On the day, students, parents, and others give thanks to their teachers, to teachers of their children, and to teachers in their community. Spark between Williams, Cardinals at combine led to CB being drafted (PS; $; Leiker)
When former Syracuse football captain Garrett Williams entered his meeting with the Arizona Cardinals at the NFL Combine, everyone stood and clapped.
Williams was the last cornerback they were meeting with — on purpose, they told him.
It was his last meeting of the event, too, and Williams said he could feel a different energy in that room than any of the other ones he was in that day in early March.
Those present were impressed with how in-depth Williams could talk about defensive fronts and coverages, and new Arizona head coach Jonathan Gannon, a former defensive coordinator, remarked that much of the terminology Williams used was the same he employs.
“After the Combine, I was telling my family and friends, if there was a place I’d pick right now, it’d be Arizona,” Williams said.
Arizona drafted Williams No. 72 overall on the second night of the NFL Draft on April 28 as their third overall pick in the draft behind offensive tackle Paris Johnson Jr. and defensive edge BJ Ojulari. Williams is preparing to join the team in Phoenix next week for what will be his first trip to the state.

Syracuse football: Decommit and departure from Orange program (TNIAAM; De Guzman)
The Syracuse Orange football program lost a commit from 2024 priority wide receiver Syair Torrence over the weekend. The Orange also lost a member of the 2023 class as JUCO linebacker Lonnie Rice announced that he left the program.
Torrence, a 3-star wide receiver from nearby CBA Syracuse, was the highest rated recruit of Syracuse’s 2024 recruiting class so far. He was also the first Orange commit in the Class of 2024. Torrence, the brother of former Syracuse men’s basketball guard Symir (who recently transferred to Binghamton), looked to be an electrifying addition to the Orange program. He recently picked up an offer from Michigan State.

Syracuse football will host Kentucky transfer offensive lineman David Wohlabaugh for an official visit this weekend, multiple sources told All Syracuse. The 6-6, 321 pound lineman was offered by the Orange last week and he has three years of eligibility remaining. Wohlabaugh played in eight games last season including one start after redshirting for the 2021 campaign.
Wohlabaugh signed with Kentucky in the 2021 recruiting class out of Walsh Jesuit High School in Ohio. He picked the Wildcats over offers from Arizona State, Maryland, Michigan State, Pittsburgh, Purdue and West Virginia, among many others. He was rated a three star prospect, the 69th best offensive tackle and 24th best player in Ohio by 247Sports. Rivals also rated him as a three star prospect that was the 69th best player at his position, but ranked him 28th best in the state.

In anticipation of 100,000 or more new residents as a result of Micron Technology's planned chip plant in Clay, Onondaga County has revised its comprehensive plan for the first time in 30 years. This map shows suggested land uses and locations for centers of housing and retail.
Onondaga County’s plan for Micron housing surge: Put more people closer together (PS; $; Coin)
Onondaga County’s new plan for growth would create dense conglomerations of homes and shops in the northern part of the county and leave the south to agriculture.
Plan Onondaga, or Plan On, lays the framework for how the county and its municipalities should prepare for the potential addition of 100,000 new residents when Micron Technology builds its planned chip plant in the town of Clay.
The county’s plan calls for a variety of “centers,” which includes beefing up traditional villages, adding housing to existing commercial centers, and creating new “town growth centers,” which would be nearly self-sufficient communities with homes, apartments and townhomes surrounding a retail and office core. Eight of those centers would be strung along Route 31 from Van Buren to Cicero.
The centers would be linked to each other and the surrounding communities by ribbons of natural areas, waterways, and transportation networks including new bus routes and bike lanes.
“Everything we need to do to maximize the opportunity is in front of us, and this is a road map to do it,” said County Executive Ryan McMahon.
The county will formally release Plan On today. It will mark the first update to the countywide comprehensive plan in nearly 30 years. The plan will be presented this month to the county Legislature, which will eventually hold a public hearing and then vote to approve or deny it.

At half-past 2 on the afternoon of May 8, 1873, the new college bell rang out brightly, calling the assembled crowd, led by Chancellor Alexander Winchell, to order inside the magnificent new edifice that looked out from its perch high above the bustling city below.
“For you shall go out in joy and be led forth in peace. The Mountains and hills before you and the trees of the fields clap their hands…and it shall be to remember the Lord, an everlasting sign.”
With those words, the quartette of vocalists ceased, ending the opening hymn, “Seek ye the Lord,” at the dedication of the Hall of Languages on “Piety Hill.”
It had been nearly two years since the cornerstone was laid for the first building on Syracuse University’s new campus.
Over the ensuing century and a half, the city and the university grew up together like siblings in symbiotic relationship that has benefitted both entities to an extent that the citizens gathered there on that beautiful May afternoon could have only dreamed of.
The story of that springtime celebration began amidst a bitter Central New York winter.
In February 1870, the Methodist Church held its annual state convention in the bustling Salt City.

A Central New York woman is ready to pursue her dream on a new Food Network show.
Ally Radziewicz will be a contestant on “Summer Baking Championship,” hosted by “The Bachelor” star Jesse Palmer on the Food Network and Discovery+. She will be one of ten bakers tackling summer-themed baking challenges for a chance to win a $25,000 grand prize and the official title of “Summer Baking Champion.”
Radziewicz, a 2011 Jamesville-DeWitt High School graduate, is a professional French-trained baker who operates her own small business, The Love Bean, at her home in Pompey, N.Y. On Instagram (@the_lovebean), she frequently shares photos of delectable-looking cakes, cupcakes, cookies, macaroons and other custom-crafted sweet treats for birthdays, weddings and other special occasions.
On “Summer Baking Championship,” though, she’ll be competing to impress judges Duff Goldman, Carla Hall, and Damaris Phillips. The Food Network has multiple “Baking Championship” series, but this new spinoff requires contestants use flavors, ingredients, and celebrations specific to the summer season.
“I was excited when I found out it was summer (themed),” Radziewicz told syracuse.com | The Post-Standard. “I love all things summer. I love summer baking and the seasonal ingredients that that brings so I was excited. ... I would have been nervous but I think summer made it a little more lighthearted, which was nice.”
One of the show’s first competitions required the contestants to make doughnuts that look like pool floaties. She was ready for the challenge.
