Welcome to National Pinot Grigio Day!

Pinot Grigio, a crisp, light, smooth, and dry white wine, is celebrated today with National Pinot Grigio Day. Cavit Collection Wines, makers of the leading Italian wine in the United States, Cavit Pinot Grigio, created the day in 2017. National Pinot Grigio Day has been observed with the drinking of pinot grigio, the pairing of pinot grigio with food, and the use of pinot grigio to prepare food. On some observances, Cavit has joined up with others to share savory recipes and to create a pinot grigio doughnut with a cheesecake filling, Cavit Pinot Grigio glaze, and meringue.

Pinot grigio has aromas of citrus, pear, and stone fruits. Notes of honeysuckle, almond, and baking spices may also come through. Cavit asserts their pinot grigio "offers light refreshing notes of pear, apple, almonds and citrus, ideal for spring and summer." A versatile wine, pinot grigio is drunk as an aperitif and is used to make seafood dishes, veggie pastas, fruit salads, risottos, veal dishes, and cobblers. It pairs well with seafood, chicken, light pasta dishes, salads, and cheeses like gruyere and manchego. Served well-chilled, at about 45 degrees Fahrenheit, it is perfect for a picnic on a warm spring or summer day. Unlike many other wine varieties, pinot grigio should be drunk soon after being bottled, instead of being aged—it should be drunk one or two years after the vintage date, the year the grapes were harvested.

Syracuse adds preferred walk-on wide receiver Nick Armentano (PS; Leiker)

Syracuse football added a preferred walk-on wide receiver to its ranks Tuesday.

Nick Armentano played high school ball at Staples High School in Westport, Connecticut and then did a post-grad year at IMG Academy.

Armentano does not have a profile on any of the major recruiting websites. His Hudl highlights can be viewed here.

He is 5-foot-8, 176 pounds according to his Twitter bio.

Proud to announce my commitment to play football at Syracuse. Thanks to everyone who helped me get here. Beyond blessed! @roywittke @CoachBabersCuse @CoachRichieMize @CoachBehrends @Coach_Chung61 pic.twitter.com/Cjpd5rIsJ0

Syracuse has had a busy week of commitments, with three players announcing they were joining the class of 2023 on Monday: offensive lineman David Wohlabaugh Jr., defensive back Jakobie Searbourn and defensive back Berry Buxton III.

The Orange currently has nine wide receivers on its roster plus leading pass-catching tight end Oronde Gadsden. At least two more WRs are expected to join this summer from the class of 2023: Bryce Cohoon and Darrell Gill Jr.

JUCO defensive back Jakobie Seabourn announced his commitment to Syracuse this week. Seabourn made an official visit to Syracuse this past weekend and he had a great time learning about the school and football program.

“The town really took me by surprise,” Seabourn said. “It was my first time visiting New York, so I wasn’t sure what to expect. It was very beautiful and the people in the community were very friendly. When I got offered, I was overwhelmed just because I've worked very hard and it’s starting to show and it just motivates me to work even harder.”

Seabourn is a versatile defensive back, who played the last two seasons at Santa Barbara City College. He said the individuals in the football program made Syracuse stand out among the schools that recruited him.

“The coaches and the players,” he said. “I felt a great connection between the coaches and I every time we got to talk. The players were the best group of guys I've been around out of all my visits. We just bonded very well.”

Syracuse football in top 10 for 4-star wide receiver, who eyes official visit (itlh; Adler)

Jason Robinson from California, a four-star wide receiver and a top-450 national prospect in the 2024 class, recently disclosed his top 10, and Syracuse football made the cut.

The 5-foot-11, 160-pound Robinson, who took an unofficial visit to the Hill in mid-April, said via Twitter that his current top 10 consists of the Orange, Utah, Notre Dame, Colorado, Florida State, Pittsburgh, California, Penn State, Washington and Southern California.

It’s definitely encouraging to see Syracuse football make the top 10 for this elite wide receiver, although obviously, the competition is intense for the Orange as ‘Cuse coaches try to prevail in Robinson’s recruitment.

In a recent article from recruiting analyst Charles Kang of The Juice Online, it looks like Robinson plans to take an official visit to Syracuse football. Kang writes that Robinson and the ‘Cuse are working to finalize the dates for his trip to the Orange.

Syracuse football remains in the hunt for 2024 four-star wide receiver Jason Robinson.

Robinson is a standout junior at Long Beach Polytechnic High School in Long Beach, Calif. Last September, he committed to Southern California out of the Pac-12 Conference, but in February of this year, Robinson de-committed from USC and reopened his recruitment.

Syracuse Football: Just your average 4 transfers to the Orange in one day (itlh; Fiello)

On Monday, May 15, SU Athletics proved the transfer portal isn’t always a bad thing as one Syracuse basketball player and not one, but three, Syracuse football players announced their commitment to play at Syracuse University this upcoming season.

Syracuse basketball got a 7-foot-4 center transfer from Florida State University named Naheem McLeod. For details on that, I’ll let our site’s basketball head honcho, Neil Adler, give you the deets on that deal.

Hi, Syracuse Orange sports family. On Monday, @CuseFootball landed three commitments, while @Cuse_MBB scored a pledge from a 7-foot-4 transfer center. Fun. Happy Tuesday.
— InsideTheLoudHouse (@LoudHouseFS) May 16, 2023

As for the football side, the Orange got depth on the offensive line from a Syracuse legacy and not one but two secondary players from the same team nonetheless. And needless to say, Syracuse football head coach Dino Babers approves.

Monday was quite the day in the transfer portal for Syracuse football and basketball.

So let’s start off big with the legacy offensive lineman. David Wohlabaugh is a 6-foot-6, 321-pound offensive lineman and as I mentioned, is also the son of former SU and NFL player Dave Wohlabaugh. David Wohlabaugh is transferring from Kentucky with three years of college eligibility remaining, and he adds depth at a position where depth and value will only help.

Louisville football has the third highest win total projection in the ACC, per report (BRL; Franck)

The future of the Louisville football program hung in the balance upon the abrupt departure of former Head Coach Scott Satterfield. Passionate Louisville fans clamored for the homecoming of Louisville icon Jeff Brohm, but the Head Football Coach position remained vacant for a few days before there were any definitive answers.

The uncertainty was quickly diminished as news broke that Purdue Head Coach Jeff Brohm had agreed to a contract with Athletic Director Josh Heird to become the next Head Football Coach at the University of Louisville. Instantaneously the city caught fire and a buzz filled the Louisville air in a way it hadn’t in a long time.

Scott Satterfield departing Louisville for a seemingly lateral move to the University of Cincinnati left a lot of people scratching their heads. But, it allowed Louisville to reunite with all three of its favorite sons: Greg, Jeff, and Brian Brohm.

From ESPN: ACC optimistic about reaching agreement on new revenue model

The league's athletic directors left a second day of occasionally contentious meetings feeling optimistic that schools would coalesce around a plan that would afford a larger share of postseason revenue... to the teams participating in those postseason games rather than dividing it equally among all members... Florida State athletic director Michael Alford said there are scenarios in which a team making the College Football Playoff could add more than $10 million in revenue annually.

Good job, guys - now get it past the final approvals and put it

UPDATE from ACC Spring Meeting 2023 (RX; HM)

UPDATE from ACC Spring Meeting 2023

David Hale has a couple of insights to report from Amelia Island:

per 1 ACC AD:

* Zero credence to the idea that 7 or 8 teams are looking to leave. "Everyone has reviewed the GoR."

* Very close on a revenue sharing plan that would reward on-field success. Any plan would then go to presidents for approval. Would not impact TV revenue though.
— ️♈️ (@ADavidHaleJoint) May 16, 2023

So, what does this all mean?

1. No one is trying to break up the band - which is what I thought. One might even conclude that no one has a way to break up the band.
2. Performance-based revenue sharing for things other than television is, in my opinion, the best possible outcome. Every school gets a stable baseline income, thanks to the TV contract. Add in the incentives and folks start to feel like...

Pondering Amelia Island, 2023 May 16th

DISUNITY IN PARADISE?

Rumor has it things are getting pretty heated at the ACC Spring Meeting in Amelia Island, FL. After seven ACC schools - nicknamed "The Magnificent Seven" by the media - started pushing for unequal sharing (or at least, strong performance-based incentives), things have been a little chippy. Wake Forest AD John Currie was reportedly seen yelling at NC State AD Boo Corrigan - to the point that Miami AD Dan Radakovich allegedly had to step in to break it up!
Folks, it doesn't have to be like this! I'm all for incentives - always have been - but I also recognize the value of having a equal baseline that every program can count on. For example, the SEC splits TV revenue evenly, but bowl money is only split among the bowl-eligible teams. Not bowl-eligible? Adjust your non-conference schedule, get better, or both.

PERFORMANCE INCENTIVES

The ACC has already taken some steps to reward performance. For instance, there was a time when bowl revenue was split evenly, but the bowl participating teams had to bear the expenses all by themselves. Now the ACC reimburses expenses based on a formula.

ACC reportedly nearing new revenue distribution model (awfulannouncing.com; Keeley)

Heading into this week’s ACC spring meetings, it sounded like the conference needed to act fast or risk losing some of its biggest members in spite of a grant of rights agreement.

Now, after a couple of days of closed-door meetings, it appears they’ve hit upon a solution to keep everyone happy, at least for a while.

Per ESPN’s David Hale and Andrea Adelson, the ACC is nearing a new agreement on revenue distribution that would satisfy schools like Florida State and Clemson who feel like they’re falling behind the SEC and Big Ten counterparts in terms of yearly TV revenue.

They report that the league’s athletic directors have come together around a plan that would carve out a larger share of postseason revenue to the teams who participate in those postseason games instead of distributing it equally amongst all conference members. This new deal is said to also include revenue generated from the College Football Playoff.

freestar
Florida State athletic director Michael Alford, who has been leading the charge on ACC schools with traditional football powerhouse programs getting a bigger slice of the pie, sounds pleased with the direction of the discussion.

“The ADs and the universities are very unified,” Alford said. “So we’re thrilled about being in this league, and we want to stay in it.”

freestar
Alford told ESPN that an ACC team making the College Football Playoff could see more than $10 million in revenue annually. Florida State and Clemson are the only conference schools to qualify for the CFP, though its impending expansion will make it easier for them and others to do so more frequently.

This news is a whole lot better than what broke on Monday as rumors swirled that several ACC schools were exploring their options around the grant of rights agreement that governed their conference membership as a way to potentially leave if they didn’t get what they wanted. The ACC currently has a media deal with ESPN through 2036.

On Tuesday, Alford told reporters that talk of schools potentially leaving was “probably overblown.”

ACC Meetings off to a wild start (tigernet.com; Hood)

The ACC Spring Meetings are underway, and the entire conference is under a cloud as all of the schools come to grips with revenue sharing and how the current ACC media rights deal, which runs through 2036, compares to their peers in the SEC and the Big Ten.

The answer to that is that the league simply won't be competitive from a monetary standpoint in a few years. We told you in a video a few weeks ago that we were hearing that there were four teams looking to form a group to leave the ACC, and that there might be as many as six, and now information is coming out that there might be as many as seven or eight. The ACC Athletic Directors met yesterday afternoon into the evening and even though several told members of the media that they would be happy to talk after the meeting, none of them spoke to the media after commissioner Jim Phillips walked through the doors a few minutes before it wrapped it. Is anything imminent?

What is the latest? We try and cover that here:

Broadcast Designations Announced for Two ACC Non-Conference Games (theacc.com)

Television designations for two premier Atlantic Coast Conference non-conference games were announced Tuesday as part of the Disney Ad Sales Up Front presentation.

The Florida State-LSU matchup in the Camping World Kickoff in Orlando, Florida, will kick off at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 3. ABC will televise the game, which is a rematch of the 2022 season opener, won by the Seminoles, 24-23, in New Orleans.

The Notre Dame at Clemson game on Saturday, Nov. 4, also will be televised by ABC. The game time will be determined at a later date. This is one of six games that ACC teams will play against the Fighting Irish this season.

Plotting a new course: Where ACC teams could be headed if they leave conference (247sports.com; Crawford)

The ACC's hot stove is scorching this week at conference meetings in Florida as half of the league's teams are reportedly bounding together in an effort to explore ways they could break the league's grant of rights to go elsewhere in college football's next wave of conference realignment.

While the Pac-12 focuses on hammering out a media rights deal before that conference is pillaged by others, the ACC is trying to hang on to several of its flagship schools who are wanted by other conferences, including the Big Ten and SEC, with a heavy financial penalty hanging over the heads of programs that try to jump.

We've tapped into industry sources and what we've heard from around the ACC this week to get a feel for where UNC, Florida State, Miami, Clemson and others would go if they're able to get out of the grant of rights agreement. These schools are part of the Secret Seven, according to Action Network's Brett McMurphy.

Here's a look at the seven schools who are reportedly grouping themselves into a corner and where they could be headed should they leave the ACC.

A huge housing development, with nearly 600 units, proposed for farmland near Syracuse (PS; $; Doran)

An Albany-based builder is proposing a residential development with a mix of nearly 600 apartments, townhouses and single-family homes in Lysander north of the Seneca River.

If built as proposed, it would rank as one of the largest proposed housing projects in Onondaga County in recent years, said Dan Kwasnowski, director of the Syracuse Onondaga County Planning Agency.

Lysander Town Supervisor Robert Wicks agreed it’s the largest he’s seen. He says the mix of housing proposed in this development is a sign of changing housing trends.

“The demand for 3,000-square-foot colonials is changing as people want more apartments, patio homes and townhomes,” he said. “And we need that here.”

Melvin Farms would be located on 292 acres of what is now vacant land at Hayes and Cold Springs roads in Lysander, off Route 370. Senior housing is also a part of the proposal.

Part of the project also includes more than $2 million in public sewage improvements — paid for by the developer — that would reach beyond the proposed development, according to the town supervisor. It would bring sewage infrastructure to two other housing developments and a nearby elementary school, according to Lysander Supervisor Roberts Wicks.

National Barbecue Day 2023: Deals on charcoal, gas grills from Lowe’s, Amazon, more (PS; Liwanag)

National Barbecue Day is celebrated on Tuesday, May 16, and is a great day to find the best deals on gas and charcoal grills.

What’s the difference? Well, Charcoal grills infuse a ton of flavor into food while getting hotter than gas. These grills are typically smaller but are messier to clean up. Gas grills offer more even and controllable heating without the smoke of a charcoal grill. However, deciding on a grill can be daunting based on the number of options available.

To narrow down your decision, these are the most popular gas or charcoal grills on the market, including models from Weber and Char-Broil. Take a look at the list below and start eating delicious foods this season.
