Football Class of 2018 (bcinterruption.com; Black)

Boston College football is in the midst of a solid run of recruits, as quarterback Matt Valecce, offensive tackle Finn Dirstine, safety Evan Stewart and DT Ryan Betro have all committed in the past week. Where does this class stack up, and what needs still need to be addressed.

Current Class Of 2018

# Last Name First Name Stars Position Hometown State High School Other Offers

1 Galloway Jehlani ** WR Providence RI Classical Army, Maine, UMass
2 Luchetti Joey ** TE Groton MA Lawrence Academy n/a
3 Tessitore John ** K Wallingford CT Choate n/a
4 Bennermon Kyiev ** DT Spackenkill NY Spackenkill n/a
5 Langan Johnny *** QB Oradell NJ Bergan Catholic Syracuse, Temple, Rutgers, Buffalo,
6 Stewart Evan *** S Montvale NJ St. Joseph Louisville, UConn, Syracuse, UNC, NC State, Navy, Pittsburgh, Virginia, WVU
7 Valecce Matt NR QB Bronx NY Fordham Prep Pittsburgh, Rutgers, Buffalo, Brown
8 Dirstine Finn **** OT Groton MA Lawrence Academy Miami, Colorado State, Illinois, Syracuse, Texas State
9 Betro Ryan NR DT Groton MA Lawrence Academy Fordham, Syracuse, Rutgers, UMass

First Thoughts: The initial first few recruits were a little underwhelming in terms of their offers and star power, but recently BC has been able to pull in some legit names with some nice offers. It’s interesting that to this point BC hasn’t landed a commit outside of the Northeast area, as it appears that Paul Pasqualoni, and Anthony Campanile have been killing it the hardest so far outside of Massachusetts.

Anheuser-Busch to invest $10 million in Upstate NY brewery, partner with Teavana (PS' Cazentre)

Anheuser-Busch InBev today announced it will invest $10 million in its Upstate New York brewery, located just outside Baldwinsville near Syracuse.

That spending will help boost production of non-alcohol drinks, including an iced tea produced under the Teavana brand, which is owned by Starbucks. The brewery will also install new packaging machinery.

The Baldwinsville brewery investment is part of a $500 million 2017 spending plan the Belgian-based company announced for its 12 U.S. breweries and distribution operations across the country.

Teavana is a brand of high-end, loose-leaf tea that was founded in Atlanta in 1997 and was purchased by the Seattle-based Starbucks coffee company in 2012.

The Baldwinsville will produce and package a line of products called Teavana Craft Iced Teas. Anheuser-Busch and Starbucks had announced the partnership in 2016, but had not identified where the teas would be made until today.

"We are excited to be working with Anheuser-Busch to unlock the premium ready-to-drink tea market and further grow demand for the Teavana brand," Tony Matta, president for Global Channel Development at Starbucks, said in a statement. "We look forward to continued success and momentum for Teavana Craft Iced Teas through the support of the Baldwinsville brewery."
