Celebrated by snake and wildlife enthusiasts, World Snake Day raises awareness about snakes and educates the public about them; it dispels fears and misconceptions about them and enlightens the public on how they should be dealt with. A focus is often put on conservation, which is valuable because snakes face habitat loss on account of development, and there are around 100 species that are listed as endangered by the IUCN Red List. Events, such as snake awareness programs, are held at zoos and museums and organized by NGOs on the day.
There are more than 3,000 snake species, and snakes can be found on every continent except Antarctica. They live in most countries, although they aren't found on a few island countries like Iceland, Ireland, and New Zealand, or on the autonomous island territory of Greenland. Snakes live in almost any environment: in forests, grasslands, deserts, savannas, swamps, and mountain regions. About 70 species of sea snakes even live in water, being found in the Indian and Pacific oceans. The largest snake is the reticulated python, which may reach over 30 feet in length; the smallest is the threadsnake, which is less than four inches long.

Syracuse football schedules Tennessee for 2025 season opener (247sports.com; Bailey)
Syracuse football will open its 2025 season against Tennessee in Atlanta for the Chick-Fil-A Kickoff Game, SU Athletics announced on Thursday. The Orange and Volunteers are slated to kick off on Saturday, Aug. 30 inside Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
The game will be broadcast on either ABC or ESPN and a start time will be finalized at a later date.
“Scheduling this game is a great opportunity for our program,” SU head coach Dino Babers said in a statement. “Getting an opportunity to open the 2025 season on a national stage and in Mercedes-Benz Stadium is something that our players and fans can really look forward to and be excited about.”
“To kick off the 2025 season in one of the nation’s premier season-opening neutral site games is exciting for our student-athletes and for our program,” athletic director John Wildhack said in a statement. “We look forward to playing in this event in front our Orange fans in the greater Atlanta area, which is among the strongest Syracuse alumni contingents in the country.”

The game will be played on Saturday, Aug. 30, with a time to be determined. It will be broadcast by either ABC or ESPN.
Syracuse has not won a non-conference regular-season game against a Power-Five opponent since Nov. 17, 2012, when the Orange beat Missouri.

Pro Football Focus, the KenPom of college football, released its 2021 Preseason Quarterback Rankings on Monday. It ranked all 130 FBS starting, or at least presumed starting, QBs based on their “play-by-play grading profile and several other data points, in addition to film and scheme review.”
To no surprise, Syracuse’s Tommy DeVito falls under the “needs to improve/more reps” category. PFF slots the rising senior in at No. 95 on the preseason rankings.

For Syracuse football things have devolved rapidly over the past two seasons.
In 2018, the Orange went 10-3 and won 10 games for the first time since 2001 and it looked as if head coach Dino Babers had resurrected a dormant program. But the next season Syracuse missed a bowl game and in 2020 the team dropped to 1-10 its worst mark since Greg Robinson’s first season in 2005.
Clemson travels to the Carrier Dome in Syracuse, N.Y. for another Friday night bout on Oct. 15 at 7 p.m. and here is what to expect from the Orange.
Last meeting: In 2020 Clemson rolled Syracuse 47-21 at Memorial Stadium on Oct. 24 to win its third straight contest with the Orange and seven of the last eight in the series since they joined the ACC in 2013.

This is possibly the worst preview I have ever seen. Yes, it reads like it was written by someone who uses English as their 3rd language. It looks like most of the article is missing. How can you analyze the offense and not mention the QBs or RBs, and only mention the OL in a vague reference?
Only two players are named in the defensive analysis and only one is a starter.
Special teams are just completely ignored.

Last Matchup: 35-17, Florida State
The 2020 season did not see a matchup between the Seminoles and the Syracuse Orange. With a new season approaching and new additions for both teams, this match is sure to be a great reunion for both.
Including the 2019 win, the Seminoles have won all but 1 game against Syracuse in the past four years giving them an 86.8% power advantage. But this meeting at Doak Campbell will be far from easy. Especially with the Orange adding Garrett Shrader, a quarterback transfer from Mississippi State to their roster; a move that will bring dimension to the team’s offense.
Offense
Having a fighting chance will come down to Syracuse’s wide receivers and their offense coming into place with the right players matched in the right positions. Taj Harris leads the pass catchers with 135 passes received since 2018. Managing to put up competitive stats in the ACC with an offense that was in shambles shows how dynamic some of the elements of Syracuse’s offense can be. Harris has only more opportunities for improvement as he adjusts to the system Dino Barbers has for the Orange. Once the best fit is found, his role along with Anthony Queeley’s could be cause for trouble.
Standing 6’2 with a 200lb frame, Queeley was Syracuse’s second most frequently targeted wide receiver, catching 37 passes for 378 yards last year. His stature and down-field capabilities could see him converting more passes to scores. Syracuse also has plenty of talent in their youth ranks. Luke Benson, a sophomore, managed to finish with one-hundred seventy-five yards and three touchdowns on just eight catches. Former Tight End, now Fullback Chris Elmore continues to serve as the glue for the offensive line, carrying the ball last year twenty-eight times for sixty-five yards and three touchdowns.

Is Comcast Nearing a Deal For ACC Network?TV Answer Man, I read an article that the ACC Network executive thinks he will get a deal for his channel on Comcast. Is that correct? Will it happen this month? — Jim, Boston.
...before you get too excited, Comcast’s current carriage agreement with ESPN is not expected to expire until January 2022, four months after Phillips says a deal will ‘likely’ be reached. It’s unlikely that Comcast would negotiate a separate agreement with ESPN for the ACC Network prior to engaging in more discussions for a larger agreement for all of ESPN’s channels, as well as the Disney and ABC channels. (Disney owns ESPN and ABC.) That’s usually not how these things work. Pay TV operators like to settle all open questions in the same negotiation.
Now it’s possible that Comcast and ESPN (and Disney) will begin talks earlier than January 2022, like in September, let’s say. That could be what Phillips is referring to. But there’s no pressure for Comcast now to strike a new deal with Disney/ESPN because its current agreement still has seven months to go.
Finally, I would note that chances are good that Comcast will add the ACC Network when it does negotiate a new agreement with ESPN/Disney. But I don’t expect that to happen until late this year.

What’s new in the I-81 plans? More work on I-481, Lyndon Corners, plus new SU exit (exclusive) (PS; $; Weaver)
The newest version of plans for the future of Interstate 81 includes more upgrades to Interstate 481, a new exit near Syracuse University and a pledge to include city residents in plans for the land freed up after the highway comes down.
The massive report, which was delivered to local officials this week, builds on the state’s plans released two years ago. The state’s goal for the $2 billion project is the same: Tear down a portion of Interstate 81 in Syracuse and reroute thru traffic around the city. (You can read the intro to the report below.)
But in this new document, there are some changes to the project -- which would remake Syracuse’s highway system and change how thousands of residents and tourists get to some of the region’s largest workplaces, college campuses and local hospitals.
Some new parts of the project are in the heart of the city, including near one of the country’s oldest public housing complexes. Other changes are in the suburbs, including improvements at Lyndon Corners, an intersection in DeWitt that already bottlenecks during rush hours.
Earlier today, syracuse.com | The Post-Standard got an electronic copy of the full report. It’s officially called a Draft Environmental Impact Statement, and its upcoming release will kickoff a public comment period that runs through mid-September.
