It's Banana Lovers Day! Today we celebrate one of the most popular fruits in the world. Did you know that the average person eats about 33 pounds of bananas a year? That's approximately 100 individual bananas per person!
Bananas are high in fiber and potassium. These properties can help prevent calcium loss, ulcers, high blood pressure, and certain kinds of cancer. Although bananas are often pictured as growing on trees, the banana “tree” is actually an herb. The banana is the fruit of this herb.

Get to Know Your Orange Man #34, RB Jacob Hill (TNIAAM; Szuba)

High School: Detroit County Day
2014 Stats: In his senior year of high school, Hill ran for 700 yards and scored 16 touchdowns. Hill was a captain on his team and earned all-state honors.
2015 Projections: Hill is a walk-on but there is a chance he could see the field in a return situation with his elite speed. He'll have the opportunity to learn behind running backs George Morris II and Devante McFarlane, who will split carries this season.

Meet the 2015 Syracuse Football Team: Giant Cordy (thejuice; Cheng)
There has been plenty of turnover in the Syracuse defense in the offseason, and it is perhaps most pronounced in the safeties.
The three players who received the majority of time at the position (Durell Eskridge, Darius Kelly and Ritchy Desir) are gone, leaving a group of talented—but unproven—players on their wake.
One of the young safeties who has shown promise is sophomore Antwan Cordy, who has drawn rave reviews in practice from Syracuse head coach Scott Shafer.
“I was […] pleased with Antwan,” Shafer said at Syracuse media day earlier in the month, “I’ve always enjoyed coaching kids from down that way (Florida), especially a lot of secondary players, for whatever reason.”
Cordy was recruited to Syracuse as a cornerback and played 11 games there in his freshman year. His lone start came against Boston College, replacing an injured Julian Whigham. He recorded two tackles in that game.
But Shafer decided to move Cordy over to safety after the season was over, and the results have been good so far.
“With Antwan, we said, ‘We’d like to give you a shot at one of these safeties. I know you can play corner, but, let’s see if you can play safety,'” Shafer said. “And it was natural for him.

Why the Orange Will Finish 5-7 (TNIAAM; Szuba)
Okay, so maybe 5-7 isn't exactly what everyone was hoping for. 5-7 puts Syracuse at a losing season without being eligible to play in a bowl game. But you don't right the ship in one season, and 5-7 would be an improvement from a year ago. Let's get things started:
Rhode Island: This should be a shoe-in. Syracuse opens the season at home against an opponent coming off a 1-11 season. The Orange will march to an easy victory. W (1-0, 0-0)
Wake Forest: Things get a bit more difficult in the second week, but not much changes from a season ago as the Syracuse defense settles in and handles a poor offensive team. Syracuse beats Wake for the second year in a row with senior QB Terrel Hunt back at starter and Syracuse cruises. W (2-0, 1-0)
Central Michigan: Syracuse faces another opponent for the second year in a row in back-to-back games. Although the game is a bit closer than last year, the Orange are barely tested. Syracuse is firing on all cylinders at this point, however the brunt of this schedule still remains. W (3-0, 1-0)
LSU: Maybe there's a chance?
Nope, no shot at all. Do we really need to delve into this one? Next. L (3-1, 1-0)
South Florida: Syracuse looks to rebound after a brutal loss to one of the nation's best teams and heads on the road for the first time of the season. South Florida puts up a great fight in a game that comes down to the wire with Syracuse ultimately prevailing. W (4-1, 1-0)

A New Crop of Orange Has Arrived on the SU Campus (PS; Rivoli)
The Syracuse University campus was a busy place as it was moving in day for the incoming freshmen.
Cars packed with anxious parents, nervous first year students and all the essential for collegiate living lined up single file in front of the dormitories.
Assisted by an army of volunteer upperclassmen, armed with large carts on wheels, the new students were smoothly ushered into their rooms.
The newly minted college sons and daughters, and their parents, made beds, hung clothing and stored personal items while meeting their new bunk mates.
A new crop of Orange has arrived.
