Welcome to Osun Decision Day!

Osun Osunniyi, a 6-10 center at Putnam (Conn.) Science Academy, has taken his visits and narrowed his college choices to three schools.

Now, the 2018 recruiting prospect has set his announcement date. Osunniyi will announce his college choice on Monday, according to Putnam Science assistant coach Josh Scraba.

Osunniyi will pick from Syracuse, Georgetown and St. Bonaventure. He has visited all three schools within the past two weeks.

Syracuse Football loses Asil Mulbah to the Buffalo Bills (itlh.com; Esden Jr)

The Syracuse football squad just lost a key piece of their recruiting efforts to the NFL. ITLH breaks down what this means and who can replace.

Not this again! That’s probably the first thing Syracuse football fans are thinking reading the headline of this piece.

A few years ago SU fans had to witness their head coach Doug Marrone take his talents to the Buffalo Bills and now history is repeating itself, well sort of.

...
The heir to the throne is Kramer Cook (Assistant Director of Recruiting). He joined the Orange back in 2016 as an assistant and was just promoted to his current role this year. It seems as though he’s going to receive another promotion, sooner rather than later.

He’s got a juicy resume of subsidiary roles that have built up to his current position:
  • Cook graduated from Wisconsin-Eau Claire in 2012 with a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a minor in coaching. In addition, he holds two graduate degrees from Robert Morris, one in sport administration and the other in business administration, per Cuse.com.
  • Spent time as a graduate assistant for Robert Morris University in Chicago. He also handled JUCO recruiting for the same University.
  • He also went through the ringer at Coastal Carolina University as well in a variety of roles.
What Are Syracuse Football’s “Swing” Games? – Orange Fizz – Free Syracuse Recruiting News (orangefizz.net; Aki)

The old coaching cliche says that every game is important. Is it true? Sure. But it doesn’t take an X’s and O’s wizard to tell you that certain games and matchups can swing a season. Given the Orange’s recent history under Dino Babers, SU will likely steal a game as a heavy underdog and lose one it should win. With Syracuse’s bowl drought spanning back to 2013, there’s a feeling of desperation for central New York football fans. The Orange has come up a game or two short of a bowl in each of Babers’ first two seasons at the helm, both of which could have swung if a couple plays went their way and some L’s were flipped to W’s.

In 2018, the schedule isn’t nearly as tough as it has been in year’s past (hello UNC and UConn, goodbye LSU and Miami). With a couple of game times already known, this is shaping up to be the Orange’s best chance at a bowl since that 2013 season. But 2018 could be another postseason spent watching from the couch if the Orange doesn’t execute in a couple swing games.

Let’s define a swing game before we dive into a couple pending matchups. These are toss up games that the Orange may either be a slight favorite or a slight underdog in. If SU wins more of these than it loses, it has the chance to “swing” the season from being a non-bowl contender to playing an extra game. Keep in mind, these may not be the most exciting opponents on the slate, but they are the difference makers.

Louisville

The Orange hasn’t beaten the Cardinals since Bobby Petrino re-took over the team. The last two years, you could pencil Louisville in as an L because of the man under center. But now that Lamar Jackson is suiting up for a different bird this coming football season, anything goes. Not only that, but the Cards also lost their elite cornerback, Jaire Alexander, to the draft, which certainly helps the Orange passing attack that has thrown seven interceptions against the Cardinals over the past three seasons. But again, you can’t emphasize this enough: the difference maker the last two seasons has been Jackson. With him off the field, the Orange has a chance to beat a decent Cardinals team.

Anchor Bar runs out of wings on its 2nd day of business in NYC (PS; TNS)

If you were an Anchor Bar franchise opening in New York City, what is the one product you'd stockpile to make sure customers were pleased in the first few days of business?

No, not ranch dressing.

According to Eater NY, Anchor Bar NY -- which opened May 17 in midtown Manhattan (327 W. 57th St.) -- did not have wings (or even beef on weck) available from 11:30 a.m. until after 1:30 p.m. on its second day of business.

The timing was even more atrocious for Anchor Bar, as Eater and the New York Times, two nationally respected media sources, had sent critics to sample the fare during the unfortunate wingless period.
