Welcome to National Lineman Appreciation Day!
The hard work, dedication, and innovation of electrical lineworkers are honored and celebrated today. The idea for National Lineman Appreciation Day came when lineman Bill Bosch realized the public was largely unaware of the work that lineworkers do and thought that should change. He wanted lineworkers to be honored with a day and submitted legislation for National Lineman Appreciation Day to Congress. He chose April 18 for the date because his father, M.L. "Cliff" Bosch, who also was a lineman, passed away on the date in 1992.
On April 10, 2013, Senator Johnny Isakson (R-GA) submitted Senate Resolution 95 on behalf of himself and Senator Michael Bennet (D-CO), and it was agreed to by unanimous consent. It "recognize[d] the efforts of linemen in keeping the power on and protecting public safety" and "support[ed] the designation of April 18, 2013, as National Lineman Appreciation Day." The day has continued to be observed each year since.

Top-ranked 2025 commit Darien Williams is set to be Syracuse’s first enrolled recruit from central New York since 2018.

Darien Williams remembered watching a video of Syracuse head coach Fran Brown’s introductory press conference in November. Williams recalled Brown saying he grew up on welfare and didn’t need to go anywhere else, giving him the feeling that Brown wanted to stay in central New York long-term.
The part-wide receiver, part-defensive back kept returning to the video. Shortly after he became Syracuse’s first regional commit of the class of 2025 in mid-March, he watched the press conference again. Williams was addicted to the message Brown sent recruits.
“He’s very involved in the community, trying to get out and help as much as possible and it’s definitely nice to see,” Williams said.
Williams, a three-star recruit from nearby Christian Brothers Academy, is the No. 2 Class of 2025 recruit in New York per 247Sports’ Composite Ranking. Because of Brown’s clear effort to recruit players from the Syracuse region, Williams was convinced to commit to Syracuse. Williams could be the Orange’s first enrolled recruit from central New York since 2018.
Bruce Williams, a Syracuse wide receiver from 2005-08, is the wide receivers coach and offensive coordinator at CBA. He said SU always placed some form of emphasis on recruiting locally and mentioned how former head coaches like Dick MacPherson, Paul Pasqualoni and his head coach Greg Robinson recruited players from the area. The previous coaching staff didn’t do that.
“Up until the last regime, everybody from the coaching staff that at least I’ve known has always recruited locally,” Bruce said. “Fran Brown, I think has done a good job in a matter of months, showing that effort that he will keep local kids here.”
The process for Williams started when he moved from Atlanta to Syracuse as a 4-year-old. It was easy for Williams to become a fan of the Orange with them playing close by. As he started playing football in fifth grade, first as a quarterback, Williams always watched SU.
When Williams played at the modified level in seventh and eighth grade, Bruce told him he was playing the wrong position. The coach said Williams should switch to wide receiver, although he still wanted to be a signal caller.
But in ninth grade, there were already four other quarterbacks on the Brothers’ roster. Williams approached Bruce and said he wanted to make the position change.
Bruce said the shift was vital for Williams to garner attention from major programs since some of his older teammates played multiple positions and eventually committed to colleges like UAlbany and Central Connecticut.
“By being able to do multiple things, you become valuable,” Bruce said. “But it also teaches a kid how to be selfless, how to understand that he may not always be the guy and how he can still impact the game not with the ball in his hand.”
Williams excelled quickly after his shift to wide receiver. In 2023, Williams led the Brothers with 863 yards and 11 touchdowns as part of the team’s run to the Class AA state championship. Williams tallied three games with at least 100 receiving yards and four with two touchdowns or more.
In the state championship game against Carmel at the JMA Wireless Dome, Williams displayed his speed and catching ability. In the first quarter, he ran a deep post route and snagged a wobbly pass at midfield. Williams created separation at the block “S” logo and scored uncontested for 78 yards.
Later in the quarter, Williams took a slant route the distance for a 65-yard score. Then to seal the championship, he scored a 48-yard touchdown in the third quarter.
Brown took note of Williams’ performance despite the game taking place less than a week after becoming Syracuse’s new head coach. Brown’s decision to attend the state championships was just one of the moments that renewed interest in the program even before his introductory press conference.
Around the same time at Christian Brothers, Williams and his friends talked about how Brown changed everything regarding Syracuse football. As fans of the Orange, they found the hiring to be shocking in a way.
“He would bring in a lot of great coaches by his side,” Williams said. “…It was just definitely gonna be a whole lot different.”
Williams received other offers from Penn State, Boston College, Colorado and UMass, but chose Syracuse. After announcing his commitment, Williams showed up to view spring ball practices with other potential recruits.
At the Ensley Athletic Center, Williams noticed the coaches’ involvement with the players and how intense players practiced. To him, it was an immediate change for the program he grew up watching.
While Brown and his staff brought in plenty of recruits from out of town, high schools from around the area have received invites to see the Orange practice during spring ball. Brown has not been shy; he calls central New York his backyard and doesn’t want the best players in that yard to leave.
“(With) the best football players in my backyard, I’m gonna watch them play,” Brown said. “And then if they go to college, why wouldn’t they play in the crib? … Someone just ran a 10.6 ( seconds in track) the other day in our backyard. Why would I let him leave the yard?”

Syracuse football will host Colorado State transfer wide receiver Justus Ross-Simmons this weekend as it closes spring ball, according to a report by ESPN’s Pete Thamel.
Thamel cited Ross-Simmons’ agent, Josh Katz of Catamount Sports.
Ross-Simmons spent two seasons at Colorado State and appeared in 24 games as its No. 2 wide receiver. He had 71 total receptions, nearly doubling his catches from his freshman (26) to sophomore year (45), and amassed 1,148 receiving yards and six touchdowns.
Ross-Simmons has two seasons of eligibility remaining.
Colorado State coach Jay Norvell began his remarks to reporters Saturday following his team’s scrimmage by addressing Ross-Simmons’ absence.
“In this era of NIL, who knows what’s behind all this stuff, but he will no longer be part of our team moving forward,” Norvell said.
A native of Rochester, New York, Ross-Simmons (6-foot-3, 205 pounds) played for East High School before transferring to Inglewood High School in California.
He was a three-star out of high school in the Class of 2021 and had offers from Nevada State and Colorado State, ultimately choosing the latter after a brief commitment to the former.

Syracuse Football: National team rankings in 2024, 2025 & 2026 classes are remarkable (itlh; Adler)
In an article on Tuesday from national analyst Adam Friedman, he wrote that Syracuse football "is recruiting at an all-time high for the program."
That says it all, my friends.
Former Georgia defensive backs coach Fran Brown took over the helm of the Orange program in early December of last year. Since that time, he's assembled a top-notch staff while producing a ton of strong recruiting wins to date across the team's 2024, 2025 and 2026 classes.
Naturally, recruiting buzz is one thing, but producing on the field in actual games is another. Still, the air of excitement in Central New York over the direction of the 'Cuse is tremendous, and the team is garnering a lot of national attention for its successes on the recruiting trail.
It seems like every day or two, Syracuse football coaches are picking up new commitments across various cycles. The Orange even has two four-star verbal pledges in the 2026 class, and those prospects are sophomores in high school. Sophomores.
The new 'Cuse staff first kicked things off by doing a wonderful job, in a short period of time, with the squad's 2024 cycle, and that class includes several four-star prospects among both high school seniors and college transfers.
More recently, the Orange has gotten into an exquisite grove with its 2025 cycle, securing a flurry of verbal pledges since mid-March. What's more, numerous highly ranked targets in this class are scheduled to visit the Hill in the coming weeks and months, so there's no sign of slowing down in the 2025 cycle, at least to me.
Then, as I mentioned, the 'Cuse has two verbal commitments in its 2026 class. One came at the end of March, and the second arrived earlier this week. Both of these high school sophomores are in the top 80 around the country in their cycle, per On3.
Granted, these sorts of recruiting rankings will ebb and flow. In fact, they could have slightly changed between the time I wrote this story on Tuesday evening and when the article appeared on the Inside The Loud House Web site on Wednesday morning.

As spring football starts to wrap up at Syracuse, there’s been one noticeable area of improvement in the offseason: strength and conditioning.
Players are looking bigger and faster, showing that their hard work in the offseason has paid off.

Coming from the University of Georgia, Jackson Meeks knew what hard work is. But he was surprised to find out the work is even tougher at Syracuse.
“When I came up here, I had the thoughts that, 'OK, it's not going to be Georgia, it's not going to be that hard,' " Meeks said. "But I got smacked in the face. First workout, I was breathing hard. I was sweating, I'm like hanging like, 'OK, I see how we come.' We really trying to hold a standard and get better.”
Led by Chad Smith, the strength and conditioning staff is getting creative, mixing high-intensity workouts with Olympic and power lifting. With safety in mind and testing the workouts beforehand, they’re pushing the players to their limits.
“Can you take any physical, mental or emotional pain and use it as a powerful tool to overcome your breaking point?" Smith said of the approach to offseason workouts. "So we had to take them to that point. And a lot of guys are scared to do that. A lot of coaches are afraid to train their players, but we can't do that because you can't find out who somebody is until you put them in a hard situation.”
It’s been met with open arms. Players have transformed their bodies with the goal of dominating other teams this fall.
“We all just walk different now," defensive back Alijah Clark said. "Everybody looks a little taller, a little broader, walking with their chest out. It's pretty much builds a lot of confidence."

Syracuse football: who and what we’re watching for on Saturday night (TNIAAM; Staff)
The Syracuse Orange will conclude their 2024 spring practice with the spring game on Saturday night at 7:00 in the JMA Dome (streaming on ACCNX).
While we shouldn’t expect a lot of secrets to be shared on Saturday, there is still reason to check out Fran Brown’s squad. Here’s who/what we’ll be watching for:
Kevin: Backfield back-ups
We know Kyle McCord and LeQuint Allen are locked in to starting roles so this week gives us an opportunity to see the growth of returning players and the skill of those January arrivals. At quarterback, we’ll be watching Carlos Del-Rio Wilson and Braden Davis while Juwaun Price, Jaden Hart and Yasin Willis get an opportunity to show what they can do at running back.
Mike: 4-2-5 in the 3-1-5
There have been brief glances of Elijah Robinson’s new defensive scheme in open practices, but with a lot of moving pieces on that side, I’d like to see how the unit performs under added pressure. They going to be hitting and tackling for real on Saturday, and the addition of Clarence Lewis shows that some jobs still aren’t safe. Time to make a lasting impression before summer.
Steve: What do you think? Offensive line...
Have to stay on brand, but damn there’s some promise and question marks all throughout this unit. We’ve seen a few position shifts, some transfers making a name for themselves, and some guys get healthy. It looks like Mark Petry has been moved down to guard, incoming transfer D’Metrius Weatherspoon has the right tackle spot at present, and David Wohlabaugh continues to work back from injury, but we’ll need to see how they hold up against what’s looking to be a reworked defensive front that can give them fits.
Dom: Some highlight-worthy McCord throws
It’s a straightforward answer, but we’ve seen the quick clips on X over some of McCord’s throws in practice. There’s legitimate excitement considering Syracuse boasts multiple legitimate weapons on offense, but Saturday presents Syracuse fans an opportunity to see the former Ohio State quarterback truly in action for the first time. Considering the general excitement around the program, I’m expecting something of a quality atmosphere in the Dome and we’re keeping our fingers crossed for a McCord highlight or two.

New from our favorite corporate overlords is the iDART, the upgraded version of DART. By now, most online Syracuse football fans are familiar with Fran Brown’s DART mantra (Detailed, Accountable, Relentless, Tough). I’d like to add one more mantra to DART that has been repeated throughout our conversations with players and coaches. That mantra is Intensity. From what we can infer, we might witness a more intense spring game than what we’re used to seeing in the Dome. The intensity and effort levels that we see in the spring game could be a statement of intent on how Syracuse wants to shake up the ACC and the college football landscape.

Four-star defensive end visiting Syracuse football after de-committing from Notre Dame (PS; $; Carlson)
Four-star defensive end prospect CJ May is visiting the Syracuse football program on Wednesday and Thursday, he said on social media.
May de-committed from Notre Dame in February, five months after committing to the Fighting Irish.
May is ranked as a four-star prospect in the Class of 2025 in the 247 Sports Composite rankings and the No. 296 recruit in the country.
Among the four major recruiting websites 247 Sports ranks May the highest, ranking him as the No. 138 prospect in the country in its individual rankings.
According to his social media posts, May has also visited Auburn, Alabama, Louisville, Mississippi, Mississippi State and Vanderbilt over the past month.
May plays high school football for Highland Home in Highland, Alabama. His team went 12-2 last year, advancing to the semifinals of Alabama’s state playoffs.
He told On3.com that he de-committed from Notre Dame after considering how far it was from his home. In that article from two weeks ago, May said he hoped to take his time with his recruitment and take a number of visits.

Syracuse Football: Commitments by 4-star, 3-star prospects to 'Cuse keep piling up (PS; Adler)
Is it getting to the point where we should "expect" a prospect to commit to Syracuse football every day?
I, of course, say this in jest. But all kidding aside, the Orange recruiting train does continue to power along under head coach Fran Brown and his staff.
For example, just in the past few days, the 'Cuse has secured several pledges across multiple recruiting cycles.
Naturally, all of these recruiting wins and recruiting buzz won't mean much unless the Orange wins games in the 2024 season and beyond, but we won't know how Brown and his players will fare on the field for several months.
In the meantime, to say that Brown and his top-flight assistants are crushing things on the recruiting trail is a massive understatement.
Let's review a few of the recent commitments to Syracuse football.
On Tuesday morning, Notre Dame senior cornerback Clarence Lewis said via his X page that he would transfer to the 'Cuse for his final season of collegiate football. The 6-foot, 200-pound Lewis hails from Edison, N.J., and multiple Syracuse football coaches also come from the Garden State.

BREAKING: Utah lands Syracuse WR Transfer Damien Alford (SI; Borba)
Following Utah's spring game, head coach Kyle Whittingham revealed that he wanted to add a couple of more wide receivers from the transfer portal.
It was evident that he has a star in USC transfer Dorian Singer, and Money Parks also flashed during the game. However, outside of those two none of the other receivers were able to step up during the final practice of spring. With the spring transfer portal opening earlier this week, the Utes were able to make a quick splash on Wednesday, landing a commitment from Syracuse transfer Damien Alford.
The Montreal native took to the app formerly known as Twitter on Wednesday to announce his commitment.

SMU football improves in the transfer portal ahead of ACC move (smudailycampus.com; Welch)
Since the transfer portal opened this offseason, SMU’s roster has added several star-studded recruits from schools such as the University of Oklahoma, the University of Miami, and the University of Oregon.
The transfer portal was introduced by the NCAA in 2018 as a way for student-athletes to streamline transferring to different athletic programs. Athletes are required to enter the portal within particular windows in time. While in the portal, they can commit to the program of their choosing, and become eligible for the following season.
“It’s important to give college athletes the opportunity to transfer and make it easier on them to find new opportunities if they felt like they made the wrong decision,” SMU Applied Physiology and Sport Management Adjunct Professor Kenneth Troupe said.
“But what I don’t like is that in football’s case, there seems to be a lot of kids making impulsive decisions just to try to search out playing time and not necessarily the best opportunity for their growth in their career long term. Teams find themselves now in a position where they have to be an expert in a new free agency world that they didn’t live in before and as you can see some schools are doing well some schools are not.”
Reasons for entering the transfer portal can vary. SMU has 11 outgoing players in the transfer portal. Despite this, 247 Sports ranks SMU’s transfer portal class seventh in the Atlantic Coast Conference, scoring higher than schools like Georgia Tech and Virginia Tech. The Mustangs improved in crucial positions such as the defensive line and wide receiver.
Now, SMU’s top recruit is Savion Byrd, a four-star offensive tackle from The University of Oklahoma.

2024 Boston College Spring Football Game (youtube; video; ACC DN)
Boston College concluded spring practices with its annual Jay McGillis Memorial Spring Game at Alumni Stadium. The game pitted the offense against the defense with teams not only getting points for touchdowns but also points being given out for things like first downs, takeaways, sacks, and tackles for loss. With this format, the BC offense was victorious, 96-62. For the offensive team, returning quarterback Thomas Castellanos had 127 passing yards, 30 rushing yards, and four total touchdowns. The player with the most eye-opening performance was FIU transfer quarterback Grayson James who completed 21 of 29 passes for 228 yards and two touchdowns. The defense at times looked dominant, recording nine sacks and 14 tackles for loss in the game. They also had nine pass breakups and three interceptions. At halftime, redshirt junior defensive back Bugg Jones received the Jay McGillis Memorial Scholarship. 2024 NC State Spring Football Game (youtube; video; ACC DN)
The NC State Wolfpack held their annual "Red & White Game" on Saturday, April 6th, 2024. The Red got the best of the matchup winning 51-7. New transfer quarterback Grayson McCall (Coastal Carolina) threw for 205 yards. Fellow QBs Lex Thomas and CJ Bailey combined for 492 yards. Transfer running backs Jaylen Smothers (Oklahoma) and Jordan Waters (Duke) combined for 144 yards on the ground and a score. Receivers Noah Rogers (Ohio State) and Wesley Grimes (Wake Forest) also flashed, with Rogers racking up 133 yards, and Grimes making plays including a 91-yard score. Boston College's Thomas Castellanos Still The Ultimate Dual Threat (youtube; video; ACC DN)
At Boston College's 2024 Spring Football Game, the Eagles' returning quarterback Thomas Castellanos showed that he is still the ultimate dual-threat quarterback. Castellanos was credited with 127 passing yards and two passing touchdowns, and also 30 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns in the game. Virginia Tech junior defensive end Keyshawn Burgos put on a show at the 2024 Virginia Tech annual spring game. Despite playing in a format where you can't actually hit the quarterback, Burgos finished the game with 3 sacks, a fumble recovery and a tipped pass that led to an interception. In today’s Fact or Fiction, I look at three big recent topics in college football and decide whether the statement is indeed FACT or if it’s FICTION.
1. QB Julian Sayin is ready to take the starting role at Ohio State.
Farrell’s take: FICTION
Sayin led the Buckeyes in passing yards in their spring game, but he also missed some wide-open receivers, and one of those mistakes was a pick-six. He still needs to learn to take what’s in front of him and not force the ball as he did when he was undercut for the pick, as a couple of other check-down options were there. He has a ton of upside, but Will Howard's steady play will be relied on early.2. Xavier Restrepo will lead the ACC in catches.

He had 85 catches last season and didn’t have consistent QB play, and with Cam Ward on board and likely targeting him as his clear No. 1 option, he should have a monster season. More than 100 catches is easily within reach, as he looks even better than last season.3. Domani Jackson becomes the next great Alabama DB.

Nick Saban isn’t there anymore, and the defense will struggle at times because of it, but Jackson has the talent to be the next first-rounder. John D’Amore, a seasoned Central New York chef, left the fine-dining world to open a new pasta company called Nothin’ but Noods.
D’Amore sources all his pasta from Jon Stadt, the owner of Flour City Pasta, a mainstay at the Syracuse Regional Market on Saturdays.
“It’s the best pasta there is,” said D’Amore. “I took Jon’s beautiful pasta, took my beautiful sauces I’ve learned over the years, and combined them.”
He launched the company this year as a ghost kitchen and food truck at 2721 Brewerton Rd., offering a build-your-own pasta menu with a variety of sauces and toppings.
First, you choose your noodles (pasta types include lemon basil fettucini, garlic chive papperdelle or squid ink linguine on Saturdays). Then, pick a sauce (spicy vodka, creamy pesto, alfredo, fra diavolo, marinara, puttanesca or garlic and oil). Top it all with brown butter mushrooms, garlic broccoli, or meatballs made with D’Amore’s family recipe.
D’Amore worked in the Central New York food industry for 21 years, running kitchens at The York, Tailwater Lodge, Uriah’s, Lakeshore Yacht & Country Club and the former Genesee Grande Hotel. He worked seven years at Strada Mia and left that job last May.
But his love for food never wavered. He speaks proudly about the culinary influences of his Sicilian family. Vibrant tattoos of garlic, lemon, jalapeño, mushrooms and asparagus cover his arms.
“It wasn’t that I was losing my passion for cooking,” D’Amore said. “I was losing my passion of doing it for someone else that didn’t care about food. They cared about the money. That’s what really hurt me the most.”
Now, his favorite part about the new gig slingin’ noods is interacting with customers — something he rarely could do in previous jobs.
“Being trapped in a kitchen, you don’t see that,” he said. “You don’t get the thank yous. But here, I get direct contact with my customers. And that’s what I was missing for a while.”

The federal government has agreed to provide Micron Technology a $6.1 billion grant to build a massive complex of computer chip plants in Syracuse’s northern suburbs, U.S. Sen. Charles Schumer and a senior Biden administration official told syracuse.com | The Post-Standard.
Some of the federal money would also support a chips plant expansion at Micron’s headquarters in Boise, Idaho, as part of the preliminary, non-binding deal with the U.S. Department of Commerce, Schumer said Wednesday night.
President Joe Biden plans to announce the agreement next week, the senior administration official told syracuse.com.
The deal marks the most important milestone for Micron since it agreed in October 2022 to invest up to $100 billion to build a mega-complex of four chip manufacturing plants in the town of Clay. It would be the largest single private investment in New York history.
“It’s historic news, a once in a generation investment,” Schumer said of the federal grant. “It’s one of the largest single direct federal investments ever in New York history. There should be a smile on everyone’s face in Central New York.”
