Welcome to National Cotton Candy Day!

Five Food Finds about Cotton Candy
  • Cotton candy was originally called fairy floss.
  • Cotton candy contains only one ingredient: sugar.
  • The process by which cotton candy is made has been around for over 100 years so chances are you could ask your grandparents about their first encounter with cotton candy and they’ll tell you at great length how much it cost and how neat it was back in the day.
  • It was forgotten for a while several decades ago, but cotton candy became an instant hit when suddenly it was mass produced and became readily accessible to everyone – not just the ones going to a fair or circus.
  • Cotton candy doesn’t contain all that much sugar – merely as much sugar as one would get drinking a can of an average soft drink.

Highly Rated 2017 MA RB Kevin Mensah Puts SU in His Top Six (thjuice; Cheng)

Happy Friday to all of our readers! Let’s get started on a positive note.

At their request, this network is being blocked from this site.’s Mike McAllister reports that 2017 running back Kevin Mensah has put the Orange in his top six. Other schools in consideration include BC, Florida, Arizona State, UMass and Florida State. Mensah is a 5’9″, 185 pound running back from Worchester, Mass.

But on the same day, Syracuse lost out on two targets. Former Syracuse star Durell Eskridge’scousin is heading to Kentucky. Jermaine Eskridge had picked up an offer from Syracuse in May, and many other high majors jumped in, as well. Eskridge selected the Wildcats over Ohio State, Florida State, Michigan and USC, among others. The 2018 WR is ranked the No. 2 wide receiver in his class.

Former Peach State safety target Jarett Cole gave a verbal to Georgia Tech on Thursday afternoon, reports the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Syracuse had already been out of the running for him when he made his final cut, and he was down to the Yellow Jackets and Kansas State. “It’s pretty close to home, and my family gets to see me play. And they play big-time football there,”Cole said.

1860s New York Baseball Card Fetches $179K at Auction (PS; AP)

A circa 1860s Brooklyn Atlantics team baseball card that's been in the same family for over 150 years has fetched over $179,000 at auction.

The pre-Civil War baseball card was owned by Florence Sasso of Great Barrington, Massachusetts. It shows her great-great-uncle Archibald McMahon, an outfielder for the squad, pictured with eight of his teammates in bib-style shirts and two gentlemen in suits.

Auction organizers say it was purchased by an anonymous collector from the West Coast. It had a presale estimate of $50,000.

The Atlantics were a founding member of the National Association of Base Ball Players — the sport's first organized league that held the championship from 1859 through 1861.

The sale was among the highlights of a sports memorabilia auction held Thursday by Heritage Auctions in Chicago.
