Welcome to National Junk Food Day!

Each year on July 21 we observe National Junk Food Day. This day is dedicated to the foods everyone loves to snack on. Junk foods by definition are usually high in fats, sugars, salt and calories, and contain very little nutritional value.

Celebrate by consuming your favorite junk food. Post on social media using #NationalJunkFoodDay.

You can also celebrate by taking a walk or doing some yard work to burn off those extra calories.

Once a Syracuse lacrosse commit, local DE Casey Rogers eyeing Power-5 football (PS; Bailey)

Two years ago, Casey Rogers committed to Syracuse lacrosse.

Then a sophomore at nearby Westhill Senior High School, Rogers was set on playing for his father -- assistant coach Lelan Rogers -- at SU.

Enter Jamie Casullo, the son of ex-Orange assistant Bob Casullo, who was hired as Westhill's head coach in May 2014. His coaching led Rogers to realize he may be able to play at college football's highest level.

A recruiting trip to Michigan State for the Spartans' game against Michigan last fall left Rogers floored.

"That kind of planted the seed for me to really want to play big-time college football," Rogers said during a phone interview Wednesday.

The 6-foot-4, 245-pound Rogers turned own offers from Western Michigan and West Virginia last cycle, instead deciding to stick to his initial plan of taking a postgraduate year at Avon Old Farms School in Connecticut. Ever since, he's been making waves in the college football recruiting scene.

Rogers has already camped at Alabama, Penn State, Colorado, Syracuse, West Virginia, Boston College and Connecticut this summer and heads to Ohio State on Friday.

New Hampshire is the only school to offer him as a Class of 2018 prospect thus far, but Rogers believes it's only a matter of time before the bigger dominoes start to fall.

ITLH Syracuse Football 2017 Campaign Broken Down (itlh.com; Edsen Sr)

As I previewed last week we are entering my most favorite time of the year. While we are counting down the days (42 days appropriately as of writing of this article) until the season opener Friday night September 1st, I will break down the schedule game by game.

The Orange’s 2017 campaign is filled with numerous ranked teams from last year and is considered one of the toughest schedules in the nation.

Five of the ‘Cuses opponents were in the top twenty of last years football rankings. LSU, Clemson, Miami, Florida State and Louisville fill out this murder’s row.

Only one of them the game against Clemson on appropriately Friday the 13th is in the friendly confines of the Dome. The Orange will need the bad luck associated with that date to befall their opponents to help them redeem last years embarrassing loss to the visitors from Death Valley, when the final score was 54-0.

This summer’s training camp will focus on building up stamina as Dino hopes to use his new catch
phrase “Take their lungs” stolen from the Syracuse Women’s basketball coach Quentin Hillsman during their recent ‘No huddle tour’ as reported by Syracuse.com.

The Orange faithful has a three game home stand which Dino will use to try and build momentum and mold his team prior to the tougher portion of his schedule.

Syracuse Football Drama Leaves Orange Thin On Defense (itlh.com; Edsen Jr)

The Syracuse football team is left scratching their heads following some allegedly bias medical attention. ITLH investigates

While there’s been a lot to cheer about this offseason for the Syracuse football team. Those good feels didn’t last long after a double dose of bad news for the Orange.

Early on Wednesday afternoon it was revealed by Syracuse dot com beat man, Stephen Bailey that Orange DE Josh Allen, had been “medically disqualified due to a cardiac condition”.

If you remember the former JUCO DL arrived this offseason. Just when you thought it couldn’t get worse, it did.

Steven Clark is a defensive tackle for the Orange. On Wednesday he was seeking a second medical opinion locally to see if he could suit up for the Cuse. But he revealed that he didn’t get what he was seeking and cited ulterior motives by the medical professional (Dr. James Tucker).

Clark has received an offer from Western Michigan and will visit the team on Friday, per Stephen Bailey.

So another one bites the dust for the Orange. Which leaves the team dangerously thin on the defensive line. Sound familiar?

The Orange encountered a similar situation last season with a rash of injuries to their secondary. This was finally Dino Babers‘ chance to enter the season with a healthy defense, a health
y Eric Dungey, and a good chance to end the team’s bowl drought.

Trent Greene, Matt Johnson Join Orange Football Staff (cuse.com)

Former Bowling Green football standouts Trent Greene and Matt Johnson have joined the Syracuse staff, head coach Dino Babers announced on Thursday, July 20. Greene and Johnson starred for Babers while he was the head coach of the Falcons and helped BGSU capture the 2015 Mid-American Conference (MAC) Championship.

Greene will serve a defensive graduate assistant for the Orange, while Johnson will work as the team's offensive quality control assistant.

A team captain and two-time All-MAC selection at linebacker, Greene played three seasons for the Falcons and totaled 248 career tackles, including 127 in 2015 to help BGSU win the conference title. The following season, Greene paced the Falcons with 111 stops and ranked fourth in the MAC in tackles per game (9.3).

A 2016 nominee for the Burlsworth Trophy, awarded to the best player in college football who began his career as a walk-on, Greene earned his undergraduate degree from BGSU in December 2016. He is pursuing a master's degree in instructional design, development and evaluation at Syracuse.

The 2015 MAC Offensive Player of the Year, Johnson played in 37 games for Bowling Green over four seasons and holds the BGSU record with 73 career touchdown passes.

As the starting quarterback for the Falcons in 2015, Johnson guided the squad to a 10-4 record and rewrote the team's single-season record book. He set school and conference records for passing yardage (4,946) and touchdown passes (46). He also established new BGSU yearly marks for completions (383), completion percentage (.673) and yards of total offense (5,105).

In addition to being voted the conference's offensive player of the year and the MAC Vern Smith Leadership Award winner, Johnson earned 2015 honorable mention All-America honors from Sports Illustrated and won the prestigious Sammy Baugh Award, given to the nation's top passer each season by the Touchdown Club of Columbus.

Following his college career, Johnson signed a free-agent contract with the Cincinnati Bengals. He also previously spent time in the Canadian Football League as a member of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

A native of Harrisburg, Pa., Johnson served as a c
oach for his high school alma mater – Bishop McDevitt – in 2016.

Billionaire Elon Musk teases 29-minute New York to Washington Hyperloop (PS; Tampone)

Billionaire Elon Musk says he has "verbal" government approval to construct an ultra-high-speed underground transportation system in the Northeast.

In a series of tweets, Musk said he has plans to build a system that would take people from New York to Washington in 29 minutes, according to USA Today. Experts said the massive costs and bureaucratic hurdles of a such a project would make it extremely difficult to pull off.

The Washington Post noted that Musk has been known to talk big and overpromise in the past.

Still, he's involved in some exciting ventures, including the Space X private space travel firm and electric-car manufacturer Tesla. Musk is also chairman of solar energy company SolarCity, which is building a massive plant in Buffalo.

He was also involved previously with PayPal.

One of Musk's latest ventures is a firm called The Boring Co., dedicated to building faster and more efficient tunnel-boring machines, USA Today said. One outcome could be to use the machines to construct tunnels for a transportation system known as Hyperloop, which would hurtle passengers through underground tubes in high-speed pods.
