Welcome to King Tut Day!

King Tut Day celebrates the date of the discovery of King Tutankhamen's Tomb.

Over 3,000 years ago, King Tutankhamen became the King of Egypt at the age of 9. He died at the age of 19. He is commonly called "King Tut". The tomb of Egypt's "child king" was discovered on November 4, 1922. The tomb was discovered nearly intact in Egypt's Valley of Kings.

King Tut's rule lasted a short nine years, from 1333 B.C. to 1324 B.C. The cause of his death is uncertain. Murder and an innocent accident are the two main theories.

How to celebrate this special day: Spend a little time with your nose in the Egyptian history books. Learn more about King Tut, along with the culture and times of Ancient Egypt.

Happy King Tut Day!!!

McGee and Scott Preview the Syracuse Game (gocards.com; McGee and Scott)

It's been a long road back to 4-4 for the University of Louisville football team. After last Friday's 20-19 win over Wake Forest, the Cardinals have won four of their last five games after an 0-3 start.

Louisville evened its overall record and 3-2 in the league, and the Cardinals are excited about returning home for the next two weeks beginning this Saturday against Syracuse.

"It was an exciting conference game, and we look forward to another exciting conference game," sophomore running back L.J. Scott said after Tuesday's practice. "The crowd will be juiced up and we look forward to be at home."

The Cardinals are averaging 18.5 points per game over the last two wins, but Scott feels it's not as bad as everyone perceives it to be heading into the final four games of the season. The Cards have scored 24 against Auburn and 31 versus an undefeated Houston team, so they know they can put up points.

"It's definitely not as bad as it seems," Scott said. "The thing with us is consistency. We put numbers up against good teams so we know we can do it."
Scott said head coach Bobby Petrino told the team after the game that it doesn't matter if the Cardinals win by 20 or one. A win is a win.

"Coach Petrino said a one-point win is a win," Scott said. "We do everything within our power to win by 60 points and something we take pride in that, but we are glad we came out with a win. We are just coming out and grinding. When we turn on the film, we see a lot of good things."

Offensive coordinator Garrick McGee on the Syracuse defense
The Cardinals will face a very young Syracuse defense with eight freshmen or sophomores expected to start, but offensive coordinator Garrick McGee knows the Cardinals are expected to be challenged.

"If you watch their film and look at their personnel, they have a real fast defense. They are young in the secondary so they have missed some tackles that has caused some big plays. They have some good pass rushers off the edge. We have a lot of respect for Zaire Franklin their middle linebacker. He sets the defense and gets them lined up."

Syracuse on 5 Game Losing Streak Heading to Louisville (kentucky.com; Kekis)

If Syracuse coach Scott Shafer didn't bother to look at the Atlantic Coast Conference honorees this week, it's understandable.

Syracuse (3-5, 1-3 ACC) lost its fifth straight game on Saturday, 45-21 on the road at No. 17 Florida State, and two Seminoles were honored — wideout Travis Rudolph and freshman tailback Jacques Patrick.

Rudolph had the top receiving performance in the ACC this season, catching five passes for 191 yards and three touchdowns, an astounding average of 38.2 yards per catch. Patrick was rookie of the week, rushing for 162 yards and three touchdowns on 24 carries and catching six passes for 62 yards in his first career start.

And the Seminoles' top two playmakers — tailback Dalvin Cook and quarterback Everett Golson — didn't even play. Patrick proved an able substitute and so did Sean Maguire, who completed his first nine passes and had 302 yards passing at halftime in his second career start.

Just another week of learning for the Orange, who play at Louisville (4-4, 3-2 ACC) on Saturday. With one freshman, three redshirt freshmen, and two sophomores listed on the depth chart in the secondary, the Syracuse defense is allowing 8.19 yards per pass.

Zaire Franklin Well Aware of the Stakes for SU Football This Saturday (cnycentral.com; Tamurian)

Syracuse Football needs to win three out of its final four games to qualify for a bowl game.

One of those contests includes hosting #1 Clemson next week.

So while it's possible that SU could pull the monumental upset, a better bet lies in Syracuse topping Louisville, NC State, and Boston College starting with Louisville on Saturday.

Rest assured, when I asked captain Zaire Franklin, he was well aware of the stakes.

"The way the rest of the schedule plays out, we know this is a crucial game for our season" Franklin said.

There's obviously the underlying worry about the future of the coaching staff. A couple of wins could wipe those fears away very quickly.

Not to mention, ending a five-game losing streak will always change the outside perception of the team.

"We've lost five games in a row. If for any other reason, just to get back on the winning track" Franklin said on that note.

"Losing is a habit, just like winning is. So we just have to get out of this rut, so it would definitely feel good to get a win. With the rest of our schedule, you don't want to be in a position where you have to win out. It always feels a little bit better, gives you a little more comfort when you know you have at least one game to play with. I mean, you want to win every game but you don't want to be in that do or die situation so we definitely need to win this game" Franklin added.

Syracuse's game with Louisville is set for a 12:30 kickoff, the only place to watch it on TV is on NBC-3. We are Central New York's home for the ACC.

Santa Claus Coming to Town This Week (PS; Baker)

In Syracuse this week, it's still T-shirt weather. Most Halloween pumpkins haven't yet begun to rot. Some resilient leaves still cling to their branches.

Yes, it's still very much fall in Syracuse. So when he arrives here later this week, Santa Claus might feel a bit out of place.

That's right, the jolliest man at the North Pole will make his first appearance in Central New York this week, with exactly seven weeks until Christmas. Hopefully he brought his sunscreen.

Santa Claus will arrive at Destiny USA on Friday, Nov. 6 at 6 p.m. He will hand out candy canes and lead a parade from the carousel in the food court to the canyon area.

He will be available to take photos with children in the Canyon every day from his arrival Friday until Thursday, Dec. 24 (see a complete schedule below).

Claus' arrival isn't the first harbinger of the Christmas season in Central New York. Radio stations in the Finger Lakes have already begun piping holiday music on the airwaves. At least one Syracuse station will begin next week.

In downtown Syracuse, crews today began constructing the ice skating rink at Clinton Square. Many drug stores and supermarkets are already selling Christmas decorations.

And, two weeks ago, it snowed.

Welcome to town, Santa.
